Shelby Burley Burson
Shelby Burley Burson, 91, of Abilene, died Thursday at a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Dr. Don Greenway and the Rev. Rickie Moore officiating. Burial will be in Midway Cemetery in Hodges.
Mr. Burson was born in Cass County. He attended school in both Cass County and Dallas. He moved to Abilene in 1948. He worked as a custodian for the Abilene Independent School District, the Petroleum Building, the Ramada Inn, the Starlight Inn, and Abilene Christian College. He was the widower of Vader Leona Cole, whom he married in Dallas in 1931. He was a member of North Side Baptist Church and had been a foster grandparent at Abilene State School.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. J.D. "Birdie" Bradley of Onalaska and Mrs. Emmitt "Bea" Moore of Hawley; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 3335 South 8th Street.

Ellen (Cook) Hicks
CLYDE - Ellen (Cook) Hicks, 89, a lifelong resident of the Clyde area, died Friday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Clyde with Dr. Jerry Joplin and the Rev. Ron Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Clyde Cemetery, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hicks was born in Callahan County and attended school at Eagle Cove, Pleasant View School, and Lone Oak School. She finished her schooling in the Midway Community. She was the widow of Robert Lee Hicks, whom she married in Baird in 1927. She was a member of the Clyde Senior Citizens and the First Baptist Church of Clyde. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include four sons, J.B. Hicks and Billy G. Hicks, both of Ft. Worth, and Harold S. Hicks and Jimmy F. Hicks, both of Clyde; four brothers, Hiram Cook of Clyde, Carl Cook of Garland, Raymond Cook of Friona, and Robert Edward "Corky" Cook of Wichita Falls; and one sister, Edna Barrington of Abilene.

Brenda Norville
COOPER CITY, FLA. - Brenda Norville, 50, formerly of Munday, died February 15, after a long illness.
Mrs. Norville was born in Knox City. She married Buddy V. Norville. She was an International Mission Board communications missionary for churches in the Caribbean. She served as an editor for the (Texas) Baptist Publications and worked in other outreach ministries.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Scott Norville of Ft. Worth and Todd Norville of New York City, N.Y.; her mother, Nora Kennedy of Cisco; and one sister, Elaine Key of Spur.

Willis Edward 'Cowboy' Laney
Willis Edward "Cowboy" Laney, 71, of Abilene, died Friday in Abilene.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South with the Rev. Mike Patterson officiating. Graveside services will be at 5:30 p.m. in Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.
Mr. Laney was born in Seymour and was a veteran of World War II. He moved to Abilene in the 1950's. He was an oilfield truck driver for McAlister Trucking Company before his retirement.
Survivors include one son, Eddie Laney of Midland; two brothers, J.R. Laney of Colleyville and Loyd Laney of Wichita Falls; three sisters, Lois Moore of Wichita Falls, Betty Brigham of Mt. Pleasant, and Dorothy Kozdera of Carlsbad, Calif; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Dan M. Wadzeck
KNOX CITY - Dan M. Wadzeck, 72, of Rochester, died Friday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church of Rochester with the Revs. Dolan Brinson and James Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Knox City.
Mr. Wadzeck was born in Rochester and was a farmer. He married Wynell Lowery in Knox City in 1948. He served on the Rochester School Board, Methodist Church Board, FHA Board and Committee, and the Soil Conservation Board for Haskell County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. He was a member of the Knox City Masonic Lodge and a Sunday School teacher at the Methodist Church in Rochester.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Larry Wadzeck of Rochester; one brother, Troy Wadzeck of Fredricksburg; two sisters, Dalhia Dean Johnson of Centre, Ala. and Hellen Cox of Haskell; and many nieces and nephews.

Calvin Snow
COLEMAN - Calvin Snow, 56, a life-long Coleman resident, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Coleman Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Roberts officiating, directed by Stevens Funeral Home of Coleman.
Mr. Snow was born in Coleman where he attended school. He worked as a roustabout in the oil field and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Dixon of Coleman; two stepdaughters, Betty Lynn of Chippewa Falls, Wisc. and Maggie Wright of Coleman; three stepsons, Bobby Dixon of Coleman, Sam Dixon of Goldthwaite, and Denny Dixon of Valliant, Okla.; two sisters, Dorothy Densman of Coleman and Pat Tomme of Lake Brownwood; ten step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary M. Sharp
BRECKENRIDGE - Mary M. Sharp, 82, a longtime Breckenridge resident, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Melton Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with David Markham and Patrick Muncie officiating. Burial will be in the Breckenridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Sharp was born in Greenville. She was a homemaker and a member of the Jehovah's Witness Church.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Halford of Carbon; one daughter, Kathy Dearing of Abilene; one sister, Frances Couch; nine grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Martha Hafner
COLEMAN - Martha Hafner, 72, of Gouldbusk, died Thursday in a San Angelo hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Walker Funeral Home Chapel with E.V. Ferris Akins officiating. Burial will be in Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Hafner was born in Coleman County. She married James A. "Heavy" Hafner in Voss in 1947. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband of Gouldbusk; one son, Jimmy Hafner of Rockwood; two sisters, Mrs. Roy McCorkle of Coleman and Mrs. Betty Scarborough of Gouldbusk; three brothers, Curtis "Dick" Jamison and Johnny Jamison, both of Voss, and Jimmie "Jinks" Jamison of Leaday; and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Hill Cemetery, c/o Mrs. Betty Scarborough, Rt. 1, Gouldbusk or the American Cancer Society.

Raymond C. Powell
GORMAN - Raymond C. Powell, 76, of Eastland, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Milton Underwood officiating. Burial will be in Murray Cemetery.
Mr. Powell was born in Comanche County. He married Lavelle McCullough in Carbon in 1945. He was a barber, saddlemaker, and worked for Tex-Tan Western Leather Company. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of Eastland; two sons, Royce Powell of Needville and Monty Powell of Bastrop; one brother, Kenneth Powell of Gorman; and four grandchildren.

Mary Louise Christian
EASTLAND - Mary Louise Christian, 72, formerly of Iraan, died Thursday in Richardson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church in Eastland with the Rev. Tim Plant officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Richland Springs Cemetery near San Saba, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland.
Mrs. Christian was born in Ranger and raised near the Colony Community. She graduated from Ranger High School and attended Ranger Junior College. She was the widow of Noel Dabbs, whom she married in Ranger in 1945, and of Ward Christian, whom she married in 1958. Mrs. Christian served as County and District Clerk in Crane and as Justice of the Peace in Iraan for 15 years. She moved to Eastland in 1993. Her community activities included Sunday School teacher in Seminole, church secretary in Crane, and she sang in the choir in Eastland First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Texas Justice of the Peace and Constables Association.
Survivors include two sons, Dwight Dabbs of Eastland and Paul Dabbs of Plano; one daughter, Marilyn Christian of Abilene; one sister, Madelyn Everett of Dewey, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, West Texas Rehabilitation or donor's favorite charity.
