John Clarence Hamilton
SWEETWATER -- John Clarence Hamilton, 97, of Fort Worth and formerly of Sweetwater, died Tuesday in a Fort Worth nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Shep Cemetery with the Rev. Orvel Brantley officiating, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Hamilton was born in Mason County and farmed for 50 years until retiring. He lived in Sweetwater and Shep before moving to Fort Worth in 1986. He was a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church in Sweetwater and was the widower of Iula Mae Jackson Hamilton, whom he married in 1920 in Shep.
Survivors include one daughter, Marvalene Kauffman of Fort Worth; one sister, Mabel Morrow of Nolan; one brother, Buck Hamilton of Lake Sweetwater; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Laura McWilliams Gray Eagan
BROWNWOOD -- Laura McWilliams Gray Eagan, 62, died Tuesday at her home.
The body will be cremated and services will be at a later date. Arrangements are being made by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mrs. Eagan was born in Brady and lived for several years in Irving, where she retired as a computer operator for Darr Equipment. She was the widow of Mike Eagan.
Survivors include one son, Gary Gray of Brownwood; her mother, Mae Wilder of Brownwood; one sister, Debra McWilliams of Brownwood; and one grandchild.

Wyoma Juanita Lane
CLYDE - Wyoma Juanita Lane, 84, of Arlington, formerly of Clyde, died Sunday in an Arlington nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with grandson James Allen Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Clyde Cemetery.
Mrs. Lane was born in Gorman, where she married William Ebbie Lane in 1931. The couple moved to Clyde from Abilene in 1981, where Mr. Lane died in 1985. Mrs. Lane moved to Arlington in 1997. She was a private duty nurse and a member of Clyde Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, James E. Lane of Jasper; two daughters, Martha A. Taylor of Austin and Peggy "Betty" Smith of Arlington; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

C.E. 'Bus' Laster
SNYDER - C. E. "Bus" Laster, 85, died Sunday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. C.J. Smith and retired Baptist minister Dr. Marty Atkins officiating. Burial will be in Dunn Cemetery.
Mr. Laster came to Scurry County at the age of 12 from Eastland County. He was a longtime resident of the Dunn Community. He farmed many years in that area and later moved to San Angelo, where he was employed as a civil service worker at Goodfellow Air Force Base for 11 years before returning to Dunn. He moved to Snyder four years ago. He was a member of the Dunn Masonic Lodge and the American Federal Employee's Union. He was a longtime member of the Dunn Baptist Church before moving to Snyder.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Laster of Dunn; four sons, Jim Laster of Hobbs, N.M., Bill Laster of Big Spring, Ron Laster of Hurst and Dennis Laster of Abilene; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Maria De La Luz 'Lucy' Ocon
Maria De La Luz "Lucy" Ocon, 78, of Tye, died Friday in a local hospital.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory. Mass will be said at 2 p.m. Monday in Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Merkel with the Rev. Tim Guthridge officiating. Burial will be in Tye Cemetery.
Mrs. Ocon was born in Taylor and moved to the Abilene area in 1939. She lived in Tye for many years. She married Faustino Ocon in 1945 in Abilene and was a homemaker. She was a member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Merkel and also was a Cursillista at the church.
Survivors include her husband, of Tye; four sons, Luciano Ocon of Fort Worth, and Benito Ocon, Domingo Ocon and Juan Martin Ocon, all of Abilene; one daughter, Teresa Ocon of Tye; three brothers, Don Cisneros of Phoenix, Ariz., and Steve Cisneros and John Cisneros, both of Abilene; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Campbell Galloway
BRECKENRIDGE -- Evelyn Campbell Galloway, 69, of Abilene and formerly of Breckenridge, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Morehart Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Michael Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Breckenridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Galloway was born in Hereford and graduated from Woodson High School and Abilene Business College. She worked for Petco in Breckenridge and Sayles Co. in Abilene. She obtained a real estate license in the 1960s and moved in 1985 to Carrollton, where she worked for Kelly Services. She returned to Abilene in 1997 and was a member of Wylie Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Laddie Coy Galloway of Abilene and Edward Lee Galloway of Lumberton; one brother, Elon Campbell of Breckenridge; one sister, Montie Hill of Canadian; and six grandchildren.

Iola Barton
SIPE SPRINGS -- Iola Barton, 83, lifelong area resident, died Saturday in a De Leon hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Rising Star with the Rev. Dick Williams officiating. Burial will be in Sipe Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Barton was born in Sipe Springs, where she married Ted Barton in 1932, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Rising Star First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Sipe Springs; five sons, J.E. Barton of Dublin, George Barton of Midland, Louis Barton of Knickerbocker, Howard Barton of Archer City and Mark Barton of Vernon; one daughter, Mary Ann Struthwolf of Lake Jackson; three sisters, Oma Myers and Eula Morris, both of Abilene, and Katie Ruth Thorp of De Leon; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Truman Robertson
BRECKENRIDGE -- Truman E. Robertson, 91, area educator for 40 years, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Breckenridge First United Methodist Church with Johnny Miller officiating. Burial will be in Eastland Cemetery, directed by Melton Funeral Home.
Mr. Robertson was born in Bear Springs in Eastland County and attended Tarleton College. He earned a master's degree from Hardin-Simmons University. He began working as a school teacher and administrator in 1930 in Carbon. He married Euna Parker in 1934 in Olney and moved to Breckenridge in 1952. He was principal at South Elementary until retiring in 1970. He then was a farmer and rancher. He and his wife received a Century Family Land Heritage Award in 1998 for their farm in Eastland County. He was a life member of Texas and Stephens County Retired Teachers associations and also was a member of the local and regional pecan growers associations. He served on the administrative board of the Methodist church in Carbon and Breckenridge for 50 years and was, at the time of his death, a member of Breckenridge First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Breckenridge; one daughter, Bettye Joann Robertson Dakin of Waco; one son, Ed Robertson of LaQuinta, Calif.; one sister, Oleta Leamon of Abilene; one brother, B.W. Robertson of Eastland; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Martha Corley Berry
STAMFORD -- Martha E. Corley Berry, 74, of Childress and formerly of Stamford, died Friday in a Childress hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Kinney Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Erwin and Bill Austin officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Berry was born in Stamford and moved to Childress in 1976 from Stamford. She was the widow of A.C. "Al" Berry, whom she married in 1942 in Stamford.
Survivors include one daughter, Scarlett Baldwin of Dallas; one son, A.C. "Acie" Berry Jr. of Georgetown; her stepmother, Ovie May Corley of Stamford; two sisters, Ruth Havstad and Mary Cantrell, both of Lubbock; one brother, James Corley of Lubbock; and six grandchildren.

Ludwig Schwertner
ROWENA -- Ludwig F. Schwertner, 85, local civic leader, died Saturday at his home.
Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. today in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the church with the Revs. Benedict Zientek and Stephen Kennelly officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home of Ballinger.
Mr. Schwertner was born in Rowena and farmed in the Rowena area. He also worked as a custom harvester. He was a charter member of the Rowena Volunteer Fire Department and was a former director of the Rowena First National Bank. He was a member of the Rowena Lions Club and Sons of Hermann. He was a trustee for the O.D.H.S. Hall in Rowena for more than 20 years. He served on the board of St. Joseph School and parish council at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of the St. Joseph Society and was the widower of Olivia F. Moeller Schwertner, whom he married in 1935 in Rowena.
Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Schwertner of San Angelo and Maynard Schwertner of Rowena; two daughters, Jane Holtman of Ballinger and Rita Frey of Mason; one brother, Robert Schwertner of Rowena; two sisters, Katherine Werner of Ballinger and Lily Schraer of Lowake; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to St. Joseph Cemetery Association or a favorite charity.
