Elaine Frances Bennett-Bates
Elaine Frances Bennett-Bates, 39, of Dayton, Nev., and formerly of Abilene, died April 2.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. K.R. White officiating. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery, directed by Curtis-Starks Funeral Home, 542 E.N. 7th.
Mrs. Bennett-Bates was born in Abilene and graduated from Hawley High School. She attended Angelo State University. She lived in Austin for many years and worked as a data security analyst for Texas MHMR. She was a member of Black Data Processors Association and ISSC. She moved to Dayton, Nev. from Austin.
Survivors include her husband, Don Carl Bates of Dayton, Nev.; two stepdaughters, Amber Bilbeaux of Austin and Tanya Bates of Fairfield, Calif.; one stepson, James Bates of Citrus Heights, Calif.; her parents, Samuel and Ester Bennett of Hawley; two sisters, Teresa Burkes of Austin and Ethel Williams of Dallas; and many step grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Beulah Moore
Beulah B. Moore, 96, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Crescent Heights Baptist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Gap Cemetery in Taylor County, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Moore was born in Travis County and attended school in Cross Plains and Oplin. She moved to Abilene in 1949 from Cedar Gap. She worked for T.S. Lankford and Co. Clothing Factory for 20 years. She was a member of Ann Baker LLL Class at Crescent Heights Baptist Church and was the widow of Preston W. Moore, whom she married in 1919 in Abilene.
Survivors include three sons, Leonard W. Moore of Weatherford, John Weldon Moore of Houston and Gerald Moore of Sacramento, Calif.; two daughters, Margie Fisher Cabaniss of Worland, Wyo., and Verla Miessner of Cabot, Ark.; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Crescent Heights Baptist Church, 1902 N. Mockingbird, Abilene 79603.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Roy James Smith
Roy James Smith, 79, died Thursday in a Clyde nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Smith was born in Pittsburgh and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He moved to Abilene in 1966 from Lubbock. He worked as a salesman for Sun Electric and was a Catholic.
Survivors include five sons, Frederick E. Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo., James J. Smith of Waco, Walter Frank of St. Mary's, Ga., Roy K. Smith of Abilene and Charles Wayne of Bowling Green, Fla.; one daughter, Jean Kathryn Schrecengost of Gilmer; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

John Hampton
John A. Hampton, 83, lifelong Abilene-area resident, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with the Rev. John Wade officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Hampton was born in Runnels County and married Lavawn Jones in 1939 in Potosi. He served with the U.S. Navy. He worked as a construction superintendent for Lone Star Gas for 40 years and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one daughter, Ronda Kay Casey of Lubbock; one sister, Mary Underwood of Lake Leon; three grandchildren; and one nephew.

Jackson Amby Gray and Jacob Thomas Gray, infant twin sons of Wm. "Amby" Gray and Stacy DeeAnn Gray, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Cedar Gap Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Packwood officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Other survivors include their grandparents, O.T. "Buddy" and Nelda Bryan of Abilene, and Donald A. and Linda Gray of Hobbs, N.M.

Vera Jo Dearing
Vera Jo Dearing, 91, died Thursday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Lunn Funeral Home Chapel in Olney. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Olney, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home of Albany.
Mrs. Dearing was born in Tucumcari, N.M., and worked as a riveter for North American Aircraft in Arlington during World War II. She was a homemaker. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Benjamin C. Young Sr. and George A. Dearing.
Survivors include four sons, Ivory Dearing of Abilene, Benjamin C. Young Jr. of Lubbock, Jay W. Young of Cleburne and John Paul Young of Jacksonville, Texas; three daughters, Retha Young Rodgers of Las Vegas, Nev., Sandi Young Dearing of Abilene and Sleeta Dearing Long of Lewisville; two brothers, John Neal of Lubbock and Perry W. Neal of Carmichael, Calif.; one sister, Willie Searcy of Caddo Mills; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Dale Ford
Kenneth Dale Ford, 53, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike Martin officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Mr. Ford was born in Abilene, where he lived most of his life, and graduated from Cooper High School. He served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a truck driver for National Freight for one year and Merchant's for more than 20 years. He was a Baptist and was the widower of Darla Sue Taylor Ford.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Ford of Midland and Joseph Ford of Abilene; two daughters, Ruby Ann Williams of Abilene and Shelli Guggisberg of Vernon; two brothers, James Pierce of Anson and Gerald Pierce of Houston; two sisters, Dorene Brown of Longview and Mary Seals of Abilene; and five grandchildren.

Joshua Adam 'Bubba' Wilson
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. - Joshua Adam "Bubba" Wilson, 23, formerly of Abilene, died March 30.
Mass was said April 5 in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks, N.D. Burial was in in Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks, directed by Stennes Funeral Home.
Mr. Wilson was born in Grand Forks, N.D., and lived from 1977-88 in Abilene, where he attended College Heights Elementary and Jefferson Junior High School. He then returned to Grand Forks, N.D. He graduated from Red River High School and Northwest Technical College. He worked for AGSCO Co., Comfort Inn and Lumber Mart. While living in Abilene, he was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church at Dyess Air Force Base.
Survivors include his parents, Eileen Taylor and Steve Wilson; one sister, Liz Wilson; his grandparents, George and Ileta Marcum, and Bernice Gillies, all of Abilene; his great-grandmother, Norma Gillies of Brownsville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Thomas Leon Valentine
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Thomas Leon Valentine, 59, formerly of Abilene, died Tuesday in Granada Hills, Calif. after a heart attack.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth, Calif., directed by Crawford Mortuary of Chatsworth.
Mr. Valentine was born in Waveland, Ark., and grew up in Abilene. He graduated from Abilene High School and Abilene Christian University. He worked as a production coordinator for Baxter Healthcare Pharmaceuticals in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He married Julie Gregory in 1976. He was active in Abilene Community Theater and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, of Northridge; one son, Ryan Valentine of Northridge; his stepmother, Maggie Valentine of Lubbock; and two sisters, Madene Walker and Joann Bentley, both of Abilene.

Everett Sugg
AZLE - Everett W. Sugg, 64, formerly of the Big Country, died Wednesday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Brown Trail Gospel Assembly. Burial will be in Azleland Memorial Park, directed by Biggers Funeral Home of Lake Worth.
Mr. Sugg was born in Cunningham, Texas. He lived in Abilene and Cisco before moving to Azle in 1961. He retired as a department manager of Montgomery Ward.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Sugg of Azle; one son, Ronald Sugg of San Antonio; one daughter, Kayla Williams of Azle; three brothers and three sisters; and five grandchildren.
