Velma Iola Gryder
CISCO — Velma Iola Gryder, 87, died Saturday at an Eastland hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel with Ronnie Shackelford officiating, assisted by the Rev. Franklin Stephens. Burial will be in Longbranch Cemetery.
Mrs. Gryder was born near Rising Star and was a homemaker and a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church. She married Lee Roy Gryder in 1928 in Rising Star; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include four daughters, Patsy Phillips of Fort Worth, Peggy Sivers of Cypress, Nancy Dunlap of Northridge, Calif., and Cathy Warren of Conroe; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 3145 McCart Ave., Fort Worth.

LeAnne Bonita Hewitt
CLYDE — LeAnne Bonita Hewitt, 73, died Monday at her home.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Clyde Cemetery with Mike Sadler officiating, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hewitt was born in Turlin, Iowa., and moved to Clyde from Petaluma, Calif., in 1978. She was a homemaker. She married Oliver David Hewitt in 1961 in Reno, Nev.; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, David Harper of Suisun, Calif., and Darrell Harper of Petaluma; three daughters, Aileen Nevitt of Anacortes, Wash., Donna Madlock of Reno and Becky Burkhalter of Clyde; one stepdaughter, Janet Goldberg of Fairfield, Calif.; one sister, Evelyn Hall of Onawa, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

O.J. Smith
BROWNWOOD — O.J. Smith, 79, died Monday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Green and Don Martin officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born in Brown County and graduated from Daniel Baker College with a bachelor’s degree and from Sul Ross State University with a master’s degree. He was a retired teacher, coach and school administrator and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He moved to Brownwood in 1979 and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He married Edna Mae Hilll in 1942 in Nebraska; she preceded him in death. He married Wanda Harris in 1989 in Brownwood.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; two sons, Steve Smith of Austin and Jeffre Smith of Shallowater; five stepchildren, Ron Harris of San Antonio and Debbie Maultsby, Pam Benner, Richard Harris and Cindy Allen, all of Brownwood; one brother, Buford Smith of Brownwood; one sister, Virginia Cox of Austin; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or to the donor’s favorite charity.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. today.

Betty Fee Drumwright
CISCO — Betty Fee Drumright, 82, died Sunday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. D.W. “Dutch” Basil officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Mrs. Drumwright was born in Fort Worth and graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor’s degree. She was director of First National Bank of Cisco and a member of First Presbyterian Church. She married Sterling Drumwright in 1939 in Cisco.
Survivors include one son, Henry Sterling “Chip” Drumwright III of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Lillian Marshall of Dallas; and two grandsons.

Amos Metz
CARMICHAEL, Calif. — Amos B. Metz, 84, died Saturday in Sacramento, Calif.
Memorial services were April 4 at Lind Brothers Mortuary in Carmic.
Mr. Metz grew up in Bangs and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He founded a business in Woodland, Calif., in 1945, selling tires and renting trailers he built himself. He was the widower of Ruth Metz.
Survivors include one son, Joseph Metz; three daughters, Barbara Maxwell, Virginia Hayward and Catherine Metz; two sisters, Christine Guyer and Bernice Jones; and six grandchildren.

Lottie Lee Bradshaw
TUSCOLA — Lottie Lee Bradshaw, 85, of McCamey and formerly of Tuscola, died Sunday at a McCamey retirement center.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bradshaw Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Bigham officiating, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bradshaw was born in Bradshaw and attended Bluff Creek School. She farmed in the Badshaw area until retiring in 1978. She moved to Tuscola in 1986 and was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She married Finas Bradshaw in 1932 in Drasco; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, John Bradshaw of Tuscola; two daughters, Margreat Kraatz of Tuscola and Francis Miller of McCamey; two brothers, Ben Higgins of Anson and Pete Higgins of Bradshaw; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Ennis Taylor ‘Dale’ Spence III
WINTERS — Ennis Taylor “Dale” Spence III, 45, of Blackwell died Sunday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blackwell Untied Methodist Church with the Rev. Allan Lee officiating. Burial will be in Wingate Cemetery, directed by Winters Funeral Home.
Mr. Spence was born in Brownwood and grew up in East Texas. He graduated from Abilene High School and was in the radio advertising business. He recently moved to Blackwell from Houston and was “Spence in the Morning” for radio station 92.5 in Abilene. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Houston. He married Diana Brannon in 1994 in Blackwell.
Survivors include his wife, of Blackwell; one son, Daniel Spence of Beaumont; one daughter, Gretchen Pelton of Rockwall; one sister Cynthia Cervera of Schenectady, N.Y.; his father, Ennis Taylor Spence II of Longview; and one granddaughter.
The family will be at the funeral home at 7 p.m. today.

William Lee ‘Billy’ Shelley III
William Lee “Billy” Shelley III, 16, of Abilene died Monday at a local hospital from injuries received in an accident.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the first Evangelical Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry McNeill officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 North Second.
He was born in Abilene and was a sophomore at Cooper High School where he played football as a freshman. He had played “Pop Warner” football and participated in baseball. He received his “Arrow of Light” from the Boy Scouts and was a member of the First Evangelical Methodist Church.
Survivors include his parents, William Lee and Pamela Shelley Jr. of Abilene; one sister Aleta Elizabeth “Beth” Shelley of Abilene; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Couch of Abilene; paternal grandfather, William Lee Shelley Sr. of Abilene; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack McCoy of Abilene; paternal great-grandfather, A.M. “Friday” Couch of Abilene; maternal great-grandparents, O.B. and Kathy Carpenter of Dallas; maternal great-grandmother, Norma Jean Parkinson of Abilene; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.
A fund has been set up in William “Billy” Shelley’s name at the Dyess Federal Credit Union.

Bobbie Jean Long
Bobbie Jean Long, 68, of Abilene, died Monday at a local hospital
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Norm Steinke officiating. Burial will be in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.
Mrs. Long was born in Brady. She married Robert “Bob” Long in Abilene in 1950. She worked as a secretary for Bouseman, Barnnet and Proctor and later worked for Houston Fire and Casualty (now Cigna). She has lived in Houston, Pensacola, Fla., Oklahoma City, and Irving before retiring as an adjuster and claims representative. She was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church and a member of the Abilene Insurance Women’s Association and Beta Sigma Phi.
Survivors include her husband of Abilene; two sons, Stuart Warren Long of Corpus Christi and Gordon Clay Long of Abilene; one brother, Bill Stewart of Anson; one sister, Dorothy Cotton of Horton; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
