Dr. J.S. 'Steve' King
BRADY - Dr. J.S. "Steve" King, 78, died Friday in a San Angelo hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sheldon Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, directed by Leatherwood Colonial Funeral Home of Brady.
Dr. King was born in Sterling City. He married Faye Stone in Talpa in 1944. He graduated from Tarleton Junior College and received his DVM degree from Texas A&M. He served in the Army Veterinary Corp. He was active in community affairs, serving on the Board of Directors of the Brady Savings and Loan, the Hospital Board, Brady I.S.D. School Board, the District Scout Council, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Brady Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree mason, and a member of the Shrine and Scottish Rite Bodies.
Survivors include his wife of Brady; one son Kim King of Brady; one daughter, Diane Scovell of Dallas; one brother, Loyd King of Coleman; two sisters, Joann Burkett of San Angelo and Rose McLeery of Odessa; and six grandchildren.

Goldia L. Malone
MERKEL - Goldia L. Malone, 95, who was the 1990 Women Pathfinders Agricultural honoree and who was inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center in 1981, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Merkel First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel.
Mrs. Malone was born in Rains County where she began her trick-riding career. She joined the Bob Malone Wild West Show in the early 20's. She married Mr. Malone in 1926. When she was widowed in 1947, she took over the farming and ranching and began working with the 4-H and FFA. She shared her life and her home with many foster children. She received awards from Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, the Future Farmers of America and the area 4-H clubs. She was a member of the Merkel Order of the Eastern Star and the First Baptist Church. She was quoted in an Abilene Reporter News story as saying, "If I had my life to live over, I'd do just what I've done, except I would try to do more and do it better. I've just enjoyed life."
Survivors include one nephew, Mark L. Malone of Merkel; one niece, Eltha Pilars of Sadler; two foster grandchildren; two foster great-grandchildren; and several great nieces and nephews.

Audrey Ray Pritchard
Audrey Ray Pritchard, 82, of Abilene, died Thursday in a San Angelo hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange, with the Rev. Derrell Sanderlin officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Pritchard was born in Comanche County and grew up in Eastland County. He was an Army veteran and served in World War II. He married Wilma Hefner in 1945. He worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company for 37 years in Lee County, N.M. and also in Midland. He moved to Abilene in 1996.
Survivors include his wife of Abilene; two sons, William "Bill" Ray Pritchard of Cedar Hill and Timothy "Tim" Lee Pritchard of Hobbs, N.M.; one daughter, Brenda Burton of Abilene; four grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Lindsey of Midland; and one brother, Earl Pritchard of Deming, N.M.
Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Floyd Allmand
Floyd Allmand, 69, of Abilene, died Friday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, with the Revs. Greg O. Rake and Ed Jackson officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Allmand lived in Snyder and Eastland before moving to Abilene. He retired from Lone Star Gas after 44 years as the South West Regional Manager. He was a former Scout Master for Troop 36 in Snyder and past president of the Snyder Volunteer Fire Department, which he served for 15 years. He was a member of the View Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Loys Allmand of View; one son, Doug Allmand of View; two daughters, Vickie Allmand and Pamela Jo Shipman, both of View; three brothers, J.O. Gill of Abilene, Gene Allmand of Henrietta, and J.W. Allmand of Ovalo; his mother, Margie Allmand of Ovalo; and 11 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jimmy Dewayne Cates
CLYDE - Jimmy Dewayne Cates, 37, formerly of Humble, died Thursday in Conroe.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Clyde Cemetery with the Revs. George Bryan and Bob Radford officiating, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.
Mr. Cates was born in Albany, Ga., and attended school in Clyde. He married Becky Way in Houston in 1981. He worked for Endline U.S.A. Southwest in underground construction. He was a member of the church of God.
Survivors include his wife of Clyde; one daughter, Ashley Michelle Cates of Clyde; his parents, James E. and Patricia Cates of Clyde; two sisters, Susan Monard of Baird and Rhonda Renee Cates of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews.

Donald W. Faust
Donald W. Faust, 74, of Abilene, died Friday in a hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Don Cauble officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Faust was born in Nugent and was a lifelong resident of the Abilene area and graduated from Abilene High School. He retired as a ticket agent after 25 years with Greyhound and after 27 years with the Abilene State School as a dorm shift supervisor. He married Pauline Amelia Capps in Abilene in 1969. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of Abilene; one son, Ricky Don Faust of Waco; one stepson, Ed Standlee of Paradise; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at the family residence.

Betty 'Nanny' Deason
MERKEL - Betty "Nanny" Deason, 67, died Friday at her daughter's home.
Services will be at 4:30 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel.
Mrs. Deason was born in Carlisle, Ark. and moved to Merkel from Monroe, La. in 1973. She was the widow of Philip Deason, whom she married in Smackover, Ark. in 1958. She was a seamstress and a homemaker. She was a member of the Merkel First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Ferguson of Gastonia, N.C. and Becky Whitehead of Merkel; and seven grandchildren.

Mary Lois McCurley Belcher
Mary Lois McCurley Belcher, 93, died Friday in a local retirement center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the University Church of Christ with Drs. Roy Willingham, Henry speck and Eddie Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Mrs. Belcher grew up in Denton County and graduated from Garza High School. She attended North Texas University, Abilene Christian University and the University of Colorado before graduating from Peabody College, Vanderbilt University in 1934. She taught in Corinth, Hebron, Charley, and Magargle. She married Gilmer Lee Belcher in Lewisville in 1927 and moved to Abilene in 1935. She taught in the Art Department of Abilene Christian University and was a substitute for the Abilene Independent School District. She taught third grade at Abilene Christian Schools for 14 years. She was active in the local area Churches of Christ as a Bible School teacher, writing Bible School curriculum, traveling and lecturing. She was a member of the Women of ACU, the ACU Faculty Wives and the Art Club of Abilene Women's Club. She was a member of the University Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband of Abilene; two daughters, Shirley Dean Howeth of Abilene and Mary Lee Umhoefer of Houston; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Georgia Taylor of Abilene,

Edith (Lee) Duffy
BROWNWOOD - Edith (Lee) Duffy, 91, died Friday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Green and Norman Holl officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery.
Mrs. Duffy was born in Brown County. She was the widow of J.P. Duffy. She was a homemaker and a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, O.T. Horton of Lake Brownwood; stepchildren, Darrell Duffy of Cameron, La., John Duffy of Andrews, Connie Kiser of San Angelo, and Faye Southerland of Andrews; one sister, Donie Greer of Andrews; 13 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
