S.G. Russell
MERKEL — S. G. Russell, 86, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.
Services were Thursday in the Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Gill officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Russell was born in Merkel where he attended school. He married Anna May Harris in 1933. He was the manager of the Merkel Locker Plant for 15 years and worked for the City of Merkel. He also did custom farming. He was a charter member of the Merkel Riding Club, a lifetime member of the Professional Cowboy Rodeo Association and roped in Madison Square Garden. He served as grand marshall for the Merkel Christmas parade in 1991. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Merkel.
Survivors include his wife of Merkel; three sons, Jacky Russell of Richardson, Jerry Russell of Merkel, and Jimmy Russell of Neosho, Mo.; one brother, Ralph Russell of Merkel; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Lela M. Hobson
SPRINGTOWN — Lela M. Hobson, 85, formerly of DeLeon, died Wednesday at her home in Springtown.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Indian Gap Cemetery in Hamilton County with the Rev. Ray Seckinger officiating, directed by Hall & Sons Funeral Home of Comanche.
Mrs. Hobson was born in San Augustine. She was the widow of Sidney Doil Hobson, whom she married in 1981. She worked for A. Brandt Furniture Company. She was a member of North Side Baptist Church of DeLeon.
Survivors include one son, Billie Richard DeHart Jr. of LaFayette, La.; one daughter, Wanda Brittain of Springtown; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Eula V. Bryant
STEPHENVILLE — Eula V. Bryant, 85, died Thursday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the West End Cemetery with Bob Pipes officiating, directed by Stephenville Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bryant was born in Louden County, Tenn. She had lived in Stephenville since 1990, moving there from Austin. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include one niece, Celia Belew of Cross Plains; and one nephew, Eddy “Bud” Petty of Cross Plains.

Earnest E. ‘Gene’ Fenton
COLEMAN — Earnest E. “Gene” Fenton, 73, died Thursday in a Brownwood hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Coleman Cemetery, directed by Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Fenton was born in New Central and grew up in Coleman. He attended school in New Central and Centennial. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater and received a Purple Heart. He married Billye White in Coleman in 1942. He had lived in Pampa and Amarillo prior to moving to Coleman two years ago. He had worked for McCracken Electrical Company in Amarillo until retiring in 1987. He was a member of the VFW and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Survivors include his wife of Coleman; three sisters, Agnes Armstrong of Perryton, Pauline Smith of Big Spring, and Juanita Jones of Santa Anna; one brother, Rex Fenton of Ozona; and one grandchild.
Visitation will be from 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Raymond Lopez Gomez
Raymond Lopez Gomez, 62, of Abilene, died Wednesday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Highway 277 South with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park. A prayer service will be at 7 tonight.
Mr. Gomez was born in Abilene and had worked for American State Bank for 25 years. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include two sons, Julian Gomez and Ruben Gomez, both of Abilene; three daughters, Gina Santibanez and Anita Santibanez, both of Abilene, and Elizabeth O’Hara of Peoria, Ariz.; one brother, Sabino Gomez of Abilene; one sister, Luz Portillo of Abilene; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Harold H. Wagman
ALBANY — Harold H. Wagman, 90, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Stovall officiating. Burial will be in Albany Cemetery, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home of Albany.
Mr. Wagman was born in Chicago, Ill. He married Irene Munch in Chicago, Ill., in 1935. He had worked at Union Carbide for 44 years and retired as plant manager of the Riverside, Calif., plant. He had lived in Albany since 1992.
Survivors include his wife of Albany; one son, Dick Wagman of Albany; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Rodney Cleve Sanders
BANGS — Rodney Cleve Sanders died Wednesday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Bangs Cemetery, directed by Heartland Funeral Home.
Mr. Sanders was born in Brownwood and graduated from Bangs High School. He also attended school in Bangs. He was employed by GTE and Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, and retired after 31 years. He was active in the Artist-Blacksmiths’ Association of North America, the Texas Artist Blacksmith’s Association and the Bangs Mayfest Committee.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lavon; three sons, Mark Sanders of Fort Worth, Jeff Sanders of Kerrville and Alfred Mendez of Austin; five daughters, Pam Hendry of Richardson, Martha Victory of Austin, Anne Ramos of Austin, Ellen Ramos of Corpus Christi, and Lola Leal of Corpus Christi; one sister, Betty Cathey of Novice;10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Bangs.

Elva Griffin Jones
LAWN - Elva Griffin Jones, 94, a longtime Lawn resident, died Thursday in an Abilene Care Center.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Dewey Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home of Tuscola.
Mrs. Jones was born in Lawn where she grew up and attended school. She is the widow of John Uner Jones. She was a Baptist. She was a cafeteria worker in the Lawn School.
Survivors include one son, Glen Jones of Abilene, and three grandchildren.

Elizabeth 'Liz' Johnston
COLEMAN - Elizabeth "Liz" Johnston, 81, a longtime Coleman resident, died Friday in Dallas.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Reed Justus officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery, directed by Stevens Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnston was born in Kenton, Okla. and grew up in Boise City, Okla. She graduated from Panhandle A&M. She was the widow of Amon Johnston whom she married in Dalhart in 1940. She taught speech, drama, and English at Coleman High School. She served on the Administrative Board, the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, and was a member of the Chapel Class, the Chancel Choir, and the United Methodist Women at the First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Library Literacy Program, and the Food Pantry of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Johnston and James Johnston, both of Dallas, and Don Johnston of Southlake; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Amon and Elizabeth Johnston Memorial Fund at First United Methodist Church in Coleman.

Edith E. Morrison
ALBANY - Edith E. Morrison, 98, died Thursday in an Austin care center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Johnson Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Clack officiating, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home.
Mrs. Morrison was born in Dallas. She was the widow of Benjamin F. Morrison, whom she married in Georgetown in 1918. She was a homemaker, and was active in school-related activities and the PTA. She was a sponsor of the 4-H Club of Moran, member of Sedwick Women's Club and the Deep Creek Home Demonstration Club, and served as a room mother for several years.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Hawkins of Albany; one sister, Merdell Williams of Georgetown; one brother, Morris Conaway of Temple; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
