BROWNWOOD — Marjorie Scott, 95, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Greenleaf Cemetery with Dr. Norbert Peil officiating, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Scott was born in Brownwood and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Daniel Baker College and attended graduate school in Tennessee. She was a homemaker and a member of the Union Presbyterian Church.

Bertha Lynn Wilson
RULE — Bertha Lynn Wilson, 79, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Rule with the Revs. Scott Hensley and John Greeson officiating. Burial will be in Rule Cemetery, directed by McCauley-Robison Funeral Home.
Ms. Wilson was born in Haskell County. She worked as a dietician and also cared for the elderly. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rule.
Survivors include three sisters, Maudie Morris of Dallas, Elizabeth Byrd of Rochester and Cleo Gann of Rule; three brothers, R.N. Wilson and Lee Roy Wilson, both of Rule, and Billy Wilson of Petersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

James A. Simpson
EARLY — James A. Simpson, 74, died Wednesday at a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Eastland Memorial Park with the Rev. Herman Merritt officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mr. Simpson worked most of his life on the family ranch near Blanket. He had previously lived in Early and Blanket. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include several cousins.

John L. Eckels
FORT WORTH — John L. Eckels, 69, formerly of Early, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Jesse Morton officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Eckels was born in Alva, Okla. He attended Tarrant County Junior College. He married Kathy Hart on April 20, 1959, in Fort Worth. He worked most of his life as a carpenter but had also worked as a commercial fisherman, a welder, and in blood services. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife of Early; two brothers, LeRoy Eckels of Japan and Earl Eckels of Fort Worth; six sisters, Stella Melton of Culbertson, Mont., Viola Roso and Sylvia Pyeatt, both of Fort Worth, Helen Schiffner of Alva, Okla., Louella Smith of Texas City, and Revenna Grimes of Comanche; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mary Cortez Arispe
WINTERS — Mary Cortez Arispe, 68, of Abilene, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Winters Funeral Home. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with the Rev. Sam Hornsey officiating. Burial will be in Northview Cemetery.
Mrs. Arispe was born in Winters and live in the area most of her life. As a nurse, she worked in Amarillo, Winters, and Abilene prior to her retirement in 1992. She was a Catholic and a Crusillista.
Survivors include two sons, Elias Arispe Jr. and Lino Arispe, both of Abilene; three daughters, Carmen Balint of Hampton, Va., and Yolanda Jacques and Linda Piazza, both of Abilene; six brothers, Joe Cortez of Haskell, Jake Cortez Jr. and Fred Cortez, both of Winters, Herbert Cortez of Virginia Beach, Va., Ray Cortez of Abilene, and Ernest Cortez of Bryan; one sister, Amada Cortez of Winters; 10 grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel Catholic Church or Hendrick Hospice Care.

Mrs. R.L. ‘Pauline’ Garrett
PFLUGERVILLE — Mrs. R.L. “Pauline” Garrett, 91, formerly of Brownwood and Santa Anna, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with the Rev. Don Scott officiating. Burial will be in Santa Anna Cemetery.
Mrs. Garrett was the widow of Robert Lee Garrett, whom she married in Walters, Okla., in 1933. She was retired as the city secretary for the City of Santa Anna.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara A. Boan of Memphis, Tenn., and Charlie Sue Guymon and Pamela Kay Anderson, both of Austin; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lona 'Billie' Shackelford Dodson
Lona "Billie" Shackelford Dodson, 89, died Thursday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Clyde Cemetery with the Rev. Robert C. Allen officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Dodson was born in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School. She was the widow of Oren Cecil Dodson, whom she married on March 17, 1928, in Abilene. She had lived in Clyde for 25 years and was a member of the First Christian Church in Abilene.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Toby Shackelford of Abilene and Mrs. Alan Shackelford of Augusta, Ga.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Otis F. Sims
Otis F. Sims, 77, of Abilene, died Friday at a local hospital
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today at Elmwood Memorial Park with Michael Schirle officiating, directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Mr. Sims was born in Anson. He married Naomi Proffitt in 1942. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was awarded the Purple Heart. He had worked at the West Texas Cotton Oil Mill and was retired from Preston Dairy. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and of the Disabled American Veterans Organization.
Survivors include his wife of Abilene; two sons, Otis C. Sims of Beaumont and Dennis Wayne Sims of Merkel; two sisters, Fonda Mae Day and Mattie B. Moran, both of Abilene; one brother, Tony Sims of Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Sutton P. Crofts
CISCO - Sutton P. Crofts, 92, a longtime resident, died Thursday in an Eastland hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Turner officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home of Cisco.
Mr. Crofts was born in Cypress Mill. He was the widower of Mary French Crofts, whom he married on June 30, 1929, in Cypress Mills. He was a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin and lived in Austin until 1932, when he brought a herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle to Cisco and leased the Chesley Ranch. The Crofts family ranch was the recipient of the Family Land Heritage Program certificate in1976. He also operated the Crofts Fish Hook Ranch in Blanco County. He served as City Secretary for 20 years. He was inducted into the American Cattle Breeders Hall of Fame in 1975. He was an organizer and served as secretary of the Texas Aberdeen Angus Association. He served as president and secretary of both the Heart of Texas Association and Cisco Livestock Show Association. He was a member of the Rotary Club and the Lions Club. He served on the church council and in many other offices of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Webster of Fort Worth and Dot Mittel of Arlington; two sons, Robert Crofts of Orange, Calif. and Dash Crofts of Hendersonville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Cisco.

Preston Landor
Preston Landor, 51, of Abilene, died Wednesday in Abilene.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Darrell Martin officiating. Graveside rites with military honors by the Veterans Honor Guard will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Landor was born in New Orleans and had lived in Abilene for 27 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. He married Lorine Barnes on April 20, 1974, in Abilene. He was active in the Abilene Independent School District PTA and the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Rodney Landor, Jermaine Landor, Patrick Landor, Desmond Landor, and Julen Landor, all of Abilene; one daughter, Sabrina Landor of Abilene; his mother, Helen Landor of Houston; two brothers, Ronald Lanaux of New York City, N.Y. and Pedro Williams of St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters, Sabrina Williams Price of Colo., Petrina Curtis of Los Angeles, Calif., and Petronella Williams of N.C.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
