Lois Virginia ‘Dot’ Simpkins
Lois Virginia “Dot” Simpkins, 68, of Abilene died Saturday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home Chapel, 1443 N. 2nd, with the Rev. Robert Giles officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Rule Cemetery.
Mrs. Simpkins was born in Rochester and moved to Abilene from the Rule-Rochester area in 1958. She retired after 29 years as a receptionist at Hendrick Medical Center and was a Baptist.
Survivors include her mother, Bertha Simpkins of Abilene; one son, Freddie Simpkins of Abilene; two brothers, Jim Simpkins of Abilene and Gene Simpkins of Big Spring; two sisters, Addie Johnson and Dale Phillips, both of Abilene; and two grandsons.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Doris Collum
Doris Collum, 76, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. David Cason officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Homes, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Collum was born in Jones County and had lived in Abilene all her life. She attended Willow Creek schools and was a member of Broadview Baptist Church. She was a retired hairdresser from Sayles Beauty Salon. She married Carl Jasper Collum in 1938 in Abilene; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Carl Collum of Bedford; three brothers, Ralph Vinson of Lake Proctor, Joe Vinson of Jonesboro, Ark., and Wilburn Vinson of Alma, Ark.; two sisters, Jean Stinchcomb of Lake Proctor and Ellen Myatt of Graham; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. today.

Exa Lorene Lott
FORT WORTH — Exa Lorene Lott, 95, died Friday.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rule Cemetery in Rule, directed by Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lott was born near Rule in Haskell County. She was the widow of Ernest Lott. She moved to Rule and worked at the Rule Cotton Compress. She moved to Fort Worth in 1976, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Worth.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Loris Lott; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Furlong
BIG SPRING — Kenneth Furlong, 69, died Saturday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Monroe Teeters officiating, directed by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Mr. Furlong was born in Lubbock and moved to the Big Spring area in 1968 from Iraan. He worked as an oil field pumper for Wood McShane Co., retiring in 1992. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Coates of Big Spring and Patsy Ritchey of Colorado City; two sons, Ricky Furlong of Kent and Kenneth Furlong of Crawford; three sisters, one brother and seven grandchildren.

J.A. McClain
ROTAN — J.A. McClain, 78, died Saturday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Jack Cummings and Werth Mayes officiating. Burial will be in Belvieu Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home.
Mr. McClain was born in Spur and was a veteran of World War II. He was a City Council member for six years and a member of the Democratic Committee since 1974. He serve two years in the Veterans Service Office and was a member of Gideon International and First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He married Vivian Sweeney in 1993 in Stamford.
Survivors include his wife, of Rotan, eight children, one brother and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Frances ‘Fran’ Adams
BROWNWOOD — Frances “Fran” Adams, 77, of Early died Sunday at a local hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Early with the Rev. Jess Smith and Sloan Ruth officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mrs. Adams was born in Blooming Grove and had lived in Brownwood before moving to Early 35 years ago. She was a homemaker and taught tole painting for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Early. She married J.B. Adams in 1941 in Brownwood.
Survivors include her husband, of Brownwood; one daughter, Kay Sheffield of Fredericksburg; one son, J.B. “Jeff” Adams Jr. of Spring Branch; one brother, Gerald Grinstead of Lake Brownwood; two sisters, Maude Singleton of Brownwood and Jo Ann Fallin of Midland; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the donor’s favorite charity.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. today.

Charles Gaston Swofford
CLYDE — Charles Gaston Swofford, 64, city attorney from 1960 until the mid-1980s, died Saturday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Joplin and the Rev. Riley Fugitt officiating. Burial will be in Clyde Cemetery, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.
Mr. Swofford was born in Winters and moved to Clyde as a child. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1953 and from the University of Texas with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He graduated from UT law school with a law degree and moved to Clyde from Austin in 1960. He had practiced law in Clyde since that time. He was a member of Clyde Lions Club, Abilene Bar Association, State of Texas Bar Association and First Baptist Church. He married Mary Elaine Scott in 1953 at Wylie.
Survivors include his wife, of Clyde; two sons, Charles Swofford of Atlanta, Ga., and John Swofford of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Diane Horner of Baird and Lynne Settle of Austin; his mother, Gladys Swofford of Clyde; one brother, Jerry Swofford of Clyde; and nine grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

James ‘Jim’ Berg
BROWNWOOD — James A. “Jim” Berg, 55, of Early died Saturday at a Big Spring hospital after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Staley Cemetery with chaplain Dale Stearns officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mr. Berg was born in Cooperstown, N.D., and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a welder for many years and had lived in Brown County several years, after living in Colorado, North Dakota and other parts of Texas.
Survivors include one son, James Lloyd Berg; two daughters, Amanda Cullins of Early and Jennifer Cullins of Bangs; two brothers, Lewis Berg of Anaheim, Calif., and John Berg of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Dorothy Sattler of West Fargo, N.D.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Clifton ‘Tim’ Cockrell
ANSON — Clifton “Tim” Cockrell, 85, died Sunday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Welch officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Tuxedo, directed by Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home.
Mr. Cockrell was born in Amarillo and attended school in Estancia, N.Mex. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Bataan Death March. He moved to Anson in 1974 and worked as a national cemetery superintendent. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church and a member of American Ex-Prisoners of War, Disabled American Veterans and American Defenders of Bataan and Corrigador. He married Traleta DeBusk in 1946 in Santa Fe, N.Mex.
Survivors include his wife, of Anson; one son, John Clifton Cockrell of Anson; and one brother, Clinton “Mike” Cockrell.
