Mary Elizabeth Schrader
AUSTIN — Mary Elizabeth Schrader, 88, died Saturday.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, at the Fairview Baptist Church in Austin with the Rev. Charles Long officiating. Burial will be in Capital Memorial Park in Pflugerville, directed by Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home of Austin.
Mrs. Schrader was born in San Antonio. She was a seamstress at the Lighthouse for the Blind.
She is survived by one son, Carl Kieke, a longtime Abilene Reporter-News employee.

Chester Brown
Chester Brown, 70, died Thursday at his residence in Abilene after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 3, in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Revs. R.L. Brown and Joe Coleman officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Brown was born in Little Rock, Ark. He moved to Abilene from Brownfield in 1992. He was the widower of Artvell McCray Brown, whom he married on Nov. 28, 1947. He was a farmer and a Baptist.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Williams of Alamogordo, N.M., and Shirley Hubbard and Debra Brown both of Bakersfield, Calif.; his mother, Zettla Brown of Abilene; four sisters, Ophelia Brown of Abilene, Mattie Berry of Cisco, and Floyda Mae Smith and Bobbie Peterson both of Lubbock; two brothers, Rachel Brown and Harold Brown both of Abilene; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family will be at 850 Ash.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pauline ‘Polly’ Edwards
Pauline “Polly” Edwards, 79, died Monday at her residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy. 277 South, with Dr. Ray Sikes officiating. Burial will be in McBee Cemetery.
Mrs. Edwards was born in Ovalo and moved to Abilene in 1941. She married Marvin Edwards in Ovalo in 1941. She was a self-employed hairdresser and a charter member of the Crescent Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of Abilene; and three brothers, M.W. Hendrix of Abilene, Foy Hendrix of Abernathy, and Billy Hendrix of Houston.

Fred E. Strange
BROWNWOOD — Fred E. Strange, 86, died Monday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 3, at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with Bo Shero officiating. Burial will be in the Mukewater Cemetery in Brown County.
Mr. Strange, member of a Brown County pioneer family, was a lifetime Brownwood resident. He was the widower of Clara Rhodes Strange, whom he married on Dec. 23, 1937, in Brownwood. He was a rancher and a construction worker. He was a member of the Austin Avenue Church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Prater of Brownwood; two grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ionah Mae Vinson
CORPUS CHRISTI — Ionah Mae Vinson, 87, formerly of Winters, died Sunday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Winters First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Roath officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, directed by Winters Funeral Home.
Mrs. Vinson was born in Winters, where she graduated from high school in 1930. She also attended Draughon’s Beauty College in Abilene. She was the widow of J.D. Vinson, whom she married on Sept. 5, 1934, in Winters. She was a member of the Winters First United Methodist Church, the Home Demonstration Club, and the Women’s Society for Christian Service.
Survivors include three sons, Jim Wayne Vinson of Point Blank, Don Vinson of Corpus Christi, and James Kenneth Vinson of Austin; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Marie Emmeline Stuart
WACO — Marie Emmeline Stuart, 90, formerly of Ballinger, died Monday in a local care center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Rains-Seale Funeral Home Chapel in Ballinger. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Stuart was born in LaGrange, Mo. She was the widow of Troy Sterling Stuart, whom she married on Jan. 5, 1946, in Ballinger. She was the Deputy County Clerk in Runnels County for 40 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Ballinger First Baptist Church. She moved to Waco in 1997.
Survivors include one daughter, Aline White of West; one brother, J.D. Norwood of Abilene; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Sarah A. Doerschuk-Holden
CARLSBAD, CALIF. — Sarah A. Doerschuk-Holden, 55, died Saturday in a local hospital
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 3, in the Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel in Oceanside, Calif. Private burial will be in Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside.
Mrs. Doerschuk-Holden was born in Macon, Ga. She was employed by Monterey Financial Services in Oceanside, Calif. She was a member of the P.E.O. San Diego Chapter and was an elder in the Mira Mesa Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her parents, Kathryn J. and Herbert C. Doerschuk of Aurora, Colo.; one son, Jay Scott Holden of Escondido, Calif.; one daughter, Jennifer H. Martinez of Escondido, Calif.; one brother, John Wade Doerschuk Sr. of Abilene; two grandchildren; and a niece and a nephew.

Ernest Lee Newsom
HAMILTON — Ernest Lee Newsom, 80, a resident of the Lamkin Community in Comanche County, died Monday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton with the Revs. Allen Gilbert and Larry Cox officiating. Burial will be in Gentry Mills Cemetery in Hamilton County.
Mr. Newsom was born near Snyder. He was the widower of Betty Doris Hoyle Newsom, whom he married on Nov. 11, 1937, in Snyder. He lived in Big Spring until 1965, when he moved to the Gentry Mills area of Comanche County. He was a minister and a farmer.
Survivors include two sons, Roy Lee Newsom of Lamkin and Vernon Neal Newsom of Mansfield; one daughter, Cleta Jo Stapp of Lamkin; three sisters, Gladys Parrish, Grace Clanton, and Eva Neal all of Artesia, N.M.; three brothers, Amos Newsom of Las Vegas, Nev., and M.C. Newsom Jr. and Virgil Newsom both of Artesia, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Alton Hardy Harris
BUFFALO GAP - Alton Hardy Harris, 56, died Monday in a Galveston hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 4, in Buffalo Gap Cemetery with the Rev. Marvin Haile officiating, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home of Tuscola.
Mr. Harris was born in Abilene and served in the U.S. Navy for 16 years, including two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He moved to Buffalo Gap in 1974, and Jacksonville, Texas in 1989. He worked in the oil field and then was a cattle truck driver for several years.
Survivors include one daughter, Krista Harris of Buffalo Gap; his mother, Lillian McDonald of San Antonio; four sisters, Helen Woodard of Fort Worth, Wanda Taylor of Bridgeport, Judy Hartsfield of San Antonio, and Louise Richards of Hawley; four brothers, Melvin McDonald of San Marcos, William McDonald of San Antonio, Joe McDonald of Spring Branch, and James McDonald of Poteet; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Boyce Wayne McKenzie
Boyce Wayne McKenzie, 67, of Abilene, died Tuesday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Baker Heights Church of Christ with Bill Basket and Dean Hagler officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. McKenzie was born in Ballinger, and attended school in Ballinger and Norton. He married Allie Gowen on Feb. 5, 1955, in Midland. He moved to Abilene in 1965. He worked for Harold Crawford and as a self-employed contractor for 15 year, later owning Abilene Shell Service Center from 1983 until 1990 and ran A&B Wrecking from 1983 until 1992. He was a member of the Baker Heights Church of Christ and International Order of Oddfellows. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife of Abilene; two sons, Dennis McKenzie of Spencer, Ind. and Donnie McKenzie of Sulphur Springs; two daughters, Kathy McKenzie Wilson of Frisco and Loretta Merkle of Wichita, Kan.; two brothers, Calvin Earl McKenzie of Stanton and Tommy Lynn McKenzie; one sister, Virginia Mae Griffin of Rosepine, La.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 4, at the funeral home.
