Fred Blackwell
RANGER — Fred Blackwell, 48, died Saturday following a boating accident.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Ranger Mesquite and Rusk Street Church of Christ with Ken Evans officiating. Burial will be in Alameda Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Ranger.
Mr. Blackwell was born in Gorman and raised in Ranger. He married Debbie Christian and they moved to Fort Worth where he worked for Buddy’s Supermarket. He returned to Ranger in 1971 and worked for Quality Supermarket and later Adams Grocery. He married Betty Nance. He was employed by the Eastland Mental Health Mental Retardation office at the time of his death. He was a member of the Mesquite and Rusk Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, David Blackwell of Davis, Calif.; four daughters, Tammy Weisman of Valley Center, Calif., Jenifer Blackwell of Cleburne, Anessa Nance of Arlington, and Sandra Wuorinen of Eugene, Ore.; his mother, Juanita Blackwell of Ranger; one sister, Gay Burnett of Ranger; one brother, Larry Blackwell of Bedford; and four grandchildren.

Walter Riggsby Belcher
KNOX CITY — Walter Riggsby Belcher, 94, died Friday at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 17, at Knox City Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Knox City.
Mr. Belcher was born in Lebanon, Tenn. He married Minnie Mae Prine on Dec. 15, 1930 in Silver, TX. He had lived in Knox County for 24 years and was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife of Knox City; one son, Stiles Dwain Belcher of Knox City; one daughter, Wahnemia Jo groves of Round Rock; one sister, Robbie Williams of Lubbock; one brother, Jack Belcher of Lubbock; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Gertrude Thomas Gilmore
THROCKMORTON — Gertrude Thomas Gilmore, 89, died Monday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at the Merriman-Archer Funeral Home in Throckmorton with the Rev. Charles Fischer officiating. Burial will be in Throckmorton Cemetery.
Mrs. Gilmore was born in Albany. She was the widow of William Carey Thomas on May 26, 1926. She married Bobby Earl Gilmore on Sept. 9, 1971 in Palo Pinto. She was an OVN and had worked at the Throckmorton hospital, the Albany hospital, several nursing homes, and also did private duty. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband of Throckmorton; one daughter, Jo Helen Burson of Abilene; one son, Bill Thomas of Midland; two brothers, Edwin Taylor Oklahoma City, Okla. and J.F. Taylor Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Marshall B. Tongate
BROWNWOOD — Marshall B. Tongate, 75, died Monday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with Art Allen officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial park.
Mr. Tongate was born in Brown County where he lived most of his life. He was a retired pipefitter.
Survivors include one brother, James Tongate of Brownwood; niece, Marsha J. Tongate of Brownwood; one nephew, Jim Boy Tongate of Gouldbusk; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 6-8:30 today at the funeral home.

James V. Fox
PUTNAM — James V. Fox, 88, died Monday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock with the Rev. Bobby Lee officiating, directed by Parker Funeral Home of Baird.
Mr. Fox was born in Vernon and had lived in Putnam for five years. He was a retired Federal Weigh Master with Burroughs Grain Elevator and was a member of the First Christian Church. He married Jewel Beatrice in Ringold on March 13, 1935.
Survivors include one son, Ken Fox of Putnam; three sisters, Ella Zeffley of Phoenix, Ariz., Billie Jo Walker of Lubbock, and Essie Dutton of Electra; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Jack E. Feller
BROWNWOOD — Jack E. Feller, 85, died Sunday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Greenleaf Cemetery with the Rev. R.J. Elkins officiating, directed by Davis-Morris funeral Home of Brownwood.
Mr. Feller was born in Wisconsin and had lived in Brownwood for 60 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a retired plasterer in building construction. He married Violet Larue McAlister in Comanche in 1941.
Survivors include his wife of Brownwood; and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Dean Sliger
EARLY — Dean Sliger, 62, died Monday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with the Revs. Richard Ivey and Andrew Bradley officiating. Burial will be in the Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Sliger was born in Comanche County and spent most of his life in the Brownwood and Early area. He was the owner and operator of Sliger Produce. He married Sharon Wigzell on March 1, 1983, in Brownwood. He was a member of Sunset Baptist Mission.
Survivors include his wife of Early; two sons, James Sliger of Brownwood and Cullen Sliger of Early; one brother, T.J. Sliger of Early; one sister, Paula Sliger of Brownwood; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thomas Gallardo
STAMFORD — Thomas Gallardo, 54, died Monday in a local hospital.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today in the Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 North 12th Street. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford.
Mr. Gallardo was born in Stamford and attended school there. He worked for Stamford Cotton Oil Mill & gin for 20 years. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include lifelong companion, Ernestina “Tina” Gomez; one son, Thomas Gallardo Jr. of Stamford; one daughter, Janie Gallardo of Stamford; two stepsons, Lupe Gomez and Phillip Gomez; four brothers, Pete Mendez of El Paso, Max Mendez of Salina, Kan., Mareclino Gallardo and Raymond Gallardo both of Stamford; three sisters, Roberta Diaz, Rose Barnett and Jose Cordero all of Salina, Kan.; and three grandchildren.

Steve Monk
BRECKENRIDGE — Steve Monk, 52, died Monday in Abilene.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Graham First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery, directed by McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home of Graham.
Mr. Monk was born in Plainview. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He married Gaye Smith in Lubbock in 1967. He graduated from North Texas State University and earned his Master’s degree at Texas Tech. He served as faculty advisor of the University Daily at Texas Tech and was editor of the Graham Leader. He had worked for Graham Magnetics and was an independent publisher. He had been currently serving as pastor of St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Breckenridge.
Survivors include his wife of Breckenridge; two sons, Jason Monk and Byron Monk both of Fort Worth; his mother, Mary Zella Monk of Dimmitt; one brother, Larry Monk of Tahoka; and one sister, Linda Koch of Dimmitt.
