Jean Stanford

ROTAN - Jean Stanford, 67, died Monday at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Werth Mayes officiating. Burial will be in Belvieu Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home of Rotan.

Mrs. Stanford was born in Jayton. She married Tommy "Lyndle" Stanford on June 28, 1952 in Rotan. She worked as a nurse's aide for 20 years and was self-employed for ten years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of Rotan; two sons, Ricky Stanford of Coleman and David Stanford of Isabel, Kan.; two daughters, Patsy Weems of Crosbyton and Kathy Schulein of Lubbock; two brothers L.C. Hutchingson of Rotan and Willis Hutchingson; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Annette Ruth Clark

MERKEL - Annette Ruth Clark, 66, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Greg Kennedy, Jimmy Griffith, and Kenneth Jones officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.

Mrs. Clark was born in Merkel. She graduated from Merkel High School in 1951. She married John H. Clark Jr. on Oct. 3, 1952 in Sweetwater. She was the executive director of the Merkel Housing Authority for 12 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of and served as the church organist for 35 years and church secretary for four years at the Merkel First United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of Merkel; one daughter, Janie Barber of Springdale, AR; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, S 3rd and Locust Street, Merkel, TX 79536 or donor's favorite charity.

Lonnie T. Hickman

Lonnie T. Hickman, 69, of Abilene and formerly of Stamford and Fort Worth, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home Chapel, 1443 North Second with the Rev. Jesse Hooper officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Hickman was born in Perry. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and earned the National Defense Medal. He was a truck driver and had taught high school automotive class. He was a member of the Stamford Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Survivors include companion, Mary L. Powell of Abilene; two daughters, Vickie Bogany Hernandez of Fort Worth and Roslyn Kay Hickman of Anchorage, Alaska; one son, Tarrone Thompson of Abilene; one stepson, Edward Gardner of San Antonio; one brother, Murray Hickman Jr. of Fort Worth; two sisters, Katherine Henry of Fort Worth; Lillian Richardson of Houston; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, West Central Texas, Inc., P.O. Box 3344, Abilene, TX 79604.

The family will be at 5426 Durango, Abilene, TX.

Evelyn 'Marie' Parvin

Evelyn "Marie" Parvin, 64, of Abilene, died Tuesday at her residence.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, at North's Funeral Home Chapel, 242 Orange, with the Rev. Rickie Rister officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Parvin was born in Corsicana and moved to Abilene in 1964. She worked in local restaurants, including the Dixie Pig, for 20 years before retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Farrer of Chicago, Ill.; four sisters, Opal Knott of Abilene, Kathryn Knott of Dallas, Esther Chris of Balch Springs, and Shirley Long of Calif.; two brothers, Calvin Eugene and Jessie Knott of Dallas; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-7:30 today at the funeral home.

Garvin Miller

ANSON - Garvin Miller, 84, an Anson resident since 1947, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at the First Baptist Church with the Revs. Lee Welch and Larry Adams officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home of Anson.

Mr. Miller was born in Beeville. He was the widower of Mary Frances "Frankie" Mathis, whom he married on Oct. 31, 1935 in Jones County. He was a superintendent at Walsh & Watts Oil Company for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Anson Masonic Lodge 575 and the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Miller of Hamlin and Edwin Miller of Weatherford; one daughter, Joyce Galle of Clyde; two brothers, Raymond Miller of Brownwood and Durwood Miller of Granbury; one sister, Eva Newman of Odessa; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, July 2, at the funeral home.

Noreta 'Reta' Backus Hubbard

Noreta "Reta" Backus Hubbard, 59, of Abilene, died Tuesday at her residence.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. James Teel officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mrs. Hubbard was born in Stamford. She was the widow of Bobby Gayle Hubbard. She had worked as a ticket agent for Continental Airlines for 20 years. She moved to Abilene from Rising Star in 1997. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include two brothers, Harold Backus of Abilene and Joe Howell of Hearne.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Anna Belle Moran

Anna Belle Moran, 97, of Abilene, died Tuesday at a local care center.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Jack Hardy officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy. 277 South.

Mrs. Moran was born in Seagoville and moved to Merkel at a young age before moving to Hodges and attending school in the Sandburr Community. She moved to Abilene in 1925. She was the widow of Justin L. Moran, whom she married on March 13, 1920 in Hawley. She and her husband ran a grocery store on Oak Street. She also worked for J.C. Penny and Thornton's Department Store. She was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church. She was a member of the World War I Auxiliary, AARP, and the Sewing Club.

Survivors include one sister, Dessie Maschek, and four nephews including Larry Yerger of Abilene.

Jessica Paige Schroeder

BRECKENRIDGE - Jessica Paige Schroeder, 14, died Tuesday in Cooks Children's Hospital in Fort Worth.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 2, at the Gunsight Baptist Church with the Revs. Rex Boggs and Rex Dodds officiating. Burial will be in Gunsight Cemetery, directed by Morehart Mortuary of Breckenridge.

Jessica was born in Bakersfield, Calif. and had moved to Breckenridge in 1997, where she was a freshman at Breckenridge High School. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her mother, Kelly Yvette Schroeder of Breckenridge; her father, Robert Donald Schroeder of Hessel, Calif.; stepfather, James Ashby of Tuttle, Okla; one brother, Dennis Drew Ashby of Tuttle, Okla.; one sister, Lacey Savannah Schroeder of Breckenridge; grandparents, Nelda and Joe Brown of Breckenridge, Calvin Huffman of Breckenridge, Johnny Jaynes of Odessa, and Dennis and Ofelia Ashby of Cantary, Okla; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Memorials may be made to the Gunsight Baptist Church or the Breckenridge Senior Citizens and may be left at the funeral home.

Mae Belle Astin

STAMFORD - Mae Belle Astin, 89, died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, at the Stamford First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Cemetery, directed by Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford.

Mrs. Astin was born in Alvarado and had been a resident of Stamford since 1936. She was the widow of Raymond H. Astin, whom she married in 1944. She taught first grade for the Stamford Independent School District for 28 years. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Garden Club and the Pierian Club.

Survivors include two nieces, Patsy Astin and Ruth Cochran both of Stamford; one nephew, Roy Allen Stone of Plano; and numerous great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
