Ida Mae Matheny
ROCHESTER - Ida Mae Matheny, 91, of Lubbock and formerly of Haskell County, died Wednesday at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, at Rochester Church of Christ with John Greeson and Robert Matheny officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester Cemetery, directed by Mansell-Smith Funeral Home of Knox City.
Mrs. Matheny was born northwest of Rule and graduated from Rule High School. She attended Hardin Simmons College. She was the widow of H.L. Matheny, whom she married on March 22, 1929 in Rule. She was the Rochester postmaster for some time and later worked in the bank. She and her husband lived in Rochester, Austin, Andrews, Bayard, NM, and Anthony where he pastored churches. She was a member of the Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Mary Sue Henry of Amarillo; five nieces; and 16 nephews.

Jean K. Clark
COLEMAN - Jean K. Clark, 80, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, in the Oplin Cemetery with the Rev. David Jenkins officiating, directed by Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.
Mrs. Clark was born in Oklahoma. She was the widow of David A. Clark. She was a homemaker and a member of the Trinity Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Landry of Glen Rose and Margie Mayo of Coleman; one son, Ronald Clark of Roanoke, VA.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

J.D. 'Jake' Hall
ASPERMONT - J.D. "Jake" Hall, 83, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 2, at the Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Ballou officiating. Burial will be in the Aspermont Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Aspermont.
Mr. Hall was born in Swenson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the Omaha Beach invasion and serving in Normandy, Rhineland and the Panama Canal. He married Dolores Keller on Aug. 20, 1957 in Jayton.
Survivors include his wife of Aspermont; one daughter, Karen McDaniel of Iowa Park; two sons, Russell Hall of Jacksboro and Gary Cowan of Hamlin; one stepson, Gene Cowan of Brownsville; two sisters, Gladys Miller of Amarillo and Belle Sherrod of Aspermont; and 10 grandchildren.

Bessie Lee Davenport Webb
BALLINGER - Bessie Lee Davenport Webb, 97, a lifelong resident of Runnels County, died Tuesday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 9 a.m. today at the Ballinger First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Old Runnels Cemetery, directed by Rains-Seals Funeral Home of Ballinger.
Mrs. Webb was born near Old Runnels to a pioneer ranching and farming family, and attended Ballinger schools. She was the widow of Vernon Webb, whom she married on April 10, 1920. She worked as a sales clerk at the Ballinger J.C. Penny store until her retirement in 1960. She was a 50-year member of the Philathea Sunday School Class of the Ballinger First United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Eastern Star. She received many awards for her needlework.
Survivors include one son, Charles Vernon of Ballinger; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Matt 'Smitty' Smith Jr.
HENRY, TENN. - Matt, "Smitty" Smith Jr., 66, formerly of Abilene, died Wednesday in a local care facility.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at the Ridgeway Funeral Home Chapel in Paris, Tenn. Burial will be in the Henry City Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born in Pineville, Ken. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Betty Mae Goins on April 6, 1950. He was the owner/operator of Smitty's Grocery Store in Henry, Tenn. He had also owned/operated Matt's Paint & Repair in Abilene. He was a member of the Church of the Latter Day Saints in Paris, Tenn.
Survivors include his wife of Henry, Tenn.; four daughters, Betty June Carpenter of Henry, Tenn, Sandra Gail Wright of Willard, Mo., Penny Murphy of Springfield, Mo., and Becky Lott of Abilene; six sons, Joe R. Ivey of Watauga, Benjamin H. Smith of Fort Worth, Allen R. Smith of Atlanta, Ga., Nelson M. Smith of Crossville, Tenn., Harry E. Smith of Abilene, and John F. Smith of Henry, Tenn.; two sisters, Marie Walters and Mary Ellen Wilson both of Pineville, Ken., one brother, Boone Smith of Crossville, Tenn.; 35 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 2, and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, July 3.

Flora Earl Neeley Parker
JAYTON - Flora Earl Neeley Parker, 86, died Tuesday in a Lubbock care center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Jayton First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Reinbolt officiating. Burial will be directed by Campbell Funeral Home of Spur.
Mrs. Parker was born in Fisher County and graduated from McAdoo High School. She attended Amarillo Junior College. She moved to Jayton from Spur in 1946. She was the widow of Lee Parker, whom she married on Nov. 20, 1932 in McAdoo. She worked with her husband in the Parker Butane business in Jayton. She was a Methodist.
Survivors include one son, David Parker of Jayton; four daughters, Shirley Haddick of Arlington, Flora Hogan of Center Point, Bobbie Meixner of Vernon and Betty Culpepper of San Antonio; two brothers, Koy Neeley of Lampasas and Kenneth Neeley of Amarillo; four sisters, Theresa Holmes of Clyde, Winnie D. Burney of San Antonio, Myrna Nell Byrum of Anton and Joan Power of Bentonville, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Lottie Louise Cummings
WINTERS - Lottie Louise Cummings, 84, died Tuesday in a Midland care center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 2, at the Winters Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
Mrs. Cummings was born in Marlin and had lived in Runnels County most of her life. She was the widow of Fred R. Cummings, whom she married on July 21, 1932. She had worked at Dry Manufacturing and was a former member of the Winters and Bronte Country Clubs, where she played her last round of golf at age 80. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include one daughter, Lera Kay Randolph of Midland; one brother, Arthur Dean of Robert Lee; two sisters, Ivie Reese of East Wenatchee, Wash. and Dorothy Robbins of Abilene; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Georgia Sheppard
HASKELL - Georgia Sheppard, 81, formerly of Bowie, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, at the Owens-Brumley-Burgess-Fry Funeral Home Chapel in Bowie with the Rev. Terri Haralson and Max Bell officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors of Haskell.
Mrs. Sheppard was born in Maybelle in Baylor County. She was the widow of Herbert Edwin Sheppard, whom she married on Sept. 7, 1940 in Rio Grande City. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include one stepson, Max Bell of Bowie; two grandchildren, Ann Brandon and Walter Brandon both of Haskell; three nieces; two nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Eddie U. Bull Sr.
Eddie U. Bull Sr., 73, died Tuesday at a local hospital
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at the Crescent Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Dale officiating. Burial will be in the Midway Cemetery, directed by Girdner-Brown Funeral Home, 111 Elm.
Mr. Bull was born in Brown County and attended school in Bangs. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Okinawa and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a graduate of the John Sealy School of Radiology in Galveston. He moved to Abilene in 1952 and began working for Hendrick Hospital, where he worked until his retirement in 1978 as Director of the Radiology Department and Director of the School of Radiology. He was a member of the Crescent Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Irma Bull of Abilene; one daughter, Shirley Hamilton of Austin; two sons, Eddie Bull Jr. of Dallas and John Phillip Bull of Austin; two sisters, Bessie Balou of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Mallie Crawford of Bryan; one brother; Kenneth Bull of Rochelle; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
