Eva Mae Taggart
MONAHANS — Eva Mae Taggart, 90, died Friday in Abilene. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Monahans First Baptist Church with Ken Andress officiating. Burial will be in Monahans Cemetery, directed by Harkey Funeral Home of Monahans.
Mrs. Taggart was born in Rotan and taught school in Sylvester and the Dal community. She married her husband, Chester, in 1933, in Rotan and moved to Ward County in 1936, where she taught privated piano for more than 40 years. The couple moved to Abilene in 1995.
Survivors include her husband, Chester of Abilene and sons Dean of Abilene, Don of San Antonio.

Vera Zona Marshall Nelson
Vera Zona Marshall Nelson, 98, of Abilene and formerly of Clyde and Winters, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Clyde Cemetery with the Rev. Don Roath officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Nelson was born in Clyde and attended school in Dallas. She was a Southwestern Bell Telephone operator in Clyde for six years. She moved to Abilene in 1997 and was a member of Winters United Methodist Church. She married Ewing Sanders Nelson Sr. in 1920 in Post; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Ewing S. Nelson Jr. of Abilene and Clinton Nelson of Midland; one daughter, Zona Phillips of Tehama, Calif.; two sisters, Artie E. Young of Lubbock and Gladys Demmis of Dallas; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Wednesday until departing for graveside services.

Rachel Baggett
Rachel A. Baggett, 98, of Abilene died Monday at a local nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Ronnie Newton and Dr. Tom Thomson officiating. Burial will be in Gunsight Cemetery in Stephens County.
Mrs. Baggett was born and attended school in Gunsight and moved to Abilene from Gunsight in 1923. She graduated from Draughan’s Business College and was a bookkeeper, working for several pioneer doctors for 30 years. She worked for Pathology Consultants for 10 years before retiring. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was active with Hamby United Methodist Church. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 30, and was a volunteer for Rose Park Senior Citizens for 15 years. She was a member of The Cooties and the auxiliaries of Veterans of Foreign Wars, World War I, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. She was the widow of Arthur J. Baggett and Andrew Urban.
Survivors include one son, Mack Baggett; two stepsons, Charles Urban and Andrew Urban Jr.; two grandsons, two great-grandsons and six nieces and nephews.

Grover Edward ‘Buddy’ Swinson
Grover Edward “Buddy” Swinson, 79, of Abilene died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy. 277 South, with the Rev. Clayton Pennington officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Swinson was born in Eastland County and attended schools at Duster and Sipe Springs in Comanche County. He moved to Abilene from Comanche County in 1941 and was a retired shop foreman and rancher. He was a U.S. Army Medical Corps veteran of World War II. He married Lois Frances Langston in 1939 in May.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one daughter, Frances M. Arnold of Watkinsville, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Falcon Garnett
Falcon S. Garnett, 72, of Abilene died Saturday at a local hospital.
Private graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Buffalo Gap Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Bush officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Garnett was born in Mount Sharp (Hays County) and moved to Abilene in 1950. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He married Deborah Lynn Loren in 1984 in Abilene.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; and two daughters, Jenna Garnett and Jessica Garnett, both of Abilene.

Maj. (ret) Gary Morris
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Maj. (ret) Gary R. Morris, 63, of Round Rock, formerly of Abilene and Kansas City, died Thursday after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Mount Moriah Cemetery, directed by Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home.
Maj. Morris graduated from Southeast High School in Kansas City and the University of Arkansas. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Pat (Cranor) Morris; six children, Phil Morris, Dee Brink, Eulene Walker, Melinda Breeding, Robert Morris and Carol Suckow; three sisters, Virginia Morrison of Sun Lakes, Ariz., Charlene Conrad of Overland Park, Kan., and Linda Blair of Knoxville, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren.

Selma Fay Hood
Selma Fay Hood, 73, of Abilene died Monday in Abilene.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Rowland Gregory officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Hood was born in Sidney, Ark., and had lived in Abilene since 1930. She had been a bookkeeper for several Abilene oil companies and was employed by the Minter estate at the time of her death. She graduated from Abilene High Schoolin1943 and was a member of University Baptist Church. She was a former member of Desk & Derrick, Abilene Bowling Association and A.A.R.P.
Survivors include two brothers, Darrell Hood of Caldwell and Maurice Hood of Midland; one sister, Julie Stefaniak of Sherwood, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Coy Sims
CLEBURNE — Coy A. Sims, 78, died Friday in Cleburne.
Services were Monday at First Baptist Church. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Abilene, directed by Martin’s Funeral Home. Dr. Daniel Crosby and the Revs. Dan Burt and Robert Whitehead officiated.
Mr. Sims was born in Batesville, Ark., and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a major. He was a minister of music and education and was employed by Martin’s Funeral Home for 13 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Mary Jane Sage in 1944 in Abilene.
Survivors include his wife, of Cleburne; two daughters, Sylvia Sims of Cleburne and Shirley Anderson of Abilene; two sons, Mark Sims of Cleburne and James Sims of Arlington; and one granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to the Music and Education Department, First Baptist Church, 105 E. Willingham, Cleburne 6031.
The family will be at First Baptist Church chapel from 2-3 p.m. today.

Bobby McLain Sr.
GRAPEVINE — Bobby J. McLain Sr., 74, a retired marble mason, died Saturday at a Fort Worth hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Church of Christ in Rule. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery in Rochester, directed by J.E. Foust & Son Funeral Home.
Mr. McLain was born in Haskell.
Survivors include his wife, Dela McLain of Grapevine; two sons, Bobby McLain Jr. of Grapevine and Pat McLain of Irving; one brother, Orion McLain of Wiley; three stepchildren, Darlene McKinley of Grapevine, Buddy Tibbets of Haskell and Travis Tibbets of Elliston, Va.; one granddaughter and 14 step-grandchildren.

Jode Duane Walker
WINTERS — Jode Duane Walker, 25, of San Angelo and formerly of Wingate, died Monday at a San Angelo hospital after a wake boarding accident Sunday.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Scooter McCurdy of San Angelo officiating. Burial will be in Shep Cemetery, directed by Winters Funeral Home.
Mr. Walker was born in Abilene and lived in Wingate all his life. He graduated from Winters High School in 1992 and was employed by Case, Inc. in San Angelo. He attended Glen Meadows Baptist Church in San Angelo. He married Michele Lee York in 1998 in San Angelo.
Survivors include his wife, of San Angelo; two children, Lindsey York and Dalton York, both of San Angelo; his father and stepmother, Jerrell and Shirley Walker of Wingate; his mother, Jane Bryan of Bronte; grandparents Nan Bryan of Athens and Bernice Ferguson of Burleson; one brother, Bill Wayne Walker of Winters; three sisters, Jill McMurray of DeSoto and Rita Lowry and Sandy King, both of Ballinger; and numerous other relatives.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
The family will be at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
