Viola Wilson
Viola Wilson, 95, a longtime Abilene resident, died Friday at a local care center.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 2 in Hamby Cemetery with Johnny Snow officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Lawn and attended school in Cedar Gap. She moved to Abilene in 1928. She was the widow of Charlie Wilson, whom she married on Sept. 5, 1921 in Goldsboro. She was a retired LVN and had worked at the Stewart Nursing Home in Abilene for 20 years. She was a member of the 11th and Willis Church of Christ.
Survivors include one sister, Della Baker of Abilene; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including Cindy Wise, Shirley Wheless, Margie Morley, and Alton Baker, all of Abilene.

Richard O. Counts
MIDLAND - Richard O. Counts, 82, died Friday in a local hospital.
Private services will be at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel in Abilene with burial in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Counts was born in Winters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Shirley Sue Hartley in 1957 in Lovington, N.M. He was self-employed and had ranched in Abilene as well as owning and racing horses and being involved in the restaurant and oil business. He had taught at the Gail Business College.
Survivors include his wife of Midland; two daughters, Connie Zulaica of San Antonio and Sherrie Counts of Midland; two sons, Richard C. Counts of Okla. and David Counts of Calif.; two sisters, Connie Canter and Hazel Lawless, both of Abilene; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Greater West Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer Association of Midland, P.O. box 3389, Midland, TX 79702 or any "for life" organization.

Rudy Sauceda
Rudy Sauceda, 74, of Abilene, died Friday in a local hospital.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, August 2, at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. David Cason officiating. His body will be cremated.
Mr. Sauceda was born in Detroit, MI, and he graduated from high school in Chicago. He was a graduate of Craten University in Nebraska. He was the widow of Effie Sauceda. He was retired from the U.S. Army and the Army Air Force Exchange Service. He had moved back to Abilene four years ago.
He is survived by close friend, Hazelle Hodges of Abilene.

Samuel L. 'Sonny' Look
BROWNWOOD - Samuel L. "Sonny" Look, 45, died Thursday at his home after a brief illness.
His body will be cremated and no services are planned. Arrangements were by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Survivors include companion, Jami Pereida of Brownwood; one son, Randy Johnson of Leslie, MI; four sisters, Connie Dunsmore of Howell, MI, Cindy Glenn of Dansville, MI, and Charlene Nelson and Chery Moran, both of Webberville, MI; and one grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

John Adam Barnes
BROWNWOOD - John Adam Barnes, 87, died Thursday in a local nursing home.
The body will be cremated and no services are planned. Arrangements were by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mr. Barnes was born in Dallas. He was the widower of Hillevi Munson Barnes, whom he married in 1940 in Texarkana. He moved to Brownwood in 1996. He was a farmer and a Methodist.
Survivors include three nephews including Robert Manning of Brownwood.

Billy Payton Snow
Billy Payton Snow, 65, of Hawley died Friday near Brady after a traffic accident.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Terrace Cemetery in Post with Bill Swindler officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Snow was born in Ireland, Tex., and graduated from high school in Post. He moved to Hawley from Michigan in 1967 and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years. He was maintenance foreman for the carpenter shop at Abilene State School for 17 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of Hodges Baptist Church. He married Onella Dean Shedd in 1955 in Post.
Survivors include his wife, of Hawley; his mother, Linnie Belle Snow of Brownwood; one son, David A. Snow of Hawley; one daughter, Lee Ann Fay of Hawley; one sister, Ruth Hardy of Brownwood; and four grandchildren.

Ladell Key
RISING STAR — Ladell Key died Friday at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church with Terry Simmons officiating. Burial will be in May Cemetery, directed by Higginbotham Funeral Home.
Mrs. Key was born in Chickasha, Okla., and had lived in Rising Star and May all her life. She was a member of Eastern Star, Senior Citizens and First Baptist Church. She married William “Bill” Key in Coleman; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Dean Key of Levelland and Dale Key of Las Vegas, Nev.; one daughter, Jane Jenkins of Levelland; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Leon Chelf
COLORADO CITY — Leon Chelf, 91, of Fort Worth and formerly of Baird, died Friday at a Fort Worth care center.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Spade Cemetery in Mitchell County with the Rev. Ross Ellis officiating. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Baird with the Rev. Ellis officiating, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Chelf was born in Collin County and lived in Baird for 47 years. He was a retired mechanical supervisor for Union Pacific Railroad and a member of First Baptist Church in Baird. He married Mildred Dickerson in 1950 in Monahans; she preceded him in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Toby Corn of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Ruth Smalley and Ruby Hoerige; two brothers, Bowie Chelf and Joe Chelf; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Bud Carver
KNOX CITY — Bud Carver, 86, died Sunday at his home after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. John Gillispie and Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Carver was born in Comanche County and had lived in Knox County all his life. He was a farmer-rancher and was Knox County Precinct 1 commissioner for 16 years. He was a National Guard veteran of World War II and served on the Knox County appraisal board, was an honorary chapter farmer of FFA and a charter member of Knox City Little League. He was a member of Farmers Home Administration board, Brazos Valley Care Home board, American Legion Carpenter Post and First Baptist Church and was a founding member of the Brazos Valley Rodeo Association. He married Stella Rex in 1934 in Knox City.
Survivors include his wife, of Knox City; one daughter, Barbara Beaver of Lubbock; one sister, Olean Williams of Imperial, Calif.; three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.

Willie ‘Bill’ Nickerson
CROSS PLAINS — Willie “Bill” Nickerson, 63, of the Cottonwood community died Saturday at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cottonwood Baptist Church with Joe Coppinger and Knox Waggoner officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery, directed by Higginbotham Funeral Home.
Mr. Nickerson was born in Madisonville and was a floor mechanic and a member of the Church of Christ. He married Nadine “Dena” Nickerson in 1954 in Houston.
Survivors include his wife, of Cottonwood; two sons, Willie Bufford Nickerson Jr. of Cross Plains and Myrl Glynn Nickerson of San Antonio; three daughters, Kathy June Franke and Dena Jo Hines, both of Clyde, and Connie Jean Potter of Cross Plains; five sisters, Alice Juanita Dial of Dayton, Lila Hogue of Palacios, Betty Jean McDonald of Paris, Tex., Patricia Ann Fuller of Houston and Debra Kay Carlos of Buffalo, Tex.; three brothers, English Lamar Nickerson Jr. of Cleveland, Tex., and Ruben Nickerson and Cecil Earl Nickerson, both of Buffalo; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
