Geraldine 'Jerry' Bishop
BROWNWOOD - Geraldine "Jerry" Bishop, 78, died Tuesday in a Dallas hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Cedar Point Cemetery in Brown County, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bishop was born in Brownfield and was a homemaker. She moved to Brownwood in 1973 from Slaton. She was a member of Austin Avenue Church of Christ and was the widow of Trumon D. Bishop, whom she married on September 2, 1939 in Paducah.
Survivors include one son, T. David Bishop of Knippa; one daughter, Judy Bishop of Bakersfield, Calif.; two brothers, Kenneth Jones of Granbury and Oscar Jones of Marble Falls; two sisters, Juanelle McDaniels of Lubbock and Mary Barron of Lamesa; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Sammy Ray Gary
Sammy Ray Gary, 34, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be Saturday, Aug. 7, at Southwest Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Woodard officiating, directed by Abilene Funeral Home. Burial of the cremains will be at the Encinal Cemetery in Encinal, TX at a later date.
Mr. Gary was born in Freeport and moved to Abilene at a young age. He was a 1983 graduate of Cooper High School. He attended Mechanics T Technical College in Salt Lake City, Utah, and worked as a mechanic for Bob Lloyd's Shell Station. He was a member of Southwest Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Dean Johnson of Abilene; his mother, Vanita Tenery Gary of Abilene; two brothers, Charles H. "Chuck" Gary and Steven "Allen" Gary, both of Venus, TX; companion and caregiver, Nancy Johnson of Abilene; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. at the today at the funeral home.

Martha 'Jane' Miller
Martha "Jane" Miller, 104, of Abilene, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at the North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road, with Dr. David Hamblin and Richard Young officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Ms. Miller was born in Evening Shade, Ark. and came to Texas as a child. She graduated from high school in Hamlin in 1912, and attended Central Nazarene College for two years. She was the widow of W.K. Miller, whom she married on Nov. 26, 1917 in Hamlin. She had lived in Sweetwater and also in Oklahoma City prior to moving to Abilene where she taught china painting in her home. She was a licensed state and nationally accredited floral judge. She was known throughout the southwest for her paintings and in 1967, McMurry College named a scholarship fund in their honor. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Abilene Women's Club.
Survivors include one granddaughter, Exie Carmichael of Austin; and three great grandchildren.

Ruth Allen Josey Taylor Reeves
Services for Ruth Allen Josey Taylor Reeves, 74, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Crossroads Community Church with the Rev. Kevin York officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home of Abilene.
Mrs. Reeves was born in Sylvester. She was a home economics instructor at various levels. She was a member of the Kerrville P.E.O. Chapter, of the Boerne St. Marks Presbyterian Church, and an officer in many organizations nationwide.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Reeves; three sons; one sister; grandchildren; and many other relatives.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Roby Ross
Roby Ross, 95, of Abilene, died Thursday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood with the Rev. Judy Gayles officiating, directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Ms. Ross was born in Belton. She attended Mary Hardin Baylor Junior College and taught school in Bell County for two years. She married John M. Ross on July 18, 1920 in Belton. She lived in Santa Anna until 1941 and then moved to Brownwood. She was a homemaker and a member of the Brownwood First Christian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Gleaton of Abilene; one son, Bill Ross of Austin; one sister, Mildred Knoll of Killeen; one brother Dyess Tatum of Ville Platte, La.; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dewane W. Kelly
Dewane W. Kelly, 68, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy. 277 South with Dr. Cliff Stewart and the Rev. David Cason officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Wolfe Valley Cemetery near Mays, Tx.
Mr. Kelly was born in Chalk and graduated from May High School. He moved to Abilene from Odessa in 1952. He was the widower of Aline Altum Kelly, whom he married on Aug. 7, 1953 in Abilene. He married Barbara Craig on March 31, 1984 in Hamlin. He was a graduate of the Abilene Police Academy and retired in 1986 as Deputy Fire Marshall in arson investigation with the Abilene Fire Department. After retiring, he worked at the Hamlin Herald newspaper and volunteered at Breakfast on Beech Street. He was a member of the First Central Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother, Myrtle V. Kelly of Abilene; one daughter, Debra Froh of Abilene; one stepdaughter, Beth Speak of Minneapolis, MN; two stepsons, Dr. Darrell Craig of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Rick Craig of Hamlin; one sister, Madeliene Copelin of Lockhart; two grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Breakfast on Beech Street, 1420 N. 3rd, Abilene, TX 79601.

T.L. 'Slim' Pitcox
RANGER - T.L. "Slim" Pitcox, 77, died Wednesday at his residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Ranger Mesquite and Rusk Street Church of Christ with Ken Evans officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Ranger.
Mr. Pitcox was born in Ardmore, Okla. and moved to the Brady area as a child. He was raised in Dool and started working on area ranches at the age of eight. He was the widower of Clara Baker Pitcox and later married Nilda Faye Osborn on Dec. 5, 1975 in Stephenville. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked on several ranches throughout Texas until 1965 when he began working as a truck driver for Bob Carroll Construction, retiring after 25 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Eastland County Sheriff's Pose, and the Roaring Ranger Riding Club.
Survivors include his wife of Ranger; one son, Larry Weldon Pitcox of Abilene; three daughters, Judy Oliveira of Van, Elaine Collier of Carlsbad, Tx., and Ruth Richards of Medina; three stepsons, Gary James Osborn of Houston, Ronald Ray Osborn in the U.S. Army, and Rickie Allen Osborn of Fort Worth; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Big Country or the Stephenville Foster Home.

Steve W. Sample
BROWNWOOD - Steve W. Sample, 54, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at the Johnson Funeral Home in San Angelo. Local arrangements were by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mr. Sample was born in Muncie, Ind. and graduated high school in San Angelo. He attended San Angelo College and moved to Brownwood in 1978. He was the owner and operator of the Burger King and Schlotzsky's Deli.
Survivors include two daughters, Tracy Justice of Irving and Dolores Crawford of Abilene; parents, L.E. and Mary Bourland of San Angelo; one sister, Laura Carmichael of San Angelo; and fiancee, Mary Zapata of Brownwood.

C. L. O'Brien
HAMBY - C.L. O'Brien, formerly of Big Spring, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at the Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring with Dr. Claude Craven officiating, directed by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home of Big Spring.
Mr. O'Brien was born in Big Spring, where he attended school and worked for the Cosden Refinery. He married Perla Faye Hunt on May 20, 1950 in Big Spring. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 until 1954. He moved to Hamby in 1974, where he was in the cattle business. He was a member of the Berea Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Hamby; and three nephews, all of Big Spring.
