Jeffery 'Shorty' Ashcraft
BROWNWOOD - Jeffery "Shorty" Ashcraft, 60, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Fairview Cemetery in Grosvenor with Donny Carroll officiating, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Mr. Ashcraft was born in Brownwood, where he lived most of his life. He had served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include twin sons, Billy and Jeffery Ashcraft of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother, Tommie Lentz of Brownwood; one sister, Naomi Hammer of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sammy Ray Gary
Sammy Ray Gary, 34, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Southwest Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Woodard officiating, directed by Abilene Funeral Home. Burial of the cremains will be at the Encinal Cemetery in Encinal, TX at a later date.
Mr. Gary was born in Freeport and moved to Abilene at a young age. He was a 1983 graduate of Cooper High School. He attended Mechanics Technical College in Salt Lake City, Utah, and worked as a mechanic for Bob Lloyd's Shell Station. He was a member of Southwest Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Dean Johnson of Abilene; his mother, Vanita Tenery Gary of Abilene; two brothers, Charles H. "Chuck" Gary and Steven "Allen" Gary, both of Venus, TX; companion and caregiver, Nancy Johnson of Abilene; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

L.D. Seals
BAIRD - L.D. Seals, formerly of Abilene, died Friday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at Broadview Baptist Church with the Rev. David Cason officiating. Burial will be at Belle Plains Cemetery, directed by Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.
Mr. Seals was born in Ballinger. He married Dalphany Warren Seals on Sept. 30, 1950 in Abilene. He worked for Barretts Auto Parts and was a co-owner of C&S Auto Parts in Abilene. After retiring in 1986, he was a rancher. He was a Baptist and a member of the John Sayles Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of Baird; two sons, Sonny Seals of Baird and Charles Seals of Abilene; four sisters, Ollie Holt, Pearl Calvert, LaVada Haupt, and Joy Steelman, all of Odessa; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be sent to the Broadview Baptist Church Building Fund.

Eunice Pearl McLamore
Eunice Pearl McLamore, 75, a lifelong resident of Abilene, died Thursday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. James King officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. McLamore was born in Abilene and worked as a trainer in processing for Mrs. Baird's. She retired in 1985 after a 34-year career. She was a member of Grace Tabernacle and AARP. She was a senior volunteer with R.S.V.P.
Survivors include one daughter, Nona Mae Sellers of Abilene; two brothers, John Meredith of Abilene and James Meredith of Fort Worth; one sister, Ruby Maxwell of Clyde; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8 at the funeral home.

James W. Watson
BROWNWOOD - James W. Watson, 79, died Thursday at his residence.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Heartland Funeral Home in Early with the Rev. Jess Smith officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at Meadow Cemetery in Meadow, Tx. with the Rev. Ken McClung officiating.
Mr. Watson was born in Jemison, Ala. and had lived in Texas most of his life. He was the widower of Adelyne Watson, whom he married on July 3, 1940 in Quanah. In 1982 he moved to Brownwood from Meadow. He married Sylvia Sparks in Brownwood in 1988. He volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center and was a Baptist. He was also a farmer.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Jimmy Watson of Whortonsville, N.C.; one stepson, Vaughn Costa of Brownwood; one daughter, Debbie Wilson of Alvarado; one stepdaughter, Cindy Hitt of Dallas; two brothers, Ralph Watson of Weeki Wachee, Fla. and H.D. Watson of Slaton; one sister, Fay May of Valrico, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Evelyn C. McKinzie
KERRVILLE - Evelyn C. McKinzie, formerly of Abilene, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Glen Rest Cemetery in Kerrville with C.E. Packer, Tim Goode, and Lou Odle officiating, directed by Sizemore Funeral Home of Kerrville.
Mrs. McKinzie was born in Vernon. She graduated from Abilene Christian College and taught school for many years in Odessa before retiring from the El Paso ISD in 1976. She married Joseph Fredrick McKinzie on Nov. 6, 1932 in Altus, Okla. She moved to Ingram in 1976 and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of Ingram; two daughters, Linda McGlathery of Medina and Nancy Sartain of Converse; one son, Joe McKinzie of Houston; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Randy Wilson
CROSS PLAINS - Randy Wilson, 73, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8 at the Cross Plains Cemetery with Wayne Lenz officiating, directed by Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains.
Mr. Wilson was born in Tuscola. He married Mattie Faye Thurman on June 7, 1981. He worked in maintenance and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife of Cross Plains; one sister, Mary Sue Radford of Nacona; and several nieces and nephews.

Claude Frey Zachry
HENRIETTA - Claude Frey Zachry, 89, member of a Clay County pioneer family, died Saturday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at the Henrietta First Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Solesbee and Tim Jones officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, directed by Davis Funeral Home of Henrietta.
Mr. Zachry was born in Henrietta and lived most of his life in Clay County. He married Mary Stuart in Terral, Okla. He had been a rancher, and had operated a grocery store, cotton gin, and a blacksmith shop. He was Precinct 1 County Commissioner for 28 years, and was also on the Stanfield and Henrietta school boards. He served as the president of the Clay County Pioneer Association and attended all 67 of the Pioneer Reunion and Rodeos.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mary Ruth Barrett of Ryan; three sons, Claude "Doodle" Zachry Jr. of Byers, H.C. Zachry of Abilene, and Bob Zachry of Henrietta; one sister, Katherine Rogers of Dallas; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hassie Carmon Weathers
Hassie Carmon Weathers, 95, a longtime resident of Abilene, died Friday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy. 277 South with Dr. Phil Christopher officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Weathers was born in Clyde and moved to Abilene in 1906. She was a 1922 graduate of Abilene High School and was a candy maker at Wes-Tex Candy Company for 42 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of South Side Baptist Church.
Survivors include one niece, Joyce Mundy of Abilene; and two nephews, Dr. John Snow of Baton Rouge, La. and Deward Cook of Grandbury.
