Dorothy Ruth Bridges-Bradley
SWEETWATER - Dorothy Ruth Bridges-Bradley, 74, died Friday.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Mt. Rose Baptist Church in Sweetwater with the Rev. J.W. Hanson officiating. Burial will be in the Sweetwater Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
Mrs. Bridges-Bradley was born in Roby. She graduated as Valedictorian from Booker T. Washington High School in Stamford and attended Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, where she graduated in 1946 with a degree in Sociology. She also took classes at the University of Washington in Spokane and the University of Denver. She taught in the Sweetwater Independent School District for 32 years and was the first black teacher integrated into the school district. She also taught special education classes. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and was a member of Mt. Rose Baptist Church where she played for the Youth Choir. She married Milton George Bradley on Oct. 22, 1954.
Survivors include her husband of Sweetwater; one daughter, Guinevere Bradley-White of Fort Worth; one son, Milton Bradley Jr. of Abilene; one brother, Jessie Lee Jordan of San Antonio; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mary E. Daniel
Mary E. Daniel, 77, of Abilene, died Thursday at her home.
Private graveside services will be held at the United Lutheran Cemetery in Gratz, Pa. at a later date. Local arrangements were by Girdner-Brown Funeral Home of Abilene.
Mrs. Daniel was born in Gratz where she graduated from high school. She was the widow of Walter Daniel. She had lived in Houston for many years where she worked in a department store. She moved to Abilene in 1996. She was a Baptist.
She is survived by one son, Terry A. Daniel, of Huntington Beach, Calif.

Betty Jean Mays
Betty Jean Mays, 70, of Abilene, died Thursday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, in City Cemetery with Rev. Leroy Eaton officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Mays was born in Abilene and graduated from Sweetwater High School. She had worked most of her life as a bridal consultant for Busch Jewelers in Abilene and Sanger Harris in Dallas. She was a clerk with the Abilene landfill at the time of her retirement. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Mays of Abilene and Richard F. Mays of Burbank, Calif.; one niece; and one nephew.

Jessie Odell Golson
CLYDE - Jessie Odell Golson, 83, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Cross Plains with Ronnie Timms officiating. Burial will be in the Burkett Cemetery.
Mr. Golson was born in Brown County. He was the widower of Willie Loreta Lee Golson, whom he married on Oct. 9, 1934 in Baird. He worked in the oil fields and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Tony Glen Golson; three daughters, Venita Jo Bell of Clyde, and Vondell Caldwell and Betty Lou Lord, both of Abilene; one brother, R. H. "Pete: Golson of Cross Plains; and 10 grandchildren.

Celestina Wright
BROWNWOOD - Celestina Wright, 59, died Saturday at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early with Homero Esquivel officiating. Burial will be in the Greenleaf Cemetery.
Mrs. Wright was born in Ojinaga, Mexico and attended school there. She married David C. Wright on Feb. 12, 1969 in Carlsbad, N.M. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kingdom Hall Church in Brownwood.
Survivors include her husband of Brownwood; one daughter, Belinda Allen of Brownwood; three brothers, Roberto Carrasco of Lubbock, and Lolo Gonzalez and Apolinar Gonzalez, both of Mexico; and one grandchild.

Billy Lee Beaver
Billy Lee Beaver, 43, of Abilene, died Friday.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Trent Cemetery in Trent, Tx. with Larry Gill officiating, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel.
Mr. Beaver was born in Merkel and attended school in Trent. He married Cynthia Gutierrez in Abilene. He worked for Cal-Tex at Trent, the City of Merkel and Contract Paving. He was a custodian at Abilene Christian University. He worked with electronics and as a mechanic.
Survivors include his wife of Abilene; two sons, Billy Jerome Beaver and Marcus Jerome Gill, both of Abilene; one stepson, Shannon Fulbright of Abilene; six daughters, Donnetta Walker, Tamica Watkins, Glenda Gutierrez, Barbara Beaver, Cassandra Beaver, and Sarah Beaver, all of Abilene; two stepdaughters, Tiffany Fulbright and Ashley Fulbright, both of Abilene; five brothers, Johnny E. Beaver Jr. of Sherman, Herbert R. Beaver of Abilene, Gilbert R. Beaver of Tye, Richard Beaver of Trent, and Benjamin Beaver of Fort Worth; one sister, Bertha Turner of Abilene; and nine grandchildren.

Ruby Frances Harris Spencer
IRVING - Ruby Frances Harris Spencer, 95, formerly of Cross Plains, died Saturday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today at the Ross Cemetery in Baird, directed by Parker Funeral Home of Baird.
Mrs. Spencer was born in Callahan County and lived all her life in Cross Plains. She moved to Irving 11 years ago. She was the widow of Vernon Spencer, whom she married on Aug. 7, 1928 in Coleman County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Cross Plains United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Frances Ann Coffey of Irving; one brother, Tommy Harris of Cross Plains; one sister, Martha Cavanaugh of San Angelo; one grandchild; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Etta Miller
COMANCHE — Mary Etta Miller, 99, of Gustine died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Hall & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Longoria officiating. Burial will be in Hazel Dell Community Cemetery.
Mrs. Miller was born in Bangs and had lived in Gustine for 76 years. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married Alton Davis Miller in 1920; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, David Marion Miller and Jessie Alton “Junior” Miller of Gustine; one daughter, Peggy Ann Bartlett of El Paso; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ike Acklin
ANSON — Ike D. Acklin, 80, died Saturday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Anson Church of Christ with Pete Lollar and Scott Self officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home.
Mr. Acklin was born in Cleburne and moved to Jones County as a child. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a mechanic for Celotex in Hamlin for 17 years. He was a groundskeeper for Anson Golf Club for 11 years and was a member of Anson Church of Christ. He married Ione Watts in 1940 in Hamlin.
Survivors include his wife, of Anson; four sons, Wesley Acklin of Clyde, Billy Acklin of Tennessee, Ricky Acklin of Montana and Mike Acklin of Junction; three daughters, Vickie Warner of Dallas and Lana Scifers and Paula Brzozowski, both of Hamlin; one sister, Clemmer Turner; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mary Catherine Lange
RANGER — Mary Catherine Lange, 77, formerly of Crane, died Sunday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nathan Tucker officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ben Macklin. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Lange was born in Marlin and moved to McCamey as a child. She lived in Crane from 1948-1978 and was active in First Baptist Church and Rebekah Lodge, where she was a member for more than 50 years. She moved to Ranger in 1978 and was active in Ranger Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and New Era Club and was a supporter of Ranger Ex’es Association and Big Country CB Club and React Group. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She married Hammon Carrol Lange in McCamey in 1937; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Lillian Hood of Brownwood and Carolyn Brown of Ranger; three brothers, Harvey Brown of Leeville, Lee Donald Brown of Monahans and Lloyd Brown of Westland, Mich.; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
