SWEETWATER — Carlos A. Phemister, 89, died Wednesday at his home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Fluitt officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.
Mr. Phemister was born in Gainesville and retired as a salesman and distributor from Burns Oil Co. He then worked as a shoe shiner at Wayne’s Barber Shop for six years. He was a deacon for many years at Lamar Street Church of Christ and was the widower of Ozell Bishop Phemister, whom he married in 1938 in Haskell.
Survivors include two daughters, Mattie Lincoln and Ruidoso, N.M., and Winnie Brock of Colleyville; one brother, Hugh Phemister of Montague; two sisters, Edith Davis of Abilene and Helen Boykin of Weinert; and four grandchildren.

Dorothy Tinsley
Longtime Sweetwater resident
SWEETWATER — Dorothy Tinsley, 81, died Tuesday in an Abilene care center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Dr. Joel McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.
Mrs. Tinsley was born in Bowerston, Ohio, and was a homemaker. She moved to Sweetwater in 1954. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Harold Tinsley, whom she married in 1939 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Bromley of Sweetwater and Bonnie Linden of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; one son, William “Bill” Tinsley of Atlanta; two brothers, Jack Host of Michigan and Ralph Host of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ora Bloodworth
Former Mitchell County resident
COLORADO CITY — Ora Bloodworth, 102, formerly of Mitchell County, died Wednesday in a Midland care center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Charles Day and Joe Allen officiating. Burial will be in Colorado City Cemetery.
Mrs. Bloodworth was born in Many, La., and moved in 1907 to Mitchell County, where she lived most of her life. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Avenue D Baptist Church in Snyder and was the widow of George Arthur Bloodworth, whom she married in 1912 in Colorado City.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Bloodworth of Pipe Creek and Doug Bloodworth of Palmetto, Fla.; four daughters, Ruth Bloodworth and Billie Harris, both of Granbury, Nell Toombs of Odessa and Geneva Lewis of Burleson; one sister, Ada McArthur; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to Arthritis Foundation, Northwest Texas Chapter, 3001 W. 5th Street, Fort Worth 76107; or a favorite charity.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

J.M. Kropp
U.S. Army veteran
SWEETWATER — J.M. Kropp, 74, died Wednesday in a local care center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Keith Clifton officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Sweetwater Cemetery.
Mr. Kropp was born in Azle and served in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Japan. He worked at Sweetwater Cotton Oil Mill for several years and lived in Las Vegas, Nev. from 1963-74. He retired from a magnesium company and then returned to Sweetwater. He was the widower of Juanita Gillespie Kropp, whom he married in 1944 in Sweetwater.
Survivors include one son, Gene Kropp of Sweetwater; two daughters, Joanna Rash of Tustin, Calif., and Ann Kropp of Sacramento, Calif.; one brother and two sisters; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Martin Barrera

COLORADO CITY — Martin Barrera, 90, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Mass will be said at 4 p.m. today in St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Colorado City Cemetery, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Barrera was born in Del Rio and moved to Colorado City in 1928. He retired as a farmer and Colorado City school employee. He was the widower of Jovita Garcia Barrera, whom he married in 1928 in Snyder.
Survivors include one son, Daniel Barrera of Colorado City; four daughters, Aurora Rocha, Oralia Pineda and Dora Alvarez, all of Colorado City, and Amelia Noriaga of Austin; 26 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Ray Shinn
Former service station owner
BANGS — Ray L. Shinn, 70, died Wednesday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Bangs Church of Christ with Michael Light officiating. Burial will be in Bangs Cemetery, directed by Bangs Funeral Home.
Mr. Shinn was born in Oklahoma City and lived in Odessa for many years. He married Doria Irene Early in 1960 in Odessa. He worked as a chemical plant laboratory technician and also owned and operated a Chevron service station in Odessa until retiring. He moved to Bangs in 1993 from Odessa and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, of Bangs; two sons, Gary Shinn of Odessa and Barry Horesman of Midland; one daughter, Carolyn Wilkerson of Odessa; seven grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

CISCO — Benjamin “Ben” Bacon, 12, died Tuesday from injuries received in an accident.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Franklin Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, directed by Chambers-Wilcox Funeral Directors.
Benjamin was born in Breckenridge and attended school in Cisco. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Mike and Laurna Bacon of Cisco; two brothers, Cory Bacon and Joseph Bacon, both of Cisco; his paternal grandparents, Billy and Polly Bacon of Cisco; his maternal grandmother, Helen Gage of Cisco; three aunts and two uncles; eight cousins; and many other relatives.

Hollyce Rucker McCraw, 75, of Houston and formerly of Abilene, died Thursday in a Houston hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. H.B. Terry officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Mrs. McCraw was born in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School in 1939. She retired as a bank officer, having worked for Interfirst for 23 years and M-Bank for seven years. She moved to Houston in 1990. She was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and was the widow of W.P. "Pete" McCraw, whom she married in 1940 in Abilene.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Evans and Sherry Wilson, both of Houston; one brother, Joe Truett Rucker of Connecticut; two sisters, Marjorie Ball of Austin and Jean Fallen of Manassas, Va.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

ODESSA - Jerry Hollis Gardiner, 44, formerly of Abilene, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery in Abilene with the Rev. Ronnie Newton officiating, directed by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Mr. Gardiner was born in Abilene and moved to Odessa in 1982 from Lubbock. He married Carol Lawson in 1983 in Odessa and worked for Texas Industrial.
Survivors include his wife, of Odessa; his parents, Grant Gardiner of Lubbock and Wanda Cate of Abilene; two brothers, Grant Gardiner Jr. of Hamby and Terry Gardiner of Abilene; one sister, Susan Campbell of Dallas; five nieces and one nephew; one aunt; and one great-aunt.
