Isabel Helms
BAIRD - Isabel M. Helms, 93, died Sunday at an Abilene hospital after a brief illness.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Ross Cemetery Annex with the Rev. Dixie Robertson officiating, directed by Parker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Helms was born in Gonzales County and moved to Baird from Harker Heights in 1972. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a Gold Star Mother during the Korean Conflict. She married Charles Marek in 1924 in Texas. She married Roy Helms in 1944 in Texas.
Survivors include one son, Charles Marek Jr. of Baird; two grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

Neva Mooney
BROWNWOOD - Neva Mooney, 72, died Monday at a local nursing home after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Early with Benny Allcorn and the Revs. John Beckling and Lynn Starnes officiating. Burial will be in Coleman City Cemetery in Coleman, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mrs. Mooney was born in Brownwood, where she attended school. She was a homemaker and had worked for Woodland Heights Day Care Center and done private baby sitting in her home. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Early and was active in United Methodist Women and Church Women United. She married Jack Mooney in 1948 in Brownwood; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Patrick "Pat" Mooney of Early; two daughters, Susan Sabino of San Antonio and Karen Wesson of Wylie; and 12 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Early Building Fund, Early TX 76802.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8 today.

Manuel Gonzales
Civil service employee
Manuel S. Gonzales, 80, died Monday in a local hospital.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today in North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Jesse Gonzales officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Gonzales was born in Abilene, where he grew up, and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He received a Purple Heart and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal with two bronze stars. He worked in civil service at Dyess Air Force Base for several years until retiring in the early 1980s.
Survivors include one sister, Alice Carrillo of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews, including Tom Carrillo of Los Angeles.

Billie Lee Moore
Pest control company owner
CLYDE - Billie Lee Moore, 59, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Masonic Cemetery in Abilene with Ross Ellis officiating, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.
Mr. Moore was born in Abilene and worked for Wilson Spraying Service in Breckenridge for three years and Lester Humphrey Pest Control in Abilene for 26 years. He married Mary Gaines in 1973 in Clyde. He moved to Clyde in 1985 from Abilene and owned and operated Moore's Pest Control. He was a member of Callahan County Riding Club and Friendship Baptist Church in Abilene.
Survivors include his wife, of Clyde; one son, Gary Bill Moore of Sturgeon, Mo.; three daughters, Sherry Lee Cooper of California, Terry Denise Moore of Fort Worth and Johnnie Malene Moore of Austin; one stepson, Ernest Butler of Abilene; five stepdaughters, Renee Bilik of Las Vegas, Nev., Julia Butler of Abilene, Vickie Butler of Hawley, and Marion Dickie and Barbara Dickie, both of Austin; two sisters, Martha Davis and Mary Handy, both of Clyde; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Howard George
Longtime Nugent resident
Howard C. George, 61, of Nugent, died Sunday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Rodney George officiating, directed by Abilene Funeral Home, 3349 N. 12th.
Mr. George was born in Tennessee and was a farmer. He lived both in Casa Grande, Ariz., and Nugent since 1979. He was a Pentecostal.
Survivors include two daughters, Valarie Kellum of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Tammy George of London, Ky.; two brothers, James George and John George, both of Nugent; one sister, Sharron Crawford of Nugent; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Oscar Reed Sr.
Retired school teacher
VILLE PLATTE, La. - Oscar E. Reed Sr., 86, father of an Abilene resident, died Monday at his home after a long illness.
Mass will be said at 11 a.m. today in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Jules Speyer officiating. Burial will be in Evangeline Memorial Park, directed by Ardoin Funeral Home.
Mr. Reed was born in Ville Platte and graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now University of Southwestern Louisiana, in Lafayette and Louisiana State University. He married his wife in 1936 and lived in Basile, La. He taught school for 40 years, including 30 as an agriculture teacher at Basile High School, until retiring in 1973. He then returned to Ville Platte, where he visited patients at Humana Hospital for five years until his health failed. He was an usher at St. Augustine Catholic Church for many years in Basile, La., and was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel V. Reed of Ville Platte; six sons, Dr. Dale Reed of Ville Platte, Kenneth Reed of Abilene, Oscar Reed Jr. and Dr. Donald Reed, both of Lafayette, La., Andrew Reed of Morgan City, La., and Ronald Reed of Carencro, La.; one daughter, Janice Foret of Lafayette, La.; one sister, Louise R. LaFleur of Ville Platte; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Alline Wade
Former Brown County resident
BROWNWOOD - Alline Wade, 81, of Amarillo and formerly of Brown County, died Monday in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jack Smith officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Wade was born in Ebony in Mills County and was a homemaker. She moved to Amarillo in 1997. She was a member of Brownwood First Baptist Church. She attended First Presbyterian Church in Canyon and was the widow of Alfred Norval Wade, whom she married in 1938 in Brown County.
Survivors include one son, Ronald N. Wade of Apple Valley, Calif.; two daughters, Dr. Patricia Wiles of Amarillo and Joanna Wade of Columbia, Md.; one sister, Joyce Allen of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday in the funeral home.

Opal Irene Morris
Retired school teacher
EASTLAND - Opal Irene Morris, 92, died Monday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Bakker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marc Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Eastland Cemetery.
Ms. Morris was born in Carbon and graduated from Carbon High School, North Texas State Teachers College and Hardin-Simmons University. She was an elementary school teacher for 33 years. She taught in Carbon, Rock Springs, Agua Dulce, Throckmorton, O'Donnell and Albany until retiring. She moved to Eastland in 1971. She was a life member of Texas State Teachers Association and was a member of Suzannah Wesley Class at First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Estalee Morris of Mexia; one brother, Guy Morris of Eastland; and seven cousins.
Visitation will be from 5-6:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Vernon Prater
Retired train engineer
BROWNWOOD - Vernon Prater, 90, locomotive engineer for Santa Fe Railroad for 30 years until retiring in 1974, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alan Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Prater was born in Sweetwater and grew up in Cross Cut. He moved to Brownwood in 1928 and served with the U.S. Navy. He helped construct Lake Brownwood Dam. He was a member of United Transportation Union, Knights of Pythias and Southside Baptist Church, and was the widower of Carolyn Bradstreet Prater, whom he married in 1934 in Brownwood.
Survivors include one son, James Prater of Brownwood; one daughter, Norma Wilck of Rockwall; two brothers, John Earnest Prater and Herman Prater, both of Brownwood; one sister, Bonnie Triplitt of Brownwood; three grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
