BROWNWOOD - Carl C. Greer, 86, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Alvis Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Greer was born in Zephyr and married Joyce Edmondson in 1933 in Mullin. He moved to Brownwood in 1936 and retired as chief engineer at Howard Payne University in 1984. He was a member of Brady Avenue Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; two daughters, Lanita Eberhardt of Austin and Carleen Modawell of Bangs; one son, Mike Greer of Baytown; one brother, Earl Greer of Brownwood; one sister, Bertha Hoover of Brownwood; 10 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

John Gus Schaffrina
Longtime Winters resident
WINTERS - John Gus Schaffrina, 79, died Tuesday at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Winters Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Roath officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
Mr. Schaffrina was born in Callahan County and graduated from Baird High School. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II. He lived in Baird and farmed in Callahan County until moving to Winters in 1967. He worked for Alderman-Cave Milling and Grain Co. He then became self-employed in welding construction and repair. He was a life member of American Legion. He was a Methodist and was the widower of Beulah Marie Nelson Schaffrina, whom he married in 1940.
Survivors include three sons, David Schaffrina of El Paso, Don Schaffrina of Odessa and Carl Schaffrina of El Cajon, Calif.; two daughters, Jean Lafair of Winters and Laura Clepper of Midland; one brother, James Schaffrina of Baird; two sisters, Dorothy Kimbrough of Bluff Dale and Anna Leslie of Spring; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Ila Kerbow
Retired school cafeteria worker
BROWNWOOD - Ila V. Kerbow, 90, of Fort Worth and formerly of Brownwood, died Tuesday at her home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Eastlawn Memorial Park with the Revs. Billy Camp and R.J. Elkins officiating, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Kerbow was born in Stephenville and moved to Brownwood in 1924. She retired as a lunch room worker from the Brownwood school district. She moved to Fort Worth in 1996. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Brownwood and was the widow of Robert Owen Kerbow, whom she married in 1924 in Coleman.
Survivors include one son, Robert E. Kerbow of Brownwood; four daughters, Clydine Roberts, Juanita Anderson and Dorothy Fay Barker, all of Fort Worth, and Ovella Thompson of Garland; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Frederick Holland
Former U.S. State Department employee
Frederick R. Holland, 89, died recently in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with the Rev. Kevin Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Holland was born in Terre Haute, Ind., and married Naja Glumicic in 1963 in Zagreb, Croatia. He worked in Zagreb as a technical assistant in oil production for the U.S. State Department until returning to Abilene in 1969. He then was employed by Dow Chemical for many years and also was an independent consultant for several years. He was a volunteer English teacher at the Abilene Public Library and was a member of the Petroleum Club and Geological Society.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one sister, Jean Francis of Spencerville, Okla.; two daughters, Mary Catherine Leong of Philadelphia and Nancy Holland Mahan of Dallas; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Jimmy Eugene Yarbrough
World War II veteran
CLYDE — Jimmy Eugene Yarbrough, 70, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Cox and the Rev. Knox Waggoner officiating. Burial will be in Clyde Cemetery.
Mr. Yarbrough was born in Rule, where he graduated from high school, and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked as a brick mason and lived in Stamford and Abilene before moving to Clyde. He was the widower of Betty Burnham Yarbrough, whom he married in 1948 in Stamford. He married Mary King Morton in 1991 in Bradshaw.
Survivors include his wife, of Clyde; three daughters, Carol Ashorn and Cathey Love, both of Clyde, and Gail Edwards of Breckenridge; one stepson, Larry Don King of Baird; one stepdaughter, Betty Chaney of Clyde; two sisters, Margurite Martin of Abilene and Sharon Puryear of Clyde; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

MAY — Thelma Arline Miller, 65, of Abilene, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in May Cemetery with the Rev. Ruben Packer officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mrs. Miller was born in Hamlin and lived in Abilene most of her life. She married Fred Eugene Miller in 1952 in Clovis, N.M., and was a homemaker. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, of Abilene; two sons, Randy Miller of Abilene and Charley Miller of Lubbock; one brother, Calvin Miller of Brownwood; two sisters, Jewell Allgood and Mildred Culbreath, both of Abilene; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

B.W. ‘Bill’ Singleton
Railroad signalman
SIDNEY — B.W. “Bill” Singleton, 59, died Tuesday in Big Spring.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with the Rev. R.J. Elkins officiating. The body will be cremated.
Mr. Singleton was born in Novice and served with the U.S. Army. He married Revah Walker in 1964 in Austin. He moved to Sidney in 1975 and worked as a signalman for Union Pacific Railroad.
Survivors include his wife, of Sidney; one son, Jeff Walker of Sidney; three daughters, Marjory Singleton and Rene Cox, both of Brownwood, and Joani Harris of Rising Star; two brothers, Dee Singleton of Lampasas and James “Toby” Singleton of Kempner; two sisters, Juanita Arnold of Lampasas and Ann Kelly of Corpus Christi; 12 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Lifelong Fisher County resident
ROTAN — Ruby Charles Wild, 83, lifelong Fisher County resident, died Wednesday in Denton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Rotan Church of Christ with Mike Dennis and Jack Bruce officiating. Burial will be in Roby Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wild was born in Stamford and owned a flower shop. She was the widow of Alfred Marvin White, whom she married in 1933 in Rotan. She married Charles Wild in 1983 in Lubbock and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, of Rotan; two sons, Fred C. White of Lubbock and Michael A. White of Denton; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Wendell Bailey
Heavy equipment operator
MAY — Wendell Bailey, 75, died Wednesday in a Brownwood hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Rising Star with the Rev. Dennis Hester officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Valley Cemetery.
Mr. Bailey was born in May and lived all his life in the Rising Star-May area. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was the widower of Francis Louise Hester Bailey. He married Jane Knowles in 1984 in Fort Worth and was a member of Christian Scientist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of May; two sons, Dannie Bailey of Austin and Baxter Knowles of Fort Worth; two daughters, Julia Lindley of May and Nancy Knowles of Fort Worth; two sisters, Iris Akin of Fort Worth and Minta Hudson of Lawn; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
