Eddis Lee Hardesty Lyon
Former Merkel resident
MERKEL — Eddis Lee Hardesty Lyon, 81, of San Antonio and formerly of Merkel, died Saturday in a San Antonio hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Jones officiating, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lyon was born in Lueders and moved to Merkel in 1956. She worked as an executive secretary for her husband, John Hardesty, while he was manager of Taylor Telephone Co-Op for 20 years. She was a former member of Fortnightly Study Club. She also was a former member of Merkel First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She moved to San Antonio in 1981 and was a member of PEO Sisterhood and Air Force Village Chapel, both in San Antonio. She was the widow of John Hardesty, whom she married in 1939 in Lueders; and Maj. Clyde Lyon, whom she married in 1981 in Houston.
Survivors include one son, John Hardesty of Houston; one stepson, Jerald Lyon of Houston; one brother, Jack Powell of Franklin, N.C.; and one grandchild.

Daniel Gonzalez
U.S. Army veteran
Daniel S. Gonzalez, 67, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Crescent Heights Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Martinez and Mike Chancellor officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by Girdner-Brown Funeral Home, 111 Elm.
Mr. Gonzalez was born in Slaton and grew up in Snyder and Abilene. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea and worked as a baker and barber. He was a member of The Door Christian Center.
Survivors include three sons, Danny Gonzalez of Weatherford, and Larry Gonzalez and Eddie Gonzalez, both of Abilene; one daughter, Daina Gonzalez of Abilene; three sisters, Ruth Arauza of Abilene, Eva Morin of Corpus Christi and Juanita Cadena of Snyder; six brothers, Hiram Gonzalez of Midland, George Gonzalez and Ismael “Jack” Gonzalez, both of Snyder, Raul “Roy” Gonzalez of Oklahoma City, Adam Gonzalez of Odessa and Easy Arauza of Abilene; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Harold Girdner
Harold A. Girdner, 89, died Tuesday, December 6, 1999 at a local hospital.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at St. James United Methodist Church with Rev. Curtis Cadenhead and Rev. Rob Sledge officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Girdner-Brown Funeral Home.
Mr. Girdner was born in Lambert, Okla. and grew up in Burkburnett. He moved to Abilene in 1930 and married Mary Helen Horn in 1934 at the Heavenly Rest Episcopal Church, when it was at North 3rd and Orange. He was employed by the Texas Coca-Cola Bottling Company for 47 years. After his retirement he served as the business manager at St. Paul United Methodist Church for three years, and was a partner with his son and Kyle Brown in Girdner-Brown Funeral Home.
Mr. Girdner was a member of the Downtown Lion’s Club and was a scout master. He was an organizer and a charter member of Forest Heights United Methodist Church in Lubbock and St. James United Methodist Church in Abilene. Over the years, he held every administrative office in the church. He served the Northwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church as a member of the Conference Finance and Administration Committee. He served the Abilene District on the Area Board of Missions and the Methodist Service Center.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one daughter, Gretchen Girdner Tucker of Abilene; one son, David Girdner, of Abilene; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

James Russell
SWEETWATER — James C. Russell, 90, died Monday, December 6, 1999 at a local hospital.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Lewis Williams officiating.
Mr. Russell was born in Anson and married Dorothy Lord in 1986 in Las Vegas, NV. He was a dry cleaning and laundry foreman in Alaska and was a member of Susitna Lodge #294 in Anchorage, Ala. He was also Master Mason of Lodge No. 571 in Sweetwater and a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lord Russell of Sweetwater; three daughters, Jimmie Lee Jones of Albuquerque, NM, Lela Frances Wright of Anson, Bonnie Jean; one son, Errol Neal Russell of Santa Rosa, Ca.; two step-daughters, Suzanne Pursley of Amarillo, Bobbie Jo McAdams of Justin; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one step granddaughter.

Pearl Allen
Pearl Allen, 96, died Wednesday, December 8, 1999 at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Belmont Baptist Church with Rev. Duane Turner officiating. Burial in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Abilene Funeral Home.
Mrs. Allen was born in Comanche County and married James Allen in 1924 in Hamlin. She moved to Abilene in 1954 from Stamford and was a homemaker and a member of Belmont Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Udale Allen of Giddings; three daughters, Loyle McCoy of Abilene, Connie Harrelson of Mineral Wells, Bobby Hunter of Clyde; one sister, Ray Turner of Burleson; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Belmont Baptist Church or the donor’s favorite charity.

Donald Ham
Donald E. Ham, 68, died Wednesday, December 8, 1999 at a local hospital.
Graveside services are at 4 p.m. Friday at Ham Cemetery, near Lawn, with Rev. Burtis Williams officiating, directed by Community Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Ham was born in Clyde and retired as a mechanic, and later worked at Sears for 18 years.
Survivors include one son, Mark Ham of Rhome; one daughter, Suzann Sharp of Tuscola; five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 -8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Norman Wade ‘Bud’ Davis
Norman Wade “Bud” Davis, 65, died Wednesday, December 8, 1999 at his home.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Redeeming Love Church with Rev. David Wells officiating. Burial in Drummond Cemetery, directed by Community Memorial.
Mr. Davis was born in Gustine and moved to Abilene in 1954 after living in Colorado. He married Callie Oneta Price in 1951 in Abilene and was self employed with Davis Brothers Welding & Lawnmower Repair. He retired from Key City Oil Field as a foreman after working there for over 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; three sons, Jimmy Davis, William Davis, both of Abilene, Norman Davis of Clyde; one daughter, Kathy McDowell of Abilene; two brothers, Paul Davis of View and Tommy Davis of Maryville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild.

Henry ‘Son’ Lee Jr.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Henry “Son” Lee Jr., 71, died December 6, 1999 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Hamlin, Tx., directed by Direct Funeral Services. The body may be viewed from 10:30-1:30 p.m. at the church before the service.
Mr. Lee was born in Cameron.
Survivors include four sons, Henry Carl Lee, Gerald Lee, and Ronald Lee, all of Odessa, Bobby Wayne McGee of Abilene; six daughters, Peggy Willis and Tracy Dowd of Amarillo, Evelyn Lee of Milwaukee, Wis., Debra Jenkins of Snyder, Pamela Lee of Abilene, Kimberly Fuller of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, L.J. Lee of Hamlin, Alfred Lee of Espanola, N.M.; 19 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Arron Gaines
BROWNWOOD — Arron Gaines, 82, died Monday, December 6, 1999 at a local hospital. Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel, burial in Greenleaf Cemetery.
Mr. Gaines was born in Franklin and married Ruby Mae Gaines. He was a retired owner and operator of a Café and lived most of his life in Brownwood.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Mae Gaines of Brownwood; four sons, Jan Brown, Alvin Gaines, Allen Neal Gaines, Lester Gaines, all of Brownwood; one daughter, Ruby Jewel Gaines of Brownwood; one sister, Lucille Richardson of Fort Worth;10 grandchildren; one great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Eva Marie Bills
COLEMAN — Eva Marie Bills, 70, died Monday, December 6, 1999 at a local hospital.
Services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. David Jenkins. The body was cremated.
Ms. Bills was born in Axial, Colo. and grew up in Colorado, Idaho, and Washington. She moved to Coleman in 1977 and was a nurses aide and activities director at Holiday Hill Nursing Home for several years. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald E. Hughes of California, Donald Lee Hughes of Washington, Robert W. Perry of New Mexico; three daughters, Nena Murphy, Roseann Perry, both of Coleman, Patricia Perry of Fort Hall, Idaho; one brother, Sonny Bills; 24 grandchildren; six great grandchildren.
