Elwynn Reddell Roderick
TUSCOLA - Elwynn Reddell Roderick, 79, owner and operator of Elwynn's Beauty Shop for 55 years before retiring in 1992, died Wednesday in an Abilene nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Tuscola Cemetery with Jodie Boren officiating, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home.
Mrs. Roderick was born in Abilene and was a lifelong Tuscola resident. She graduated from Tuscola High School in 1932 and attended Abilene Christian College. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was the widow of Marshall "Rod" Roderick, whom she married in 1935 in Ballinger.
Survivors include one son, Rick Roderick of Austin; two brothers, Mikey Reddell of Voca and David Reddell of Abilene; one sister, Dolores Woodson of Abilene; and four grandchildren.

Bonnie Rains Proffitt
CISCO - Bonnie Rains Proffitt, 68, of San Antonio and formerly of Cisco, died Wednesday in a San Antonio hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Bob Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Mrs. Proffitt was born in Gatesville and also formerly lived in Abilene. She was a homemaker and was a Nazarene.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Andrus of Navasota and Jeanette Proffitt of Jasper; one son, Alan Powell of Petal, Miss.; four sisters, Ruth Jone and Mary Patterson, both of Abilene, Hazel Harris of Amarillo and Betty Medina of Bronx, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Ben Sublett
MERKEL - Ben Sublett, 79, of Katy and formerly of Merkel, died Wednesday in a Katy hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Rose Hill Cemetery with Lon McDonald officiating, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Mr. Sublett was born in Merkel, where he graduated from high school. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and moved from Merkel in 1953. He worked as a business manager and salesman, and moved to Katy in 1990.
Survivors include one son, Joe Ben Sublett of Houston; three daughters, Bobbie Carlile of Conroe, Cherry Sublett of Houston and Brenda Wilson of Katy; two brothers, Jack Sublett of Albuquerque, N.M., and James D. "Jim" Sublett of Centralia, Ill.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Velma Moore Huckaby
BROWNWOOD - Velma Moore Huckaby, 85, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Greenleaf Cemetery, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Huckaby was born in Grosvenor and attended school in Brownwood. She lived in Brownwood for many years and worked as a licensed vocational nurse. She also was a homemaker. She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church and was the widow of Verie H. Huckaby, whom she married in 1927.
Survivors include one son, Don H. Huckaby of Fort Worth; one daughter, Reita N. Hayes of Austin; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Megan Marie Sharp
Megan Marie Sharp, infant daughter of Jackson Sharp and Shannon Adams of Abilene, died Monday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Elmwood Memorial Park with Jack Sharp officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Megan was born in Abilene.
Other survivors include one sister, Breanna Oler of Abilene; her grandparents, Jeannie Adams, Curtis and Glenda Adams, and Jack and Georgette Sharp, all of Abilene; and her great-grandparents, Ruben and Betty Adams, Ilene Witt, and Johnnie Ruth Sharp, all of Abilene.

Wanda Baize Gannaway
Wanda Baize Gannaway, 70, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Paige Baize and Orlon Baize officiating. Burial will be in Hamby Cemetery.
Mrs. Gannaway was born in Tuxedo in Jones County and moved to Abilene in 1939. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1944 and was a homemaker. She moved to Pecos in 1952 and returned to Abilene in 1962. She formerly lived in the Hamby area. She was a member of 19th and Clinton Street Church of Christ and was the widow of Bill Gannaway, whom she married in 1944 in Abilene.
Survivors include one son, Lynn Gannaway of Big Spring; three daughters, Carole Hamilton, Lana Jenkins and Sharon Hale, all of Abilene; three brothers, Audie Baize of Tuxedo, Novel Baize of Baird and Gayle Baize of Coleman; one sister, Grace Box of Pecos; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Big Country, 3113 Oldham Lane, Abilene 79602; or a favorite charity.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Margaret Copenspire
Margaret Copenspire, 86, died Tuesday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Cedar Hill Cemetery with Bill Smith officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Copenspire was born in Pittsburgh and graduated from secretarial school. She moved to Abilene in 1976 from Port Charlotte, Fla., and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 15 years. She was a volunteer at the St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was the widow of Leroy C. Copenspire, whom she married in Baltimore.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Doidge of Abilene; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

John Traylor
BANGS - John W. Traylor, 67, died Monday in a Fort Worth hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Laurel Land Funeral Home Chapel of the Chimes in Fort Worth. Burial will be in Laurel Land Cemetery, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mr. Traylor was born in Gordon in Palo Pinto County and attended school in Fort Worth. He lived in Fort Worth most of his life and worked as a mechanic, carpenter and real estate agent for many years. He recently moved to Bangs and was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Wesley William Traylor and David Howard Traylor, both of Fort Worth; one brother, Don Traylor of Joshua; three sisters, Mary Helen Young of Weatherford, Marjorie Stephens of Bangs and Dorothy Mason of Brownwood; five grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.

Dr. Dan Carnes
MIDLAND - Dr. Dan M. Carnes, 73, stepfather of a Ranger resident, died Monday in a local hospital.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Hope Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Herman officiating. Arrangements were made by Ellis Funeral Home.
Dr. Carnes was born in San Antonio and graduated from Baylor University Dental School. He completed his internship at St. Mary Hospital in San Antonio and, during the Korean War, was chief of oral surgery in Biloxi, Miss. He worked as a dentist in San Antonio and El Paso before operating an office in Midland from 1955-83. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Norma J. Carnes of Midland; one son, Daniel M. Carnes Jr. of Fort Worth; one daughter, Cindy M. Watters of San Antonio; one stepson, Danny R. Meroney of Ranger; one stepdaughter, Linda J. Meroney of Dallas; one sister, Margaret Spence of San Antonio; and three grandchildren.

Harold Gene Collins
BROWNWOOD - Harold Gene Collins, 44, died Monday in a local hospital after a sudden illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Church of the First Newborn near Sulphur, Okla. Burial will be in Dolberg Cemetery. Local arrangements were made by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mr. Collins was born in Wynnewood, Okla., and formerly lived in Oklahoma. He moved to Brownwood in 1991 and worked as a carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia M. Collins of Brownwood; one son, Justin Eugene Collins of Brownwood; one daughter, Shye Denise Ciccone of Mississippi; his parents, Ira Eugene and Mae Ruth Collins of Oklahoma; and two brothers and seven sisters.
