Bryan Paul Buck

IRVING - Bryan Paul Buck, 22, formerly of Abilene, died Friday in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bear Creek Cemetery in Euless, directed by Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home.

Mr. Buck was born in Colorado Springs, Colo., and moved to Irving in 1992. He attended Irving High School.

Survivors include his parents, Donna and Carrol Woods of Irving, and Jesse and Beth Buck of San Angelo; two brothers, Randall Buck of San Angelo and Jonathan Woods of Irving; his grandmother, Imogene Buck of San Angelo; four aunts, uncles and cousins; and two nephews and one niece.

Memorials may be sent to West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene 79605; or United Cerebral Palsy of Metro Dallas, 8802 Harry Hines Blvd, Dallas 75235.

Robert Lee 'Bob' Altum

CISCO - Robert Lee "Bob" Altum, 60, formerly of Hamlin, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Hamlin East Cemetery with the Rev. James Martin officiating, directed by Foster-Adams Funeral Home of Hamlin.

Mr. Altum was born in Hamlin, where he graduated from high school in 1955. He attended Hardin-Simmons University and the University of Texas at Austin, and was a U.S. Army veteran. He lived in Abilene for many years and co-owned V.J. Oil Co. He later worked as a district sales manager for Quaker State Oil Co., and moved to Weatherford in 1988 and Cisco in 1992. He was a member of Breakfast Optimist Club, Interact and Immanuel Baptist Church in Abilene.

Survivors include one daughter, Stacey Dempsey of Abilene; one son, Todd R. Altum of Tuscola; two sisters, Dorthy Pritchard of Hamlin and Adell Treider of Lazbuddie; two brothers, Alfred Altum and Aubrey Altum, both of Abilene; and three grandchildren.

Marvin McKinley Shipp

BURNET - Marvin McKinley Shipp, 63, relative of six Big Country residents, died Wednesday.

Services were held Friday in Burnet First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Owens officiating. Burial was in Post Mountain Cemetery, directed by Edgar Funeral Home.

Mr. Shipp was born in Kent County and served with the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Shipp of Burnet; two daughters, Charlotte Lynn Johnson of Brownwood and Barbara DeAnne Densman of Fort Worth; two sons, Marvin Lyndel Shipp of Tolar and Alan Dewayne Shipp of San Marcos; one sister, Dorothy Faye Walden of Abilene; four brothers, Harvey Lee Shipp of Brownwood, Eugene Shipp of Roby, Floyd Winfred Shipp of Snyder and Andy Shipp of Rotan; and eight grandchildren.

Brooks Middleton

HASKELL - Brooks Middleton, 77, died Friday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Haskell First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Sid Parsley and Jim Turner officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.

Mr. Middleton was born in Haskell County and grew up in Kobb. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and worked as a rancher, mail carrier and Gulf distributor. He was a Haskell city councilman from 1954-60, and was a former Rotarian and Haskell volunteer firefighter. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was the widower of LaVera "Bebe" Riley Middleton, whom he married in 1949 in Rotan.

Survivors include one son, Riley Middleton of Lubbock; one daughter, Nancy Kay Mueller of Abilene; one sister, Elizabeth Stewart of Haskell; one brother, Gentry Middleton of Haskell; and four grandchildren.

J.T. Mahaffey

ROBY - J.T. Mahaffey, 72, lifelong Fisher County resident, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Roby First Baptist Church with Darrell Hart officiating. Burial will be in Roby Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home of Rotan.

Mr. Mahaffey was born in Stonewall County and was a World War II veteran. He was a farmer and was the widower of Mildred Carson Mahaffey, whom he married in 1947 in Fisher County. He married Louise Faught in 1975 in Abilene and was a member of Rotan Veterans of Foreign Wars post, Fisher County RV Club and First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Roby; two sons, Mark Mahaffey of Roby and Rick Mahaffey of Odessa; three stepchildren, Don Myers of Odessa, Philip Cleveland of Palm Bay, Fla., and Annette Hatley of Vernon; four sisters, Helen Overton of Seymour, Christine Gruben of Rotan, Florene Johnson of Stamford and Evalene Scifres of Hamlin; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and six step grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Big Country, 3113 Oldham Lane, Abilene 79602; or West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene 79605.

Harry Gene Miller

GUSTINE - Harry Gene Miller, 70, died Thursday in a Comanche hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Comanche Funeral Home Chapel in Comanche with the Revs. Ronnie Calcote and Gary Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Baggett Cemetery.

Mr. Miller was born in Proctor and married Irene Mangis in 1950 in Clovis, N.M. He worked as a ranch manager and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Miami, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, of Gustine; one son, David Reid Miller of Gustine; one sister, Nell Gunter of Gustine; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Lois Roberts

ROTAN - Lois Roberts, 86, died Friday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Rotan First Baptist Church with the Rev. Werth Mayes officiating. Burial will be in Belvieu Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home.

Mrs. Roberts was born in Royston and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was the widow of Ernest Gabriel Roberts, whom she married in 1931 in Las Cruces, N.M.

Survivors include one sister, Ruth Logan of California; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Clifton George

BROWNWOOD - Clifton O. George, 72, died Thursday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early.

Mr. George was born in Groesbeck and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a cook for many years and moved to Brownwood in 1967 from Germany. He married Janie Carmen Robles in 1970 in Goldthwaite and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; one daughter, Phyllis Cole of Brownwood; one brother, Leonard George of Huntsville; and three grandchildren.

Viola Ollie Blackmon

WINTERS - Viola Ollie Blackmon, 97, died Friday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Winters Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Gayland Broadstreet and J.O. Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Northview Cemetery.

Mrs. Blackmon was born in Georgetown and was a homemaker. She lived in Blanket before moving to Winters in 1940. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and was the widow of Walter Blackmon, whom she married in 1915 in Comanche.

Survivors include one daughter, Lois Clark of Winters; one brother, D.F. Rush of Comanche; one sister, Ada B. Grady of Euless; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mildred Brooks

RANGER - Mildred Brooks, 88, died Wednesday in a Texas City hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Ranger First Baptist Church with the Rev. T. Nathan Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Unity in Palo Pinto County and graduated from Thurber High School. She was a homemaker and worked as a beautician. She returned to Ranger in 1943 and was a member of Woodman Circle and First Baptist Church. She was the widow of H.E. Brooks, whom she married in 1935.

Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Janes of Dickinson; one sister, Anita Davis of Wylie; and several nieces and nephews.
