Cleo Thompson
Cleo Thompson, 92, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Prairie Home Cemetery in Topeka, Kan., with the Rev. Gregory McCrimmon officiating, directed by Parker-Price Mortuary. Local arrangements were handled by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Mrs. Thompson was born in Elmont, Kan., and worked for the state of Kansas for 23 years. She was an Avon representative for 44 years. She retired in 1969 and moved to Abilene in 1987. She was a Methodist and a member of Eastern Star and War Dads in Topeka. She married Alva Ray Thompson in 1928 in Topeka; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Marjorie Winter of Abilene; one sister, Nellie Luse of Olathe, Kan.; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
The body will lie in state today.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-7:30 p.m. today.

Preston Gowens
Preston Gowens, 66, died Sunday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy. 277 South, with the Revs. Richard Green and David Cason officiating. Burial will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.
Mr. Gowens was born in Young County and lived in Abilene 31 years. He was a store manager for Safeway, retiring after 37 years. He later owned Duraclean Carpet Cleaning. He was a Baptist and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He married Bernice Simek in 1958 in Megargel.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; three daughters, Stephanie (Mrs. Dale) Laird of Abilene, Sandra Gowens of Irving and Sheila Gowens of Brownfield; two brothers, Truman Gowens of Graham and W.R. Gowens of Mesquite; one sister, Ruth Lyman of Houston; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1922, Abilene 79604; or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 41, Abilene 79604.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Ernest 'Ernie' Williamson
DALLAS - Ernest L. "Ernie" Williamson, 85, died Saturday in Dallas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Grove Hill Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Summers officiating. Entombment will be in Evergreen Mausoleum.
Mr. Williamson was born in Crandall and was an accountant. He helped organize All States Theaters, Inc., headquartered in Abilene. It was sold to Video Independent Theaters, Inc. in 1964 and he joined that company as treasurer, retiring in 1980. He moved to Dallas in 1990 and was a member of Park Cities Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine; two sons, Donald Williamson of Dallas and David Williamson of Baytown; one grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Richard Gibson
HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Richard Gibson, 79, of Boonsboro, Md., died Saturday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home chapel with Chesley Wooten officiating. Burial will be conducted at a later date.
Mr. Gibson was born in Washington, D.C., and attended Abilene Christian College. He graduated in the first graduating class of Pepperdine University with a bachelor's degree and from Columbia University with a master's degree. He taught school for congressional pages in the 1940s and was a member of 16th and Decatur Street Church of Christ, where he was a deacon for many years. He was involved in many organizations, including Toastmasters International, and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked for the federal government for 43 years, retiring from the Veteran's Administration.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Franklin Gibson of Boonsboro; one son, R. Dale Gibson of Greenbelt, Md.; two brothers, Lucian Franklin of Rockville, Md., and B.M. Franklin of Mason; one sister, Virgie White of Fort Washington, Md.; and numerous other relatives.

The family will be at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Noble Grubbs
FORT WORTH - Noble I. Grubbs, 76, died Sunday at his home after a brief illness.
Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Mass will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, directed by Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home.
Mr. Grubbs was born in Macon County, Ill., and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, I.T.U. and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was in the newspaper business.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Grubbs; three daughters, Linda Powell of Abilene and Anita Moore and Dyane Atwood, both of Fort Worth; three sons, Stephen Grubbs and Michael Grubbs, both of Fort Worth, and David Grubbs of Denton; one sister, Cleta Colson of Valdosta, Ga.; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchidren and nieces and nephews.

Edna Pearl McMillan
COLORADO CITY - Edna Pearl McMillan, 59, died Sunday at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Ted Spear officiating. Burial will be in Handley (Tee-Ville) Cemetery, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. McMillan was born in Big Spring and was a member of First Baptist Church, where she also worked in the church day care. She was a homemaker. She married Weldon McMillan in 1953 in Andrews.
Survivors include her husband, of Colorado City; two daughters, Karalee Fort of Cassville, Mo., and Kristie Carroll of Hawley; five sons, Robert McMillan of Abilene, Kelvin McMillan of Marrietta, Okla., and Karlton McMillan, Klay McMillan and Kraig McMillan, all of Colorado City; three brothers, Wayne Joiner of Bristale, Conn., and Delbert Joiner and Tommy Joiner, both of Colorado City; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

Wendell Ray Conner
HASKELL - Wendell Ray Conner, 61, died Sunday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. J.C. Amburn officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Conner was born in Haskell and worked for Westmore Drilling for 18 years. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church. He married Lawana Mae Allen in 1951 in Haskell.
Survivors include his wife, of Haskell; two daughters, Angelia Skipper of Lubbock and Sherry Lefevre of Stamford; one son, Christopher Conner of Haskell; his mother, Grace Skipworth of Haskell; four sisters, Melba Moeller of San Angelo, Sybil Blackwood of Big Spring, Brenda Lawrence of Abilene and Jeannie Forehand of Haskell; four brothers, Buck Conner and Troy Don Conner, both of Haskell, Kenneth Conner of Abilene and Gary Conner of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Helen Wiseman
TEMPLE - Helen C. Wiseman, 73, died Saturday at a local hospital.
Services were Monday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mrs. Wiseman was born in Haskell and graduated from Haskell High School in 1940. She moved to Temple in 1967 and worked for the Temple College bookstore, retiring in 1988. She married Bill Wiseman in 1941 in Haskell.
Survivors include her husband, of Temple; three daughters, Kay Cheatham of Spring, Debby Trippet of Dallas and Lynne Harris of Salado; two brothers, Gene Coleman of Lubbock and Ronnie Coleman of Anton; two sisters, Marjorie Mathis of Tulsa, Okla., and Norma Kelley of Artesia, N.M.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Emma Hernandez
COLORADO CITY - Emma H. Hernandez, 32, of Lubbock died Sunday in Odessa.
Services were Monday at St. Ann's Catholic Church with the Rev. Ray Wilhelm officiating. Burial was in Mitchell County Cemetery, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Ms. Hernandez was born in Abilene and was a former resident of Colorado City. She was a Catholic and a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Robert Hernandez of Lubbock; her mother, Oralia Hernandez of Odessa; her stepfather, Richard Acuna of Odessa; a grandmother, Manuela Hernandez of Colorado City; two sisters, Eva Cantu of Colorado City and Alta Garcia Hernandez of Lubbock; and one brother, Oscar Hernandez of Big Spring.
