Sarah McCowen
CROSS PLAINS -- Sarah M. McCowen, 84, died Friday.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Chaffin and Bill Reed officiating. Burial will be in Burkett Cemetery.
Mrs. McCowen was born in Brown County and married Burl McCowen in 1936 in Burkett. She worked as a secretary and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Cross Plains; three brothers, Raymond Hounshell of Cisco, Charles Hounshell of Stephenville and Elmer Hounshell of Lake Brownwood; one sister, Evelyn Pitts of Highrolls Mountain Park, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.

Minnie Adkins
BIG SPRING -- Minnie A. Adkins, 82, died Friday in a San Angelo hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Doug Shelley officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Park.
Mrs. Adkins was born in Hamilton and moved to Big Spring in 1946 from Hamilton. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church and was the widow of George L. Adkins, whom she married in 1941 in Hamilton.
Survivors include one daughter, Alvine McCasland of Coleman; two brothers, Walter Speaker and Willie Speaker, both of Big Spring; two sisters, Clara Smith of Salina and Edna Grisham of Moody; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Grace Verlee Brandon
COMANCHE -- Grace Brandon, 70, died Saturday in Granbury.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hall & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jackie Auvenshine officiating. Burial will be in Comanche Gardens of Memory.
Ms. Brandon was born in Detroit, Texas, and moved to Comanche in 1963 from Brownfield. She worked as an antique dealer and was a Baptist.
Survivors include one son, Gary Brandon of Granbury; two brothers, Henry Phillips of Texarkana and Preffie Phillips of Mesquite; one sister, Ceible Gaston of Comanche; and one grandchild.
Memorials may be sent to Community Hospice of Texas, 1000 Summit Ave., Fort Worth 76102.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Raymond Driver
ROBY -- Raymond E. Driver, 82, employed by the Texas Highway Department for 32 years until retiring in 1978, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Weathersbee Funeral Home Chapel in Rotan with the Rev. Travis Monday officiating. Burial will be in Roby Cemetery.
Mr. Driver was born in Kingston, Okla., and moved to Fisher County as a child. He married Voncille Armstrong in 1938 in Sweetwater and served with the U.S. Navy's Seabees during World War II. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and had received the Golden Trowel Award. He also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, of Roby; two sons, Jimmy Driver of Sweetwater and Tommy "Bubba" Driver of Roby; two sisters, Elizabeth Horton of Paris, Texas, and Louise Parham of Roby; one brother, Joe Driver of Roby; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.

Fannie Ragland Bennett
Fannie Ragland Bennett, 100, died Thursday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home Chapel, 1443 N. 2nd, with the Revs. Kathryn Boren and Archie Echols officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. in Burkett Cemetery.
Mrs. Bennett was born in Cross Plains and moved in a covered wagon to Matador in 1915 from Brown County. She was a Methodist and also was a member of Elm Street Church of Christ in Coleman. She was the widow of John C. Ragland, whom she married in 1914; Roy Rice, whom she married in 1945; Will Turner, whom she married in 1953 in Valera; and Roy Bennett, whom she married in 1974.
Survivors include two sons, V.L. Ragland of Abilene and John J. Ragland of Houston; two daughters, Evelyn Henderson of Weatherford and Ruby Chambers of Westbrook; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; six stepchildren; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth Loyd
CLYDE -- Ruth E. Loyd, 71, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Hamby Cemetery with the Rev. Rufus Wilson officiating, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Loyd was born in Taylor County near Abilene and worked as an elderly caregiver. She moved to Clyde in 1989 from Grants, N.M. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Carrol Oliver Loyd, whom she married in 1946 in Miami, Ariz.
Survivors include one son, James Loyd of Baird; and one brother, Richard Morris Massey of Hawley.

Vera Moore Wilson
SEYMOUR -- Vera Moore Wilson, 92, formerly of Taylor County, died Thursday in Early.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Seymour Church of Christ with Bud Branson officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, directed by Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Blair in Taylor County and was a homemaker. She moved in 1928 to Red Springs in Baylor County, where she farmed for many years until moving to Seymour. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was the widow of Jesse B. Wilson, whom she married in 1924 in Abilene.
Survivors include one daughter, Johnnye Sears of Zephyr; one son, Jesse Earl Wilson of Seymour; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Alva 'Peat' Field
BANGS -- Alva "Peat" Field, 92, lifelong Brown County resident, died Friday in a Brownwood nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with the Rev. R.J. Elkins officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Grosvenor.
Mr. Field was born in Grosvenor and was a farmer and rancher. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

James Cheney
SWEETWATER -- James N. Cheney, 77, died Friday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Sweetwater Cemetery with the Rev. David Edwards officiating, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Cheney was born in Mindenmines, Mo., and married Iona Woolsey in 1940 in Lamesa. He moved to Sweetwater in 1950 and was a retired oilfield worker. He was a member of Men's Downtown Bible Class.
Survivors include his wife, of Sweetwater; one son, Tom Cheney of Sweetwater; one sister, Alice Oliver of Enid, Okla.; one brother, Alvin Cheney of Slaton; and two grandchildren.

Sarah Byers Brinkley
COLEMAN -- Sarah Byers Brinkley, 84, died Thursday in a Kerrville nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Robinett officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery, directed by Stevens Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brinkley was born in Coleman, where she lived for many years. She graduated from Coleman High School, John Tarleton College in 1934, and with a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas in 1936. She formerly taught school in Raymondsville and returned to Coleman in 1975. She was a former member of a hospital auxiliary and American Association of Retired Persons. She delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was the widow of Charles B. Brinkley, whom she married in 1938.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Anderson of Kerrville and Catherine Petru of Sugarland; one son, Charles Richard Brinkley of Valencia, Calif.; one sister, Jana Greenway of San Angelo; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
