Charlie Robert 'Bob' Goza Sr.
McALLEN - Charlie Robert "Bob" Goza Sr., 71, formerly of Merkel, died Monday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel. Local arrangements were made by Kreidler Funeral Home.
Mr. Goza was born in Merkel and married B.J. Faulks in 1954. He moved to McAllen in 1962. He worked as an instrument technician for Claxton Music Co. until 1972 and Melhart Music until 1984. He then was self-employed. He was a charter member of National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians Inc. and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, of McAllen; two sons, Gordon "Rocky" Goza of Noblesville, Ind., and Phillip "Rick" Goza of McAllen; three brothers, Frank Goza of San Antonio, Glen Goza of Gladewater and Guy Goza of Arlington; two sisters, Hattie Smithee of Arlington and Pattie White of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two grandchildren; two aunts; and 36 nieces and nephews.

James Richard Ellis
ROSCOE - James Richard Ellis, 76, of Dallas, died Tuesday in a Dallas care center.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Roscoe Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Addington officiating, directed by McCoy Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. July 11 in Cox Chapel of Highland Park Methodist Church in Dallas.
Mr. Ellis was born in Wichita Falls and grew up in Denison. He lived in Dallas most of his life. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a navigator during World War II and married Betty Cooper in 1952 in Dallas. He earned both a bachelor's degree and law degree from Southern Methodist University and worked as an attorney. He was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, Dallas Bar Association and Highland Park Methodist Church in Dallas.
Survivors include his wife, of Dallas; two sons, Robert Brian Ellis of Houston and Dr. Richard Mark Ellis of Killeen; and three grandchildren.

Billie Mahoney
BRECKENRIDGE - Billie Mahoney, 69, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Morehart Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Harper officiating. Burial will be in Breckenridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Mahoney was born in Spearman and attended school in Hardesty, Okla. She lived in Fort Hood and Spearman before returning to Breckenridge in the 1980s. She was a cafeteria worker in the Breckenridge school system until retiring in 1993 and was the widow of Elvis Kenneth Brannan, whom she married in 1946 in Graham.
Survivors include one son, Dwain Brannan of Breckenridge; two daughters, Rachel Brannan of San Marcos and Kay Brannan of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Whitey Jones and Preacher Jones, both of Hardesty, Okla.; three sisters, Oletha Smith of Hardesty, Okla., Oneta Evans of Vidor and Earlene Wyles of Decatur, Ark.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels and left at the funeral home.

Maurice Neeper
ROBY - Maurice Neeper, 85, died Tuesday in a Snyder hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Roby First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mickey Waggoner officiating. Burial will be in Roby Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home of Rotan.
Mr. Neeper was born in Hot Springs County, Ark., and moved to Texas as a child. He farmed, then worked for Fisher County. He also was a water hauler. He lived in California for several years before returning to Texas. He was a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church in Sweetwater and attended Roby First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Janet Harvey of Dallas; and two brothers, Loy "Potsy" Neeper of Snyder and Ben Neeper of Roby.

Bendena Spill Ashburn
WINTERS - Bendena Spill Ashburn, 87, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Winters Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Sam Homsey officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Mrs. Ashburn was born in Winters and worked as a secretary for a cotton gin. She returned to Winters in the 1970s. She was a member of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and was the widow of Ralph Ashburn, whom she married in Casa Grande, Ariz.
Survivors include one stepson, Kempton Ashburn of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and one niece and one nephew.

Bobby Don Sherman
Bobby Don Sherman, 66, of Abilene died Sunday in Abilene.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Tuscola Cemetery with Frankie D. Sherman officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Sherman was born in Paris, Texas, and attended school in Dallas. He moved to Abilene from Dallas 44 years ago and was a retired concrete finisher. He was a member of the Pentecostal church.
Survivors include seven sons, Frankie D. Sherman, James Ray Sherman and Johnny Bob Sherman, all of Abilene, Lloyd Neal Sherman of Houston, Billy Marshall Sherman and Lem Jim Sherman, both of Wichita Falls, and Manson Joe Sherman of Tye; two daughters, Judy Biola Sherman and Mildred Viola Hernandez, both of Tye; two brothers, James Ray Sherman and Alfred Ray Sherman, both of Arlington; one sister, Mildred Sherman of Dallas; 20 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Jack Stantz
Jack L. Stantz, 56, of Abilene died Saturday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy. 277 South, with Chaplain 1st. Lt. John D. Massey officiating. Military graveside services will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.
Mr. Stantz was born in Michigan City, Ind., where he graduated from high school. He retired as a master sergeant after 20 years in the U.S. Air Force in 1979 at Dyess Air Force Base. He worked for Allstar Maintenance and Alliance Properties and was a vice president with Patriot Maintenance, retiring in 1997. He was a Protestant. He married Patricia "Pat" Noel in 1963 in Wichita, Kan.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sons, Robert Griffin of Merkel and Jeffrey Stantz of Abilene; one daughter, Christine Reynolds of Robins AFB, Ga.; one brother, Jimmy Stantz of Michigan City; one sister, Judi Dismore of La Porte, Ind.; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Lydia Garcia
Lydia Garcia, 65, died Monday at a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange, with Alfredo Lopez officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Garcia was a native of San Angelo and grew up in Ballinger before moving to Anson in the early 1950s. She worked for 66 Sirloin Restaurant for 20 years and was a member of Foursquare Church in Abilene.
Survivors include seven sons, Ben Olvera Jr. of Hamlin, Margarito Olvera, Ramero Olvera, David Garcia and Rene Garcia, all of Abilene, Lupe Olvera of Anson and Danny Reyes of California; one daughter, Gloria Flores of Abilene; five sisters, Molly Rodriquez of Abilene, Elida Lozano of Anson, Beatrice De Garza of Ballinger, Carolina Anaya of Lubbock and Mary Escobar of Chicago, Ill.; three brothers, Paul Reyes of Abilene and Cleo Reyes and John Reyes, both of Ballinger; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Bill Hunter
COLEMAN - Bill Hunter, 61, of Burkett died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Hammonds officiating, assisted by the Rev. Wright Price. Burial will be in Burkett Cemetery, directed by Walker Funeral Home.
Mr. Hunter was born in Santa Anna and lived in Coleman County all his life. He was a farmer-rancher and a member of Burkett Baptist Church. He married Shirley Dodson in 1954 in Coleman.
Survivors include his wife, of Burkett; two sons, Ken Hunter of Burkett and Randy Hunter of Abilene; one brother, A.L. "Hanke" Hunter of Crowell; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

B.A. Young
TAHOKA - B.A. Young Jr., 80, died Wednesday in Brownfield.
Services were Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marvin Gregory officiating. Burial was in Tahoka Cemetery, directed by White Funeral Home.
Mr. Young was born in Jones County and attended school in Abilene. He moved to Tahoka in 1938 from Abilene and was a retired farmer and horse trainer. He was a member of Ex-Lynn County Rodeo Association and First United Methodist Church. He married Dorothy Lanell Carter in 1937 in Abilene; she preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Don Young of Plains and Joe Young of Ruidoso Downs, N.M.; one daughter, Pat Williams of Tahoka; two sisters, Rowenna Collins and Lucille Baker, both of Abilene; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
