Veda Benson
BROWNWOOD - Veda Benson, 80, lifelong Brown County resident, died Sunday in a local hospital.
Services were held Tuesday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.J. Elkins officiating. Burial was in Heflin Cemetery in Brown County.
Mrs. Benson was born in Brownwood, where she married Odell Benson in 1941. She was a homemaker and was a Methodist.
Survivors include her husband, of Brownwood; three sons, Weldon Benson, Floyd Benson and Gerald Benson, all of Brownwood; and five grandchildren.

Ima Lou Huff
Ima Lou Huff, 85, died Tuesday after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Dr. Russ Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in Hamby Cemetery.
Mrs. Huff was born in Yantis in Wood County and graduated from Hamby High School. She attended Gail Business College. She earned her barber's license in 1965 and managed the family barber shop for 14 years. She was a member of North Park Baptist Church and was the widow of Cliff Huff, whom she married in 1935 in Breckenridge.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue Kirkman of Abilene; two sons, Johnny Huff and Bob Huff, both of Abilene; one sister, Esther Leggett of Hamby; one brother, Dement Osborn of Mexico; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Guy Pope
Guy Pope, 98, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert D. Ford officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.
Mr. Pope was born in Oxford, Miss., and graduated from Gorman High School. He attended Draughan's and Tyler Business colleges, and Simmons College, now Hardin-Simmons University. He moved to Abilene in 1918. He married Edith Holly in 1929 in Abilene, and worked for the T&P Railroad Co. for 44 years before retiring in 1963. He was a member of Abilene Masonic Lodge 559 and was a Knight Templar, both for 74 years, and also was a member of Suez Shrine Temple. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he was a bookkeeper from 1964-90.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one brother-in-law, Wilson Holly of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Michael Rayford Guffey
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Michael Rayford Guffey, 56, Abilene native, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Graham Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Guffey moved to Las Cruces in the early 1950s and was president and owner of R.L. Guffey Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Allene Guffey of Las Cruces; one son, Padraic Guffey of Las Cruces; and one sister, Mary Heaven of Manassas, Va.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Wilda Maurine Miller
SUN CITY, Ariz. - Wilda Maurine Miller, 72, formerly of the Big Country, died Monday.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in First Southern Baptist Church in Glendale, Ariz., directed by Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary of Glendale.
Mrs. Miller was born in Chalk, Texas, and married William H. Miller Sr. in 1941 in Abilene. She moved to Arizona in 1941, and returned to Clyde in 1971 and Arizona in 1989. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Glendale, Ariz., and was a former member of Clyde First Baptist Church. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, William H. Miller Jr. of Glendale, Ariz., Rick Miller of Plano and Gary Miller of Phoenix, Ariz.; four sisters, Thelma McLemore of Houston, Norma McCoy of Conroe, and Doris Crosby and Freida Davis, both of Clyde; three brothers, Willard Gilbreath of Conroe, Bill Gilbreath of Houston and Bob Gilbreath of Sun City; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Florene Mashburn
FORT WORTH - Florene R. Mashburn, 81, Hamlin native, died Monday in Fort Worth.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Poly United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, directed by Greenwood Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mashburn moved to Fort Worth in 1944. She worked as an educational secretary until retiring in the late 1970s and then was a substitute teacher until 1994. She was a past president of the Fort Worth Council of Parents & Teachers Association and Fort Worth Association of Educational Secretaries, and was a life member of the Texas Congress of Parents & Teachers Association and the National Parent-Teacher Association. She volunteered at the St. Joseph and Medical Plaza hospitals for many years, and was a member of Poly United Methodist and First United Methodist churches.
Survivors include one son, Terry Mashburn of Fort Worth; one daughter, Anita Havens of Fort Worth; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Cambourn Stephen 'Curley' Wantling
BROWNWOOD - Cambourn Stephen "Curley" Wantling, 84, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Graveside services with Masonic rites will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Eastlawn Memorial Park, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mr. Wantling was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., and served in the U.S. Army's 36th Armored Division during World War II. He was a retired insurance agent and lived in Dallas for many years before moving to Brownwood in 1991. He was a member of Vickery Masonic Lodge in Dallas and was a Shriner. He was a Baptist and was the widower of Lenora Mae Clark Wantling, whom he married in 1941.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews, including Sandra McBee of Brownwood.

E.O. French
SWEETWATER - E.O. French, 95, of Lubbock and formerly of Sweetwater, died Tuesday at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Drs. Morris Poole and G.W. French officiating. Graveside services with Masonic rites will be at 2 p.m. in Lamesa Memorial Park in Lamesa.
Mr. French was born in Dawson and worked for Texas Electric for 25 years before retiring. He was a member of Sweetwater Masonic Lodge 571 and Sweetwater First United Methodist Church, and was the widower of Cleone Pruitt French, whom he married in 1928 in Lamesa; and Nadine Bennett French, whom he married in 1984 in Sweetwater.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Ratcliffe of Amarillo and Joyce Blackburn of Lubbock; one brother, Dr. G.W. French Jr. of Arlington; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Catherine Evans
Catherine E. Evans, 90, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road, with John Lasater officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Evans was born in Columbus, Ohio, and grew up in Ohio. She married Leon C. Evans in 1948 in Chandler, Ariz. She moved to Abilene in 1962. She worked in civil service for more than 25 years and retired from the finance office at Dyess Air Force Base. She was a member of Wylie Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, of Abilene; one daughter, Jacquellyn Shaffer of Urbana, Ohio; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 2160 S. 34th.
Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.
