Cletous Newnham
EASTLAND - Cletous W. Newnham, 88, owner and operator of Newnham's Laundromat for 45 years, died Monday in a Dallas hospital.
Graveside services with Masonic rites will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Necessity Cemetery in Stephens County with the Rev. Jerry Speer officiating, directed by Bakker Funeral Home.
Mr. Newnham was born in LaCasa, where he attended school, and married Vera Brown in 1933 in Breckenridge. He farmed and ranched until moving to Eastland in 1957. He was a member of Breckenridge Masonic Lodge 492 and Necessity Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Eastland; one daughter, Colene Barnett of Wylie; one son, J.R. Newnham Jr. of Arlington; one brother, Brady Newnham of Breckenridge; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ignacia Hernandez
Ignacia R. Hernandez, 72, died Tuesday at her home.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today in Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home Chapel, 1443 N. 2nd. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Francis Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Uecker officiating. Burial will be in Abilene Municipal Cemetery.
Mrs. Hernandez was born in Lockhart, where she married Domingo Hernandez in 1945, and was a homemaker. She moved to Abilene in 1951 and was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Abilene; five sons, Domingo Hernandez Jr., Joe Hernandez, Ernest Hernandez and Edward Hernandez, all of Abilene, and Tony Hernandez of San Diego; three daughters, Virginia Ochoa, Gloria Gonzalez and Sandie Burton, all of Abilene; two brothers, Basilio Ramirez and Fidel Ramirez, both of Lockhart; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Clyde Laird
Clyde Laird, 77, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Trinity Nazarene Church, 3302 State, with the Rev. David Chandler officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Laird was born in Lohn and attended school in Lampasas. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He married Martha Alice Waldrop in 1940 in Lampasas and moved to Abilene in 1941. He worked as a carpenter for Oscar Rose and Sons Construction for 20 years before retiring and was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Trinity Nazarene Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one son, Bruce Avery Laird of Killeen; one stepson, George Clifford Biddy of Abilene; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Theodore Roosevelt Winn
Theodore Roosevelt Winn, 90, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in The Salvation Army Chapel with the Rev. Phillip D. Winn, Capt. Edward Alonzo and Woodrow Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Old Ross Cemetery in Baird, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Winn was born in Baird and moved to Abilene in 1940. He was a farmer for many years. He also worked in civil service for five years and was a custodian at the Mims Building for two years and the Petroleum Building for three years. He was employed by the Abilene school system at Cooper High School for 1-1/2 years before retiring. He was a member of The Salvation Army and was the widower of Lula Isabell Winn, whom he married in 1930 in Abilene.
Survivors include one son, Phillip D. Winn of Muskogee, Okla.; twin daughters, Mary Theodora Hughes of New York and Mary Theresa Teague of Abilene; one brother, Ralph R. Winn of St. Louis; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Richard 'Buddy' Johnson
Richard V. "Buddy" Johnson, 50, died Monday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home Chapel, 1443 N. 2nd, with Daniel McBride officiating. Burial will be in Clyde Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was born in Stamford and served with the U.S. Army Special Forces in Vietnam. He worked as a musician and musical technician, performing in benefits to help individuals with medical problems and for organizations. He married Rita Chapman in 1973 in Big Spring. He lived in Big Spring for many years before moving to Abilene in 1991, and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; three sons, Dana Johnson and Bill Johnson, both of St. Paul, Minn., and Shawn George of Corpus Christi; two daughters, Pamala Sue Callaway of Garland and Bobbi Jeanne Johnson of Abilene; his mother and stepfather, Pat and A.V. Johnson of Big Spring; one sister, Sandra Jean Heffington of Big Spring; four brothers, David Elvis Johnson of Apple Valley, Minn., Harry Marvin "Bub" McDowell of Sylvester, and Ross Olyer and Gary Olyer, both of Big Spring; and two grandchildren.

Bill Hegwood
TYE - William Miles Hegwood, 60, died Tuesday in Tye.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Tye Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Tye Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel.
Mr. Hegwood was born in Albany, where he attended school, and married Betty Trussell in 1956 in Haskell. He served with the U.S. Marines and Navy during the Korean conflict and Vietnam War. He worked as a security guard at the Taylor County Courthouse for SAC Security, taught refrigeration at the Abilene campus of Cisco Junior College, was an outside salesman for TERSCO Inc. for 15 years and also was a repairman for Sears for 10 years. He was a lead singer, guitarist and mandolin player for the band, Country Grass.
Survivors include his wife, of Tye; two sons, Miles Hegwood of Tye and Donald Hegwood of Abilene; four sisters, Sue Hawley of Albany, Carolyn Jeter of College Station, Letha Lee of Rotan and Earlene Meyer of Gainesville; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Georgia Fryar
ROTAN - Georgia Fryar, 84, died Tuesday at her home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Belvieu Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Holder officiating, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fryar was born in Edith and married Olen Fryar in 1932 in Carlsbad, N.M. She was a homemaker and lived in Big Spring for 20 years and Brownwood for 23 years before recently moving to Rotan. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Brownwood.
Survivors include her husband, of Rotan; three children, Jacqueline Julian of Austin, Roger Fryar of Irving and Olen Fryar Jr. of Rotan; two sisters and one brother; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

W.H. Bates
MAY - W.H. Bates, 55, died Wednesday in a Brownwood hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in May First Baptist Church with Dennis Hester officiating. Burial will be on the family farm, directed by Higginbotham Funeral Home of Rising Star.
Mr. Bates was born in Hamilton County and was a U.S. Army veteran. He married Linda Rankin in 1972 in May and was a farmer and rancher. He moved to the Rising Star-May area in 1975 from Evant and was a member of May First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of May; three sons, Larry Bates of Sweetwater, and Dennis Bates and Gary Bates, both of May; two daughters, Cynthia Bates of Stephenville and Kristi Bates of May; his mother, Margaret Bates of Hamilton; one brother, Roy Bates of Evant; and two sisters, Linda Hill and Brenda Hoherz, both of Jonesboro.

Arthelia McGee
HAMLIN - Arthelia McGee, 74, died Tuesday at her home.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Henry Smith and Leo Scott officiating. Burial will be in Hamlin East Cemetery, directed by Foster-Adams Funeral Home.
Mrs. McGee was born in Jacksonville and moved to Hamlin in 1942. She married A.M. McGee in 1949. She was a homemaker and formerly worked as a cook at the Bluebonnet Cafe. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Hamlin; five daughters, Nonia Hunter and Martha McGee, both of Hamlin, Neomia Rice of Amarillo, Gloria Cork of Midland and Katherine McGee of Big Spring; two sons, Thomas Fry of Fort Worth and Ray McGee of Stamford; her stepmother, Lula Mae Williams of Jacksonville; six sisters, Minnie Hayes, Myrtle Hollis and Otha Williams, all of Tyler, and Glenda Whitaker, Terri Hill and Shirley Wagner, all of Jacksonville; one brother, Elmer Williams of Dallas; 28 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
