Codie Pittman
RANGER - Codie Pittman, 94, died Saturday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Speer officiating. Burial will be in Merriman Cemetery.
Mr. Pittman was born in Comanche and grew up, attended school and worked the family farm in Comanche County. He was a building contractor for 44 years in Ranger. He had lived in Princeton, Hico, Hamilton and Pioneer. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church. He married Bertha Ellen Helm in 1922 in Comanche County; she preceded him in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Connie Phennel of Princeton; two sons, Raymond Pittman of Dallas and Hubert "Hugh" Pittman of Abilene; one brother, B.J. Pittman of Houston; three sisters, Geneva Paulsen of Abilene, Faye Lofton of Bay City and Margaret Sheeks of Dickinson; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mary Moore
BROWNWOOD - Mary B. Moore, 69, died Sunday at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Dennis Hester officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery.
Mrs. Moore was born in Madison County and grew up and attended school in Brownwood. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of May. She married James Moore in 1963 in Abilene.
Survivors include her husband, of Brownwood; one son, Lindsey James Moore of San Jose, Calif.; one daughter, Mary Frances Stanley of Brownwood; one brother, Alvin James of Dallas; two sisters, Emma Bishop of Brownwood and Elvie Lee Cassidy of San Antonio; five grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

Erma Viola Wallace Smith
DECATUR - Erma Viola Wallace Smith, 76, died Saturday in Decatur.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Jack Gatewood officiating, assisted by Howard Jones. A second service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Hamlin. Burial will be in Hamlin Cemetery, directed by Coker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born in Hamlin and was a nurse for Hamlin schools, retiring after 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur and the Decatur Hospital Auxiliary. She married Irvin Smith in 1982 at Lake Lavon; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Williams of Raymond, Wash., and Christy Wallace of Plano; one stepdaughter, Benita Dennis of Paradise; one brother, Jesse Locke of Dallas; one sister, Pauline McKinley of Stamford; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Homer Petross
FARMERS BRANCH - Homer Petross, 78, of Waxahachie and formerly of Farmers Branch, died Friday in DeSoto.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Farmers Branch Church of Christ with Eddy Ketchersid and Richard Seymour officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Mr. Petross was born in Salt Creek and lived in Farmers Branch for 27 years. He was the widower of Marydelle Petross.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Petross of Andrews and Lendell Petross of Waxahachie; one sister, Virginia Strong of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The body will be at Davis-Morris Funeral Home from 3-9 p.m. today and Tuesday until service time.

Mabel Parmelly Dotson
Mabel Parmelly Dotson, 84, of Abilene died Monday at her home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy. 277 South.
Mrs. Dotson was born in Nacogdoches and attended schools in View and Caps. She was retired, having worked in the shoe departments of Minter's, Grissom's and Thornton's department stores. She was a member of Caps United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Survivors include one brother, Klease Parmelly of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Caps United Methodist Church, 6501 Hwy. 277, Abilene 79606; or the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene 79605.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Ralph Vandeveer
Ralph Vandeveer, 81, of Abilene died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Mike Woodard officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Vandeveer was born in Parsons, Kan., and graduated from high school in Moran, Kan. He moved to Abilene in the early 1950s from Venezuela. He retired in 1983 after being self-employed in the water-hauling business. He was a member of Southwest Park Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He married Bobbie Crowson in Lawton, Okla., in 1970.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sons, Ronnie Vandeveer of Tulsa, Okla., and Gary Vandeveer of California; one stepson, Bill Brown of Abilene; several grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Mary Jarvis Welsh
MUNDAY - Mary Jarvis Welsh, 90, died Saturday at an Abilene nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Matt Harrington officiating, assisted by the Rev. William Sterling. Burial will be in Gillespie Cemetery, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Welsh was born in Knox County, where she lived all her life. She was a cook and a member of First United Methodist Church. She married Bert Welsh in 1945 in Benjamin; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce (Mrs. Lendon) Walling of Munday and Loyce (Mrs. Forrest) Yancy of Abilene; one brother, W.W. Jarvis of Tucson, Ariz.; four sisters, Ruby Stice of Midland, Prudence Newsom of Kirkland, Wash., Lela Norton of Clarendon and Margaret Ellis of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Barbara Worley
PADUCAH - Barbara Worley, 78, died Monday at an Abilene hospital after an illness.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Garden of Memories Cemetery with the Rev. Sam Crosby officiating, directed by Seigler Funeral Home.
Mrs. Worley was born in McKinney and moved to Cottle County in 1919. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was the widow of John Bowden. She married W.O. "Jack" Worley in 1954 in Paducah; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Bennie Mayo of Paducah; one daughter, Joyce Palmer of Abilene; one brother, Bennie Thomas of Paducah; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Watt Matthews
ALBANY - Services for Watt Matthews, 98, who died Sunday at Lambshead Ranch, will be at 4 p.m. today at the Reynolds Bend Amphitheatre on the ranch. Burial will be in the nearby cemetery, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home.
Matthews lived his entire life on the ranch, except for his time at Princeton University, where he graduated in 1921. He managed the ranch and was a pioneer in many aspects of cattle raising and conservation. He was instrumental in organizing the Fort Griffin Fandangle Association and was the recipient of numerous awards, local, state and national. He was a 50-year-plus member of the First National Bank board of directors and was a member of the Cowboy and Great Westerners Halls of Fame and the Heritage Hall of Honor in Dallas. He was a member of numerous cattle-raising and other organizations, holding offices in several.
Memorials may be made to The Old Jail Art Center, Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church or the Fort Griffin Fandangle Association.
The public may view the body through 9 a.m. today at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church.
