Dixie Ruth Presley
Dixie Ruth Presley, 76, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal with the Revs. J. Scott Mayer and Rosemary P. Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Presley was born in Plains and lived most of her life in Abilene. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1938 and was a volunteer at the Thrift House and in the office of Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal. She was a Sustainer in the Junior League of Abilene. She was a member of the Slipper Club and Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal and was the widow of Walton M. "Bo" Presley, whom she married in 1939 in Abilene.
Survivors include three daughters, Pam Massey of Austin, Cindy Straughan of Denver and Dixie Ann Wilson of Dallas; one brother, E.B. Free Jr. of Vista, Calif.; two sisters, Lura "Muffett" Sivley and Faye Pender, both of Abilene; and seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal, 602 Meander, Abilene 79602; the soup kitchen of your choice; or a favorite charity.

Phelix Watson
Phelix Watson, 85, owner and operator of Watson Meat Co. for 20 years, died Wednesday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road, with Edward James officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Watson was born in Burkett and grew up in Coleman County. He married Sylvia Smith in 1932 in Cross Plains and lived for several years in Coleman, where he worked as a butcher for Safeway and later owned the Coleman Meat Co. He moved to Abilene in 1950 and was employed by Riddley Meat Co. as a salesman. He was a member of Southwest Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one son, Jerry P. Watson of Midland; one brother, Roger Watson of Cross Plains; one sister, Mildred Harlow of San Antonio; and three grandchildren.
The family will be at 1933 Ivanhoe.

Malcolm James McGregor
Malcolm James McGregor, 78, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Jerry Paulding officiating, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.
Mr. McGregor was born in Fort Worth and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Edith Tucker in 1954 in Fort Worth. He worked as a postal employee for more than 40 years and was postmaster in Keller for 17 years before retiring in 1983. He then moved to Abilene and was a member of South Side Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sons, Billy Ray Cooper of El Paso and Charles McGregor of Fort Worth; two daughters, Darlene Peters of Eula and Jeanne Vaughn of Sherman; one brother, Charles McGregor of Waxahachie; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Tod Newton
BAIRD - Tod Newton, 68, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital after a sudden illness.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Baird First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Willoughby and Byron Hatchett officiating. Burial will be in Ross Cemetery Annex, directed by Parker Funeral Home.
Mr. Newton was born in Caddo Peak and moved to Baird in 1945. He married Jo Ann Dickey in 1947 in Stamford. He was employed as a motorcycle officer for the Abilene Police Department for four years until 1960, when he became a chief deputy sheriff in Callahan County. He started working as a brand inspector for the Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association in 1966. In 1973, he began working for Woods Farms in Katy and retired as a rice dryer manager. He also was a self-employed welder and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Baird; one son, Larry Newton of Baird; one daughter, Candyce Newton Perkins of Clyde; and five grandchildren.

Euna Bissett
HICO - Euna Bissett, 83, of Dublin and formerly of the Carleton area, died Monday in a De Leon hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Rutledge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenda Whitehead officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:15 p.m. in Bangs Cemetery.
Mrs. Bissett lived in the Carleton area, between Hico and Dublin, for 50 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of Hico First United Methodist Church and was the widow of Clayton Bissett.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Ellie McClatchy of Brownwood and Laverne Bissett McDonald of Granbury; and several nieces and nephews.

Douglas Rose
EASTLAND - Douglas F. Rose, 75, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Colony Cemetery with the Rev. Gayle Baucum officiating, directed by Bakker Funeral Home.
Mr. Rose was born in Crossroads in Eastland County and attended Ranger High School. He worked as a carpenter. He also was employed by the city of Eastland for several years before retiring in 1987 and was the widower of Delores Norton Rose, whom he married in 1944.
Survivors include three sons, Tommy Rose of Eastland, Dean Rose of Ranger and Don Rose of Fort Worth; three brothers, Robert O. Rose of Odessa, Dwellie V. Rose of Eastland and Charlie C. Rose of Lake Leon; one sister, Velma Lou Walker of Eastland; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Tom Kingsbery
SANTA ANNA - Tom Kingsbery, 73, named Coleman County Rural Citizen of the Year in 1980 by the Coleman Chamber of Commerce, died Wednesday in a Coleman hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Santa Anna First Baptist Church with the Revs. John Stanislaw and Marty Reed officiating. Burial will be in Santa Anna Cemetery, directed by Henderson Funeral Home.
Mr. Kingsbery was born in Santa Anna and was a lifelong Coleman County resident. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1947. He married Barbara Sue Bruce in 1951 in Santa Anna and was a rancher and stockfarmer. He was president of the Coleman County Telephone Co-Op for 35 years, and was a director and vice president of the Coleman County Electric Co-Op. He also was the general chairman of the Coleman County 4-H and FFA Livestock Show for many years, and was a member and past director of the Coleman Rodeo Association and Breeder Feeder Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Santa Anna; two daughters, Sue Porter of Austin and Carol Otto of Lago Vista; two brothers, H.W. Kingsbery of Beaumont and Jack Kingsbery of Crystal City; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

John Otis Culver
John Otis Culver, 56, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today in North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Hector Sanchez officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Culver was born in California, where he grew up, and was in the U.S. Navy and Air Force for 15 years before retiring from Dyess Air Force Base in 1972. He worked as an optician at Lee Optical for six years. He also was employed by AAA Vacuum Cleaners for five years and was a member of Gathering Christ Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Culver of Abilene; one son, Raymond Culver of Abilene; two daughters, Tina Webb of Lancaster and Kathy Culver of Abilene; two brothers, Frank Culver and Norman Culver, both of Sacramento, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will be at 2436 Westmoreland.

Mamie Brown
Mamie Brown, 80, formerly of Trent, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Trent Cemetery with Randy Jackson officiating, directed by Curtis-Starks Funeral Home, 542 E.N. 7th.
Mrs. Brown was born in Calvert, where she attended school, and moved to Taylor County in 1962. She was a domestic worker and attended Friendly Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathlyn Brown of Abilene; one sister, Bertha Giddings of Houston; one brother, Johnny Beaver of Trent; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
