Estella Chavez
Estella Chavez, 12, died Thursday at the Abilene State School.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Van Horn. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Ralph Solis officiating. Burial will be in Van Horn Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Estella was born in Van Horn and moved to Abilene in 1996 from El Paso. She lived at the Abilene State School and was a Catholic.
Survivors include her parents, Antonio and Gloria Chavez of Aurora, Colo.; two brothers, Robert Quintana of Amarillo and Antonio Chavez Jr. of Aurora, Colo.; and one sister, Adelinda Mustang of Dallas.

Carl Axe Jr.
Carl Axe Jr., 76, lifelong Abilene-area resident, died Thursday in a local hospital.
The body will be cremated and no services are planned. Arrangements are being made by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Axe was born in Hamby and served in Pearl Harbor with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired laborer and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Methodist and was the widower of Della Griffin Axe, whom he married in 1948 in Las Cruces, N.M.
Survivors include one son, Carl William "Billy" Axe III of Abilene.

William Hudman
MORAN - William Hudman, 88, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Moran First Baptist Church with the Rev. Cole Farmer officiating. Burial will be in Moran Cemetery, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home.
Mr. Hudman was born in Deep Creek in Shackelford County and graduated from Moran High School. He played semi-professional baseball and attended Hardin-Simmons University. He served with the U.S. Navy's Seabees in World War II and married Mary Hodge in 1948 in Cisco. He worked in the oil field and was a farmer. He was a 60-year member of Moran Masonic Lodge 863, and was the group's worship master and longtime secretary. He also was a 50-year member of American Legion and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one brother, Donald Hudman of Stephenville; two sisters, Estelle Harris of Godley and Doris Mazzei of Fort Worth; 21 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and great nephews.

Zema Eddington
STAMFORD - Zema Eddington, 80, lifelong local resident, died Saturday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. John's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Yarbrough officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery, directed by Kinney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Eddington was born in Haskell.
Survivors include one son, Earnest Paul Mays of Stamford; two daughters, Billie Sue Ray of Haskell and Mattie Sue Ford of Abilene; two brothers, L.C. Thornton and Irving L. Thornton, both of Fort Worth; two sisters, Ida Lee Freeman of Lubbock and Lurlene James of Farmington, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Rosie Lee 'Big Mama' Perot
BROWNWOOD - Rosie Lee "Big Mama" Perot, 67, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Greater Faith Community Church with the Rev. James Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mrs. Perot was born in Shreveport, La., and was a homemaker. She moved to Brownwood in 1973 from Fort Worth, and was a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center and Bennie Houston Center. She was a member of New Testament Holiness Church and was the widow of Clarence Perot Sr., whom she married in 1946 in Red River, La.
Survivors include two sons, Clarence Perot Jr. and Albert Robert Perot, both of Brownwood; five daughters, Lessies B. Shields of Giddings, Linda J. Hoskins of Fort Worth, Linda Faye Anderson of Bangs, and Rosie Mary Perot and Barbara Jean Perot, both of Brownwood; three brothers, Major Blackmon of Los Angeles, Albert Davis Jr. of Louisiana and Sam Blackmon of Fort Worth; three sisters, Mamie Carter of Shreveport, La., and Maxine Lampkin and Tinie Shepard, both of Fort Worth; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

W.H. 'Bill' Vahlenkamp
OLD GLORY - W.H. "Bill" Vahlenkamp, 95, of Abilene and formerly of Old Glory, died Friday in an Abilene nursing home.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in Faith Lutheran Church in Sagerton with the Rev. Gary O. Brooms officiating. Burial will be in Old Glory Cemetery, directed by Kinney Funeral Home of Stamford.
Mr. Vahlenkamp was born in La Grange and lived in the Old Glory area most of his life. He was a farmer and moved to Abilene in 1974. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sagerton and was the widower of Ida Dora Lowack Vahlenkamp, whom he married in 1933 in Sagerton.
Survivors include one son, Melvin Vahlenkamp of Balch Springs; one daughter, Billie Ann McMorris of Seymour; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.

Jewell Dukes Huddleston
COMANCHE - Jewell Dukes Huddleston, 85, died Thursday.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Comanche First Baptist Church, directed by Hall & Sons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Huddleston was born near Duster and attended school in Duster. She later moved to Iraan. She worked as a staff writer for the Iraan News from 1948-63 and, also during that time, was a correspondent for the Odessa American and San Angelo Standard-Times. She moved to Comanche in 1963 and started writing a weekly column titled "Wagon Wheels" in 1977 for the Comanche Chief. She continued writing until April of this year. She was named Woman of the Year in 1966 by the Comanche Chamber of Commerce and was the widow of Acie Ray Huddleston, whom she married in 1927.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald "Corky" Huddleston of Navasota and Billy Pete Huddleston of Houston; three sisters, Hope Joiner of Gorman, and Amber Craddock and Hazel Roberts, both of Comanche; two brothers, W.D. Dukes of Tyler and Herman Dukes of Sidney; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Marie Rhoads
MUNDAY - Dorothy Marie Rhoads, 74, lifelong local resident, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Munday First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Hall and Dr. H.B. Graves officiating. Burial will be in Johnson Memorial Cemetery, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rhoads was born in Munday and married Clifford Rhoads in 1945 in Haskell. She was a homemaker and was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, of Munday; one daughter, Lila Ann "Bunny" Hutchens of Munday; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
