Sidney Boyd
EARLY - Sidney E. Boyd, 85, died Friday in a Brownwood nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with Ted Kell officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Boyd was born in Indian Creek, where he married Lottie McMullen in 1933, and moved to Early in 1942. He was a retired stock farmer and county commissioner, and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, of Early; three daughters, Sylvia Cox of Lampasas, Lavell Ford of Bryan and Wynell Bell of Early; one son, Bryan Boyd of Brownwood; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Tommy Smith
SPUR - Tommy Fuqua Smith, 75, died Friday in a Fort Sumner, N.M. hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Spur First Baptist Church with Paige Baize officiating. Burial will be in Spur Memorial Cemetery, directed by Campbell Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith was born in Kent County and attended school in Red Mud, Texas. He started working as a ranch hand at the Swenson Ranch at age 13, and was employed by the Pitchfork Ranch and Westex Cattle Co. for many years. He was a former Guthrie school trustee and moved to Spur in 1991 and Fort Sumner, N.M. in 1996. He was the widower of Dorothy McCombs Smith, whom he married in 1942 in Spur.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Scott of Fort Sumner, N.M., and Jane Eason of Big Spring; one brother, Bill Smith of Stamford; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Tammera Sue Ice
Tammera Sue Ice, 33, died Thursday at her home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.
Mrs. Ice was born in Omaha, Neb., and moved to Abilene in 1981. She married Fred Ice in 1985 in Abilene and was a homemaker. She was a Catholic.
Survivors include her husband, of Abilene; two sons, Matthew Ice and Daniel Ice, both of Abilene; her mother, Helen Charnick of Colorado; and three sisters, Lori Castillo of Fort Worth, Debbie Hamm of California and Brenda Bradshaw of Okinawa, Japan.

Lucille Ruth Watts McElrath
Lucille Ruth Watts McElrath, 87, a member of the Hendrick Medical Center Auxiliary since 1958, died Friday in a Clyde nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange, with the Rev. Price Mathieson officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. McElrath was born in Stephens County near Breckenridge and attended school in Hamby. She moved to Abilene in 1929 and was a past president of the Hendrick Medical Center Auxiliary. She was recognized by the American Hospital Association for her hospital volunteer work. She was a charter member of the Abilene Lioness Club and also was a member of Abilene Woman's Club and First Baptist Church. She was the widow of Floyd McElrath, whom she married in 1928 in Hamby.
Survivors include three sons, Robert M. McElrath of Reno, Nev., Jimmy L. McElrath of Abilene and Edwin McElrath of Tyler; one brother, Austin Watts of Abilene; three brothers, Elsie Novak of Saginaw, Mich., Juanita Lewis of Hamby and Ola Pruitt of Hawley; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 1919 Glenhaven.

Hubbert Vaughan
Hubbert E. Vaughan, 90, Greyhound bus driver for 35 years before retiring, died Friday in a local nursing home.
Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Bush officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Vaughan was born in Parker County and graduated from high school in Weatherford. He married Catherine DeBeauford in 1928 in Fort Worth and moved to Abilene in 1931 from Fort Worth. He was a former member of the Greyhound Bus Driver's Union. He was a 50-year member of St. Vincent de Paul Society and sang in the choir for many years at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one son, Earl Vaughan of Abilene; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Jessie 'Jeannie' Jones
Jessie "Jeannie" Jones, 46, employed by Abilene Christian University in food service since 1982, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Bethel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Dwayne Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Curtis-Starks Funeral Home, 542 E.N. 7th.
Mrs. Jones was born in Abilene and graduated from Cooper High School. She was a Methodist.
Survivors include one son, Eugene Jones of Abilene; three daughters, Katherine Jones, Angel Jones and Erika Hayes, all of Abilene; her grandmother, Katherine Jordan of Abilene; seven grandchildren; and four aunts and four uncles.
The family will be at 5209 N. 9th.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Cindy Armstrong Brown
LUBBOCK - Cindy Armstrong Brown, 36, relative of two Big Country residents, died Friday in a local hospital from complications after an automobile accident on Feb. 26.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Davis Price officiating, directed by Sanders Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. in Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Brown was born in Lubbock and graduated from Monterey High School. She attended Angelo State University and American Commercial College. She married Jerry Brown in 1980 in Tahoka and worked as an operations manager for Nelda Armstrong Advertising Agency. She was a member of the Lubbock, 10th District and National Advertising federations; and Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Lubbock; her parents, Nelda Armstrong of Lubbock, and Mr. and Mrs. H.S. Armstrong of Gilmer; one brother, Gregg Armstrong of Fort Worth; one stepbrother, Michael Seeton of Lancaster; two sisters, Lisa Hoover of Abilene and Leslie Swinford of Rowlett; one half-sister, Lindsay Armstrong of College Station; her maternal grandmother, Juanita Lee of Dublin; and 11 nephews and one niece.

Mable Kellom
BEAVER DAM, Wisc. - Mable H. Kellom, 97, mother of an Abilene resident, died Tuesday in a local nursing home.
Services were held Saturday in Grace Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Paul Hudson officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, directed by Murray Community Funeral Home.
Mrs. Kellom was born in Beaver Dam and was a lifelong area resident. She and her husband farmed in Beaver Dam until 1944. She was a volunteer for the Dodge County Community Concert Association for 47 years and American Red Cross Blood Bank for 35 years. She also was a longtime Gray Lady at Clearview Nursing Home in Juneau, Wisc. She was a member of the Beaver Dam Women's Club, and was a member of the Ladies Circle and a deacon at Grace Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Edwin H. Kellom, whom she married in 1917 in Beaver Dam.
Survivors include three children, Emerson Kellom of Beaver Dam, Harriet Connor of Abilene and Winogene McIntyre of Hilton Head, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Stanley Merket
COLORADO CITY - Stanley Merket, 82, died Friday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Colorado City First Baptist Church with Dr. Ted Spear and the Rev. C.J. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Colorado City Cemetery, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Merket was born in Nimrod and moved to China Grove in 1916. He married Jessie Mae Brown in 1937 in Colorado City and worked as a bookkeeper at the Merket Gin in China Grove. He also was a farmer, stockman and John Deere dealer. He was secretary of the Men's Sunday School Class for many years at First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Colorado City; two daughters, Joann Snider of Snyder and Gloria Baird of San Angelo; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
