Rosa Bell McLeod
Rosa Bell McLeod, 88, died Wednesday at her home.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Revs. Wayne Oglesby and James R. McLeod officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. McLeod was born in Hamilton and attended school in Snyder. She worked as a bookkeeper for F.W. Woolworth for 20 years until retiring and moved to Abilene in 1974 from Denver. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was the widow of Frank Richard McLeod, whom she married in 1926 in Snyder.
Survivors include three sons, Richard D. McLeod of Cupertino, Calif., Bobby McLeod of Fort Worth and Glenn N. McLeod of Abilene; two daughters, Lois Bowley of Lynwood, Wash., and Una Martin of Boise, Idaho; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Lillian MacLeod Reed
Lillian MacLeod Reed, 97, died Thursday at her home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Rosemary P. Thomas officiating, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home of Tuscola.
Mrs. Reed was born in Oklahoma City and moved to Abilene in 1914. She graduated from Simmons College, now Hardin-Simmons University, and was a homemaker. She helped her husband in operating Caleb Reed Men's Store for many years. She was a charter member of the Cotillion Club. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest and was the widow of Caleb Reed, whom she married in Abilene.
Survivors include four grandchildren, including Bruce M. Reed of Abilene and Susan Gleye of San Antonio; and five great-grandchildren.

M.D. Ellis
CLYDE - M.D. Ellis, 89, died Thursday in a local care center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Clyde First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Joplin officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.
Mr. Ellis was born in Wingate and married Edna Alene "Toad" Byrd in 1937 in Sweetwater. He served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II. He worked in highway construction and moved to Clyde in 1960 from Abilene. He was Callahan County Precinct 3 commissioner for eight years and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Clyde; one son, Terry Marlin Ellis of Tecumseh; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

James Samuel Hendrix
SWEETWATER - James Samuel Hendrix, 72, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lamar Street Baptist Church with the Revs. Keith Clifton and Orvel Brantley officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Hendrix was born in Nolan County and graduated from Newman High School. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and married Rhea Guelker in 1949 in Sweetwater. He worked for Flintcote and Domtar for 29 years and was a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Sweetwater; four sons, Sammy Hendrix and Tim Hendrix, both of Sweetwater, Mike Hendrix of Midland and Robert Hendrix of Levelland; one sister, Frances Viser of Abilene; and six grandchildren.

Betty Morrison Gruny
EARLY - Betty Morrison Gruny, 65, of Carlsbad, Texas, died Thursday at her home.
Graveside services will be at 6 p.m. today in Blanket Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Day officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gruny was born in Palestine and was a homemaker. She was a Methodist.
Survivors include her husband, David Gruny of Carlsbad, Texas; three sons, Leonard Morrison and Shane Morrison, both of Early, and Tommy Morrison of Blanket; one daughter, Jerri Lynn Pierce of Ozona; three sisters, Bertie Jackson of Midland, and Ruby Solomon and Reily Lafoon, both of Falfurrias; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Verna Exetta Hill
STAMFORD - Verna Exetta Hill, 56, of Houston and formerly of Stamford, died Sunday at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Solomon Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Hooper officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery, directed by Tankersley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hill married Learence Hill in Knox City and was a homemaker. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband of Houston; one son, Odis Thomas Hill of Beaumont; three daughters, Joyce Laverne Hill and Lanita Gale Robbins, both of Houston, and Rhonda Vernell Johnson of Kansas; her mother, Lavada Thomas of Stamford; three brothers, Bennie Ray Thomas of Stamford, Charles Edward Thomas of Albuquerque, N.M., and Billy Joe Thomas of Houston; three sisters, Clara Fay Thompson and Minnie Lou Daniels, both of Houston, and Gwenda Marie Hooper of Stamford; and six grandchildren.

Archie Skaggs
GORMAN - Archie E. Skaggs, 86, peanut buyer for 23 years for the Southwestern Peanut Growers Association, died Thursday in a De Leon hospital.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Rhoton officiating. Burial will be in Gorman-Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mr. Skaggs was born in Rock Bluff in Comanche County, where he married Georgia Fae Sanders in 1931. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Gorman; one son, Jerry Skaggs of Hereford; two daughters, Julia Beth Cook of De Leon and Emma Jane Larch of Irving; two brothers, Virgil Joe Skaggs of Palo Pinto Lake and Vernon Skaggs of De Leon; three sisters, Elsie Robinett, Marie White and Bernice Farley, all of De Leon; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Glenn Edward Farnam
STRAWN - Glenn Edward Farnam, 27, died Wednesday from injuries received in a truck accident in Denton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Wayne Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Mount Marion Cemetery.
Mr. Farnam was born in Dallas and graduated from Grand Saline High School. He married Debbie Covey in 1989 in Tyler and served during the Persian Gulf War. He worked as a cement truck driver.
Survivors include his wife of Strawn; three children, Kassidy Michelle Farnam, Kodie Glenn Farnam and Chantal Renee Farnam, all of Strawn; his mother, Martha Farnam of Arlington; five nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Alta Young Hartshorn
Alta Young Hartshorn, 94, died Tuesday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kathryn Boren and Dr. David Hamblin officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Hartshorn was born in Kuttawa, Ky., and attended school in Kuttawa, Ky., and Cairo, Ill. She worked for 12 years for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. before moving to Texas in 1960. She was a housemother at Shannon School of Nursing in San Angelo and, later, at Angelo State University. She moved to Abilene in 1967 from San Angelo. She volunteered at West Texas Rehabilitation Center through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and was a member of Abilene Woman's Club, American Association of Retired Persons, and the Builders Sunday School Class at St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Lawrence M. Young, whom she married in 1925 in Jonesboro, Ill.; and Al M. Hartshorn, whom she married in 1976 in Baird.
Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Gustafson and Margaret Appleton, both of Abilene, and Mary Pike of Haughton, La.; three sons, Robert L. Young of Evansville, Ind., Ralph E. Young of Waverly, Ill., and Paul Ray Young of Anna, Ill.; two sisters, Iola Barnett of Beardstown, Ill., and Lucille Ethridge of Buncombe, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Victor Galvan
Victor Galvan, 50, died Sunday at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with the Rev. Charles Maciel officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.
Mr. Galvan was born in Brownfield and graduated from Loraine High School. He attended Texas State Technical College and Hardin-Simmons University and married Theresa Molina in 1969 in Abilene. He worked for the U.S. Coast Guard for 20 years until retiring. He later was an Abilene school custodian. He was a deacon at Ambler Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one son, David J. Galvan of Oakland, Calif.; one daughter, Gennie Galvan of Abilene; seven brothers, Carlos Galvan of Goose Creek, S.C., Manuel Galvan of Wichita Falls, Henry Galvan of Glendale, Ariz., Peter Galvan of Arkansas, David Galvan and Felix Galvan, both of Arlington, and Tino Galvan of Midland; three sisters, Margaret Quintela and Rita Hernandez, both of Midland, and Edna Galvan of Anchorage, Alaska.
