Edwin Jack Chambliss
CLOUDCROFT, N.M. - Edwin Jack Chambliss, 72, formerly of Cisco, died Monday after a sudden illness.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sears Funeral Home Chapel in Alamogordo, N.M.
Mr. Chambliss was born in Cisco, where he graduated from high school in 1941, and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1948, University of Mississippi in 1949 and North Texas State University in 1955. He was a former choral director at the Abilene campus of Cisco Junior College and also directed church and community choirs in Texas and New Mexico. He earned his doctorate from Texas Tech University in 1968. He then taught at New Mexico State University, starting as an assistant professor and retiring in 1986 as a professor of curriculum and instruction in the College of Education.
Survivors include his wife, Wilmoth Chambliss; three children, Eileen Sever of Albuquerque, N.M., Bill Chambliss of Gunnison, Colo., and Ruth Chambliss Steinau of Las Cruces, N.M.; one sister, Marion Altman of Abilene; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Dorothy Ratliff
SNYDER - Dorothy Ratliff, 82, employed as a secretary by the Snyder school system in the special education department and high school for many years, died Wednesday in a local hospital after a sudden illness.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Hillside Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ernie McGaughey officiating, directed by Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ratliff was born in Smithville and moved to Snyder in the middle 1940s. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was the widow of Dr. Donald Kirk Ratliff, whom she married in Fort Worth.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy C. Jeffries of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Theresa Marie Smith
CISCO - Theresa Marie Smith, 87, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Young officiating, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born in Hot Springs, Ark., and was a homemaker. She also was a hospital food service worker. She was a member of East Cisco Baptist Church and was the widow of William "Mack" McKinley Smith, whom she married in 1935 in Oklahoma City.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Josephine Day of Corpus Christi; and several nieces and nephews.

Hazel Lee Turner Reed
Hazel Lee Turner Reed, 69, of Austin and formerly of Abilene, died Tuesday in Austin.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. K.R. White officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery, directed by Curtis-Starks Funeral Home, 542 E.N. 7th.
Mrs. Reed was born in New Waverly and lived in Abilene for many years. She attended Woodson High School and Prairie View A&M College, and worked at the Juvenile Justice Center until retiring. She helped organize the Meals on Wheels Program in Abilene and was active with the Community Action Program. Aside from Meals on Wheels, she also cooked and delivered meals on her own to elderly residents. She moved to Austin in 1995 and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where she was a clerk for several years.
Survivors include two children, Keith E. Turner and Cynthia Turner Lott, both of Austin; two sisters, Johnnie M. Miller and Janey P. Williams, both of Abilene; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today in the funeral home.

R.R. Kennedy
BIG SPRING - R.R. Kennedy, 94, of Abilene and formerly of Big Spring, died Tuesday.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Terry Wright officiating, directed by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Kennedy was born in Scurry County and moved to Howard County in 1908. He married Nettie Lorene Mansfield in 1929 in Howard County and was a farmer for many years. He moved to Big Spring in 1964 and was a member of Vincent Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Ed Kennedy of Pleasanton, Joe Kennedy of Dallas and Carl Kennedy of Odessa; two daughters, LaVerne Atwell of Odessa and Gayla Paul of Abilene; 14 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
The family will be at 1105 Stanford in Big Spring.

Rudy Gonzalez
SWEETWATER - Rudy Gonzalez, 67, employed by Flintcote for 34 years, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Henry Laenen officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery.
Mr. Gonzalez was born in Mexico and was the widower of Lupe Chapa Gonzalez, whom he married in 1945 in Anson.
Survivors include two sons, Raul Gonzalez of Sweetwater and Ralph Gonzalez of Roscoe; two daughters, Rachel DeLoera and Ramona DeLoera, both of Sweetwater; two brothers, Arnulfo Gonzalez and Armando Gonzalez, both of Eagle Pass; two sisters, Aurora Gonzalez and Conseula Cisneros, both of Eagle Pass; and five grandchildren.

Norvel Littlefield
BANGS - Norvel Littlefield, 77, died Wednesday from injuries received in an automobile-pedestrian accident in Goldthwaite.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early with the Rev. Ruben Packer officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early.
Mr. Littlefield was born in Concho, Texas, and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a retired sheet metal machinist and married Ruby Jean Chrane in 1994 at Lake Brownwood. He moved to Bangs in 1994 from Early and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Bangs; three daughters, Sandra Hill of Bangs, Anne Powell of Arlington and Laura Davis of Lake Brownwood; one brother, Walter Littlefield of Snyder; two sisters, Virginia Bott of Garden Grove, Calif., and Mary Bullard of Odessa; eight grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

CROSS PLAINS - Robert F. Joy, 73, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Chesshir officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery.
Mr. Joy was born in Cottonwood and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sisters, Bobbie Brown of Cross Plains and Katherine Winchester of Cisco; and several nieces and nephews.

Willie Dee Goza
GARLAND - Willie Dee Goza, 62, Anson native, died Thursday in a Carrollton hospital after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen with the Rev. Katie Jackson officiating, directed by Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Directors of McKinney.
Mr. Goza married Wilma Faye Sexton in 1961 in Midland and worked as a printer for Miller-Gold Printing for 15 years in Odessa. He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church in Midland.
Survivors include his wife, of Garland; one daughter, Sonja Harsch of McKinney; and one grandchild.

John Lee
TUCSON, Ariz. - John L. Lee, 65, formerly of Albany, died Monday.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 10 a.m. today in Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery, directed by Heather Mortuary.
Mr. Lee was in the U.S. Army for 25 years and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He also worked as a drug and alcohol abuse counselor at the Heritage House in Albany. He was the widower of Faye A. Lee.
Survivors include three children, Kristine Lee, Larry Lee and Jeffrey Lee; one sister, Rose McAdams; one grandchild; and one nephew.
