Edith Margaret Byrd McCarroll
CROSS PLAINS - Edith Margaret Byrd McCarroll, 77, of Bangs died Saturday at a Brownwood hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with John Swift officiating. Burial will be in Cross Cut Cemetery.
Mrs. McCarroll was born in Cross Cut and was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was the widow of W.E. McCarroll.
Survivors include one son, Charles Hardin of Brownwood; and three brothers, Lawrence Byrd, J.T. Byrd and Jake Byrd, all of Cross Cut.

Mabel Alice Greer
RANGER - Mabel Alice Greer, 73, died Sunday in Georgetown.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. T. Nathan Tucker officiating, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.
Mrs. Greer was born in Providence, R.I., and had lived in Ranger since 1946. She held several jobs in Ranger, including with the Public Housing Authority, Rexall Drug Store and Montgomery Ward's. She was employed by Walnut Street Clinic and Dr. Luther R. Gohlke for 25 years, retiring in 1996. She married Lee Greer in 1944; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Ed Greer of Fort Worth; one daughter, Alice Briggs of Georgetown; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Claudia Lucille Blankenship
Claudia Lucille Blankenship, 58, died Monday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. David Cason officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Prairie Springs Cemetery near Canton.
Mrs. Blankenship was born in Oak Grove, La., and moved to Abilene in 1957 from Shreveport, La. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Abilene State School and was a Baptist.
Survivors include one son, Arnold Blankenship of South Carolina; five daughters, Sandy Goodman of Abilene, Marsha Theisen of Iowa, Nancy Hoppenworth of Oklahoma, Brenda Stirman of Burleson and Cheryl Anne Bates of Houston; her parents, Alvin Jones Sr. of Longview and Ethel Nix of Canton; two brothers, Alvin Truman Jones of Canton and James Jones of Waco; and 17 grandchildren.

Beatrice Bryan
Beatrice (Mrs. R.B.) Bryan, 90, died Monday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Michael R. Schirle officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery.
Mrs. Bryan was born in Hamby and worked for American Cleaners for 23 years until retiring in 1968. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and was the widow of R.B. Bryan, whom she married in 1924 in Taylor County.
Survivors include one son, R.C. "Bob" Bryan of Fort Worth; six grandchildren; and one nephew and two nieces.

Vernon Sims
Vernon D. Sims, 71, of Tuscola, died Monday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South. Burial will be in Dewey Cemetery.
Mr. Sims was born in Gatesville and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Helen Brown Horrell in 1952 in Abilene and worked as a plant operator for Union Texas Petroleum in Haughton, La. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6873 and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, of Tuscola; one son, Thomas David Horrell of Wingate, N.C.; two daughters, Frances Young of Hawley and Martha Sanders of San Diego; two brothers, Ervin Sims of Abilene and Raby Sims of Potosi; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ellen Bailey Sharp
SPUR - Ellen Bailey Sharp, 90, of Abilene and formerly of Dickens County, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Spur First Baptist Church with the Revs. Werth Mayes and Richard Harbison officiating. Burial will be in Spur Memorial Cemetery, directed by Campbell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sharp was born in Knox City and was a homemaker. She moved to Dickens County in 1933. She was a charter member of the Spur Bluebonnet Club and helped organize the Spur Senior Citizens. She was a member of the Spur Art Guild and moved to Abilene in 1990. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Arthur C. Sharp, whom she married in 1926 in Rochester.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. A.C. Sharp of Abilene and James Sharp of Spur; two daughters, Barbara Gray of Rotan and Jane Sharp of Clovis, N.M.; three brothers, J.V. Denton of Abilene, Morris Denton of Knox City and J.J. Denton of Arlington; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Bertha Zelma Tanner
HASKELL - Bertha Zelma Tanner, 95, died Monday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Haskell First Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Turner and David Page officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Tanner was born in McCulloch County and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was the widow of Frank Tanner, whom she married in 1927.
Survivors include many nephews and nieces.

Ira Treadwell
STAMFORD - Ira Treadwell, 86, lifelong local resident, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Stamford First Baptist Church with the Revs. Bruce Lambert and Roland Williams officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Tuxedo, directed by Tankersley Funeral Home.
Mr. Treadwell was born in Stamford and was a retired farmer. He was a trustee of the Plainview and Tuxedo community schools and was a past president of the Fairview Cemetery Association. He also was a director of Farm Bureau. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church and was the widower of Ollie Mae Agnew Treadwell, whom he married in 1929 in Corinth.
Survivors include one son, John T. Treadwell of Claremore, Okla.; one daughter, Jean Burnett of Stamford; one sister, Leta Harper of Anson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Oneta Ashley
ROBY - Oneta Ashley, 71, died Monday in a Rotan hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Roby Church of Christ with Darrell Hart officiating. Burial will be in Roby Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home of Rotan.
Mrs. Ashley was born in Fisher County and married John W. Ashley in 1949 in Roby. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, of Roby; and two brothers, George Benjamin Goforth of Mineral Wells and Jessie Thomas Goforth of Roby.
