Herbert Herman Kretschmer
HASKELL - Herbert Herman Kretschmer, 80, died Tuesday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church with Chaplain Stanley Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Kretschmer was born in Haskell, where he married Dora Zelisko in 1938, and was a farmer. He was a Mattson school trustee and was a member of the Sons of Herman Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, of Haskell; two daughters, Margie Hogan of Wichita Falls and Dorinda Lain of Bollingbrook, Ill.; one son, Joe Kretschmer of Lubbock; one brother, Walter Kretschmer of Haskell; four sisters, Lydia Ivy and Helen Dudensing, both of Stamford, Lena Haltman of Ballinger and Bettie Bittner of Haskell; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Jean Porter Sweeney
BROWNWOOD - Jean Porter Sweeney, 75, a dietician at Brownwood Memorial Hospital, later known as Brownwood Regional Medical Center, for 40 years until retiring in 1987, died Tuesday in a local hospital after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Granbury Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. in Union Presbyterian Church with Dr. Norbert Piel officiating, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sweeney was born in Granbury and was valedictorian of her graduating class at Granbury High School. She attended Texas Women's University in Denton and married Rodger Sweeney in 1944 in Brownwood. She worked as a dietician in Lake Charles, La., before moving to Brownwood in 1947. She started the cafeteria-style dining program at Howard Payne University. After retiring from the hospital field, she then opened Nutrition Services, a private practice. She also was a private consultant, a co-teacher of a food service personnel course in the Texas State Technical Institute system and a homemaker. She was a member of the American, Texas and Big Country Dietetic associations; Daughters of American Revolution and Brownwood Women's Club. She was an elder, deacon and choir member at Union Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Brownwood; two daughters, Sherry Saltzman of San Diego and Becky Cook of Garland; one brother, Garth Porter of Granbury; and five grandchildren.

James William Edwards
CISCO - James William Edwards, 73, died Wednesday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Fitzgerald officiating, directed by Chambers-Wilcox Funeral Directors.
Mr. Edwards was born in Talbot County, Ga., and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a self-employed oil producer.
Survivors include his wife, Dolly Edwards of Cisco; one son, James Edwards Jr. of North Carolina; one daughter, Brenda Edwards; and one sister, Lucille Smith of Thomaston, Ga.

Mabel Williams Cranford
JAYTON - Mabel Williams Cranford, 86, died Wednesday in a Rotan hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Jayton First Baptist Church with the Revs. Harold Harrison and H.T. Stanaland officiating. Burial will be in Double Mountain Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Aspermont.
Mrs. Cranford was born in Peacock and was the widow of Howard Williams, whom she married in 1927; and Homer Cranford, whom she married in 1988.
Survivors include one son, Bill Williams of Jayton; two daughters, Nelda Patterson of Monahans and Dorothy Cranford of Fritch; one brother, Pete Sherrod of Aspermont; one sister, Mattie Trammell of Aspermont; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The body will be at the church at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Walter Turley
COLEMAN - Walter Turley, 75, of Garland, whose wife grew up in Coleman, died Tuesday in a Garland hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Coleman Cemetery with Dr. Charles Sheffield officiating, directed by Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Turley was born in Oklahoma and married Mamie Croft Knowles in 1982 in Garland. He moved to Garland about 15 years ago from Amarillo and worked for a prothesis manufacturing company. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Garland and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, of Garland; one son, Bobby Turley of Grand Saline; one daughter, Wanda Edwards of Fort Worth; one stepson, Raymond Knowles of Garland; one sister, Oleta Harrison of Rush Springs, Okla.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; five step grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.

Glenn Magin
THROCKMORTON - Glenn L. Magin, 78, employed by the Texas Department of Transportation for 26 years until retiring in 1983, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Merriman-Archer Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Pete Bradfield and Cliff Lester officiating. Burial will be in Throckmorton Cemetery.
Mr. Magin was born in Hancock, Ill., and was a World War II veteran. He moved to Throckmorton in 1951 from Ferris, Ill., and was a farmer and rancher. He was a Baptist and was the widower of Billie Joyce Darden Magin, whom he married in 1947 in Throckmorton; and Katherine Smith Magin, whom he married in 1976 in Throckmorton.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Magin of Throckmorton and Johnny Magin of Stephenville; two daughters, Judy Carter of Keller and Glennda Ingram of Ardmore, Okla.; and six grandchildren.

Jay Linden Watts
STAMFORD - Jay Linden Watts, 51, of The Colony, a Stamford native, died Tuesday in a Carrollton hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rockdale Cemetery in Haskell County with the Rev. John Eastman officiating, directed by Tankersley Funeral Home.
Mr. Watts graduated from Lubbock High School and attended Texas Tech University. He was a Vietnam veteran and worked as an accountant in the Dallas area. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include one brother, Frank Watts of Irving; two nephews and two nieces; and one great-nephew and one great-niece.

Stephanie Renea Breaux
Stephanie Renea Breaux, 30, died Tuesday in Abilene.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Tuscola Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Hewitt officiating, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel.
Ms. Breaux was born in Abilene, where she attended school, and graduated from Abilene Beauty College. She worked as a cosmetologist and later as a nurse's aide for Hospice of the Big Country. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her fiance, Tony Riddle of Abilene; two daughters, Candace Renea Archer of Sweden and Casey Brooke Teague of Abilene; her parents, Lloyd and Sylvia Patterson of Belton; two brothers, Richie Lynn Abbott of Las Vegas, Nev., and Michael Ray Breaux of Abilene; one sister, Melissa Cartwright of Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.; her step grandmother, Patsy Patterson of Mineral Wells; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Robert Allwyn Alvis
Robert Allwyn Alvis, 43, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in South Side Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Paulding officiating. Private graveside services will be held, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Alvis was born in Austin and graduated from Cooper High School, and Hardin-Simmons and Abilene Christian universities. He was a self-employed counselor. He married Sandy Nelson in 1987 in Abilene and was a member of South Side Baptist Church, where he was active in the orchestra.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sons, Robert Joseph Alvis and Wesley Gray Alvis, both of Abilene; his father, Robert H. Alvis of Abilene; one brother, John H. Alvis II of Abilene; one sister, Kelly Diane Boyd of Houston; and three nephews and two nieces.
