Robert 'Gus' Snodgrass
BROWNWOOD - Robert A. "Gus" Snodgrass, 90, inducted into the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor in 1983, died Thursday.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Brownwood First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mr. Snodgrass was born in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School, Daniel Baker College in Brownwood and Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. In 1931, weighing 206 pounds, he set a record in the 100-yard dash of 9.7 seconds during a track meet in San Marcos on a dirt surface. That record stood until 1956 when Olympic champion Bobby Morrow broke it. Snodgrass taught school and coached in Pioneer, Blanket and Hawley.
He became principal of East Elementary School in 1943. Serving with the U.S. Navy for two years, he returned to Brownwood in 1946. He then was track coach at Brownwood High School for 20 years and his teams, during that time, won 18 district titles, a state championship in 1962, and finished as state runner-up three times. He also was an assistant principal before retiring in 1972.
He is the only male graduate of Daniel Baker College to be inducted into the Howard Payne University Hall of Fame. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserves as a chief petty officer. He was a Mason, a member of the Brownwood Rotary Club for 33 years, and a member of Heart of Texas Shrine Club, and Victory Class at First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Snodgrass of Brownwood; one daughter, Linda Bolin of San Angelo; three stepsons, Roger Richey of New Braunfels, Robert Richey of Austin and James Richey of Arlington; one brother, James Snodgrass of Coleman; one sister, Flora Crook of Coleman; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Daniel Baker Scholarship Fund, c/o Howard Payne University; or Shriner's Children Hospital in Houston.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

C.G. 'Tuff' Hutchins
CROSS PLAINS - C.G. "Tuff" Hutchins, 76, parts manager at Bishop Auto for many years, died Saturday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jim O'Dell officiating. Burial will be in Atwell Cemetery.
Mr. Hutchins was born in Trent and married Ferne Bentley in 1944 in Atwell. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Cross Plains; four sons, Jay Hutchins of Brady, Alvie Hutchins of Abilene, C.B. Hutchins of Sachse and Ronnie Hutchins of Potosi; two daughters, Bertha Lee Calderon of San Antonio and Larue Williams of Abilene; one brother, B.F. Hutchins of Atwell; 14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Guadalupe Fuentez
BRECKENRIDGE - Guadalupe Fuentez, 83, died Friday in a Fort Worth hospital.
Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Eastland with the Rev. Dale Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Eastland City Cemetery.
Mr. Fuentez was born in Silao, Mexico, and attended school in Ranger. He lived in Eastland before moving to Breckenridge in 1961. He worked for R.E. Dye Manufacturing as a machinist for 21 years until retiring in 1977. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was the widower of Antonia Gallegos Fuentez, whom he married in 1936 in Ranger.
Survivors include three sons, Paul Fuentez of Jacksonville, Fla., Lupe Fuentez and Gilbert Fuentez, both of Fort Worth; two daughters, Eleanor Moreno of Cisco and Ophelia Fuentez of Fresno, Calif.; two sisters, Antonia Cordova and Abelina Mendoza, both of Fort Worth; two brothers, Jessie Perez and John Perez, both of Fort Worth; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mildred Martin
COLORADO CITY - Mildred E. Martin, 85, died Friday in a Lubbock hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Loraine First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Loraine Cemetery, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Martin was born in Benton, Ark., and moved to the Loraine-Colorado City area in 1946. She worked as a licensed vocational nurse at Mitchell County Hospital and Valley Fair Lodge for many years until retiring. She was a member of Loraine First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Shelby of Kerrville and Joyce Northcutt of Colorado City; one son, Troy Martin; five sisters, Vinnie Rushing and Adele Smith, both of Clarksville, Myrtle Melton of Friona, and Zelma Crenshaw and Wanza Graham, both of Loraine; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pedro Rodriquez Rocha
Pedro Rodriquez Rocha, 46, died Friday at an Arlington hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church with Father David Matt officiating. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at the North's Funeral Home chapel, 242 Orange. Burial will be at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by North's Funeral Homes.
Mr. Rocha was reared in Abilene, where he married Teresa Rodriguez. He worked at the bakery in Abilene for three years. He also worked as a roofer in Arlington for 20 years.
Mr. Rocha was a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include his wife Teresa, of Arlington; two sons, Ruben Rocha and Gilbert Rocha, both of Arlington; four daughters, Patricia Rosas of Sherman, Pricilla Flores of Oklahoma, and Angel Rodriquez and Diamantina Ybarra, both of Arlington; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rosalio Rocha, both of Abilene; six brothers, Celestino Rocha, Rick Rocha, Joe Rocha, Silvano Rocha, Arthur Rocha and Efren Rocha, all of Abilene; three sisters, Margie Contreras of Tennessee and Susie Villalobas and Carmen Molina, both of Abilene; and five grandchildren.

Billy Dale Dillard
CROSS PLAINS - Billy Dale Dillard, 68, died Sunday in Abilene.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Higginbotham Chapel with Dr. Richard Chaffin officiating. Burial will be in Cross Plains Cemetery, directed by Higginbotham Funeral Home.
Mr. Dillard was born in Pioneer, and he married Joy Rutledge in Cisco in 1948. He was the city manager of Cross Plains.
Survivors include his wife, of Cross Plains; two sons, Billy Dale Dillard Jr. and Ray Dean Dillard, both of Cross Plains; one daughter, Debra Lynn Glasscock of New Braunfels; a brother, Dick Dillard of Cross Plains; a sister, Eloise Bullion of Kingsville; and nine grandchildren.

Tamara Anne Baldwin
AUSTIN - Tamara Anne Baldwin, 43, died Sunday after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Clarendon. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon, directed by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin and Robertson Funeral Home in Clarendon. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. George Episcopal Church in Austin.
Ms. Baldwin was born in Memphis, Texas. She spent her childhood in Clarendon and Abilene, where she graduated from Abilene High School in 1971. She received a bachelor's degree in telecommunications from Texas Tech University in 1976, then moved to Austin in 1977, where she lived until her death.
Ms. Baldwin worked at Abilene State School during college, then at EDS. She later worked as a technical writer at IBM, as a supervisor at Measurement Incorporated, as a sound and lighting engineer and stage manager at Live Oak Theater, and as manager of The Chromatics, an Austin band.
Ms. Baldwin also delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years. She was a member of the Austin Genealogical Society board of directors for several years and, from 1994 to 1995, served as president of that organization. She was also on the board of directors of the Austin Music Commission.
Survivors include her parents, Nellie Jon Baldwin of Austin and Dan C. Baldwin of Abilene; two sisters, Danelle Baldwin Smith of San Antonio and Tancy Baldwin of Abilene; and her special friend, Peg MacPhail of Austin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the giver's choice.

Iva Ray King
ASPERMONT - Iva Ray King, 57, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Double Mountain Cemetery with Lee Ward officiating, assisted by the Rev. Barry Taylor, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. King was born in Peacock. He married Sue Trammell in Swenson in 1965. He was an Army veteran and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Sue King of Aspermont; one son, Mike King of Aspermont; one daughter, Susan Underwood of Aspermont; two brothers, Wade W. King of Abilene and Edgar King of Fort Stockton; three sisters, Bessie Henson of Maryneal, Verbenia Carroll of Abilene and Barbara Walker of Brady; and two grandchildren.

Katherine McElheny
FORT WORTH - Katherine Florence Walker McElheny, 92, died Saturday in Fort Worth.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church. Entombment will be in Restland Abbey in Dallas, directed by Thompson's Harveson and Cole Funeral Home.
Mrs. McElheny, a retired librarian, was born in Ashburn, Ga. She graduated from Emory University Library School in Atlanta in 1929.
She was assistant librarian at Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University) and catalog librarian for Fondren Library at Southern Methodist University in Dalas.
She married Oscar Kilbourn McElheny of Dallas in 1937; he preceded her in death. She spent two years, 1945 and 1946, in Caracas, Venezuela. She then returned to Dallas in 1948, where she lived until she moved to Fort Worth in 1983.
Mrs. McElheny was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Yomac class. She was chapter CH of P.E.O., a member of the Fort Worth Lecture Foundation and the Pierian Club of Dallas, and a volunteer at Trinity Terrace in the library and country store.
Survivors include three daughters, Geraldine McElheny Skinner of Abilene, Amelia Anne McElheny Sanders of Fort Worth, and Katherine Walker McElheny Solon of St. Paul, Minn.; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Stephen Ministry of First Presbyterian Church, Pastoral Care Fund of University Christian Church, or to a charity of choice.
