Mary Longoria Gochicoa
HAMLIN - Mary Longoria Gochicoa, 82, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Assembly of God with the Rev. Ted Miller officiating. Burial will be in Hamlin East Cemetery, directed by Foster-Adams Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gochicoa was born in Ramsey and moved to Hamlin in 1934 from Eagle Lake. She was a homemaker. She was a Catholic and was the widow of Pete Acuna and Agustin L. Gochicoa.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen Stewart of Hamlin; two sons, Vicente Acuna of Tucson, Ariz., and Stanley Acuna of Kerrville; three sisters, Andrea Duarte of Houston, Conde Contreras of Phoenix, Ariz., and Severa Martinez of Snyder; two brothers, Pete Longoria of Big Lake and Jessie Longoria of Dallas; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Sherman Hendrix
BROWNWOOD - Sherman Hendrix, 61, of Lake Brownwood, died Monday near May.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Pleasant Valley Cemetery with Lee R. Jones officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mr. Hendrix was born in Alabama and worked in the oil field. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include one brother, Ben Hendrix of Lake Brownwood; three sisters, Loyette Olive and LaVonia Griffin, both of Lake Brownwood, and Mary Nolan of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.

R.E. Martin Jr.
STEPHENVILLE - R.E. Martin Jr., 76, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Stephenville First Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Murray and the Rev. Emil V. Becker officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, directed by Lacy Funeral Home.
Mr. Martin was born in Stephenville and married Opal Griffith in 1944 in Anniston, Ala. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He was a retired owner of Martin Brothers Auto Parts and was a director of Stephenville Bank & Trust. He was a Stephenville school trustee for six years and was a member of Stephenville Masonic Lodge 267, Moslah Shrine Temple, American Legion and First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Stephenville; two daughters, Diane M. Muller of Fort Worth and Sheila M. Kribbs of Hattiesburg, Miss.; and two grandchildren.

Odessa Modgling
ZEPHYR - Odessa Modgling, 76, died Monday in a Brownwood hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early with Ken Smith officiating. Burial will be in Zephyr Cemetery.
Mrs. Modgling was born in May and worked as a nurse for nursing homes in Brown County and at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Heartland Church in Brownwood and was the widow of W.Q. Modgling, whom she married in 1938 in Brownwood.
Survivors include two sons, Buck Modgling of Brownwood and Darrell Modgling of Lake Brownwood; one daughter, Debra Brown of Houston; four brothers, Thurmon White of Taft, Jesse White of Piedmont, Wilburn White of Zephyr and Troy White of Lewisville; two sisters, Anne Cockrell of Grand Prairie and Zelma Routhe of Rankin; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to Heartland Church in Brownwood.

Vernon Robert Lanter
WINTERS - Vernon Robert Lanter, 65, died Wednesday at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Winters Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Shoemake officiating.
Mr. Lanter was born in Cashmere, Wash., where he grew up, and served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He married Joyce Davis in 1956 in Winters and lived in Illinois for several years until returning to Winters in 1972. He was a farmer and rancher.
Survivors include his wife, of Winters; one son, Daniel Robert Lanter of Abilene; one daughter, Debbie Sudduth of Winters; two brothers, Dwight Lanter of Portland, Ore., and Duane Lanter of Seattle; one sister, Lois Lanter of Houston; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Christy Ann Garcia
BROWNWOOD - Christy Ann Garcia, 17, of Uvalde and formerly of Brownwood, died recently in San Antonio.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Msgr. Benedict Zientek officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Christy attended school in Uvalde and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brownwood.
Survivors include her parents, Cecil Garcia Jr. of Brownwood and Elsie Maldonado Moreno of Uvalde; two brothers, Ray Castillo Jr. and John David Castillo, both of Brownwood; one stepbrother, Joshua Robert Garcia of Brownwood; one sister, Sandra Garcia of Brownwood; her grandparents, Inez and Julia Maldonado, and Cecil and Jessie Garcia Sr., all of Brownwood; her great-grandparents, Leno Baca of New Mexico, Jose and Maria Maldonado of Colorado, and Catalina Salazar of San Antonio; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jean Cotten
WOODSON - Jean (Mrs. Boley) Cotten, 69, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Albany Cemetery with Mike Cox officiating, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home of Albany.
Mrs. Cotten was born in Throckmorton and married V.B. "Boley" Cotten in 1947 in Mineral Wells. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, of Woodson; one daughter, Carla Springer of Aspermont; one grandchild; and one aunt.

Freda Pauline Vaughn
COLEMAN - Freda Pauline Vaughn, 74, died Sunday at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Henderson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Coleman City Cemetery.
Mrs. Vaughn was born in Santa Anna and attended school in Coleman and Santa Anna. She lived in California for many years until returning to Coleman in 1983. She was a homemaker and was the widow of Jack Vaughn, whom she married in Brownwood.
Survivors include one daughter, Vickie Bodle of Jamul, Calif.; one son, Tommie Vaughn of San Diego; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Clyde Stanley 'Stan' Boose
EASTLAND - Clyde Stanley "Stan" Boose, 57, of Austin and formerly of the Big Country, died Monday in Austin.
The body will be cremated. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Wright officiating.
Mr. Boose was born in Austin and graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1958, the University of Texas at Austin in 1963 and UT School of Law in 1967. He then practiced law in Houston until 1973 when he moved to Seymour. He was a lawyer in Seymour for six years. He opened a law office for West Texas Legal Services in 1979 in Eastland and later practiced law in Cisco and Fort Worth before ill health forced his retirement in 1988. He returned to Austin in 1989. He married Linda Kay Huckabay in 1964.
He was a member of Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Texas State Bar Association, Houston Bar Association and National Rifle Association. He was a charter member of Memorial Drive Christian Church in Houston and was a member of First Christian Church in Seymour before transferring his membership to First Christian Church in Eastland and Cisco.
Survivors include two daughters, Jana Linee Boose of Austin and Donna Breanne Boose of Eastland; one sister, Bettie Boose Curry of Midlothian, Va.; one niece and one nephew; two aunts and one uncle; and several cousins.
