Sidney Compton
COLORADO CITY - Mr. Sidney A. Compton, 82, died Sunday at a Lubbock hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Colorado City Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Smith officiating, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Compton was born in Loraine. He married Ila Belle Patterson in Colorado City in 1939; she preceded him in death in 1983.
Mr. Compton was a retired stock farmer and a Baptist. He lived in Mitchell County all his life.
Survivors include his daughter, Jean Burroughs of Colorado City; his son, Larry Compton of Loraine; two sisters, Beulah Cox of Colorado City and Helen Boyce of Snyder; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ida Baldwin Denison
OLD GLORY - Ida Baldwin Denison, 64, died Sunday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Rule with the Rev. Daniel Ramey officiating. Burial will be in Rule Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Aspermont.
Mrs. Denison was born in Stonewall County. She was the widow of Bill Denison, whom she married in Rule in 1953. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rule, where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Texas Methodist Women's Conference. She attended Texas Christian University and was active in the oil and ranching business.
Survivors include two sons, Bob Marshall Denison and John Wayne Denison, both of Aspermont, and six grandchildren.

Cecil Earl Davis
EARLY - Cecil Earl Davis, 83, of Grosvenor and formerly of Andrews, died Monday at a Goldthwaite nursing home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery with Bill Merritt officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home.
Mr. Davis was born in Goree. He married Elsie Myrle Walker in Colorado City in 1934. He was an automobile mechanic and attended Grosvenor Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Myrle Davis of Grosvenor; one daughter, Mary Furry of Grosvenor; one sister, Lola Radford of Paris; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Patsy LaNell Hardin Lewis
STAMFORD - Patsy LaNell Hardin Lewis, 58, died Sunday at an Abilene nursing home after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. in the Highland Memorial Cemetery with Chad Massie officiating, directed by Kinney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lewis was born in Weslaco and graduated from Rule High School. She served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1961. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughter, Gwena Hargrove of Stamford; her son, Mark Goodell of Palestine; two brothers, Jerry Hardin of Rosenburg and Don Hardin of Abilene; and one grandchild.
Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association.

Guy F. Abbott
CISCO - Guy F. Abbott, 89, died Monday at an Eastland hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Young officiating, assisted by the Rev. Otis Brown. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Mr. Abbott was born in Eastland County. He married Viola Brown in Graham in 1938.
He was a retired truck driver for the street department of the city of Cisco and a member of East Cisco Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Viola Abbott of Cisco; a son, Lonnie Abbott of Cisco; a brother, O.M. Abbott of Brownwood; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Juanita Martinez
Juanita Martinez, 69, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Uecker officiating, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.
Mrs. Martinez was born in Marathon and moved to Abilene in 1973 from Del Rio. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and was the widow of Alfred Martinez.
Survivors include six sons, Rodolfo Martinez, Juan Martinez Jr., Alfredo Martinez, Jose Martinez and Robert Martinez, all of Abilene, and Ruben Martinez of Bryan; five daughters, Isidra Serrano, Gloria Vasquez, Elizabeth Gomez and Rosa Martinez, all of Abilene, and Velma Martinez of San Angelo; one brother, Celto Corando of Sonora; two sisters, Rosa Garcia of Rock Springs and Maria Marurrjo of Del Rio; 38 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

J.D. Lane
J.D. Lane, 75, maintenance worker at Hendrick Medical Center for 23 years before retiring in 1990, died Thursday at his home.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with Dr. Jim Poe and the Rev. Jerry Paulding officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Wiley Funeral Home of Granbury.
Mr. Lane was born in Byrd's Store, Texas, and moved to Abilene in 1950. He was the widower of Edna McCrary Lane, whom he married in 1945 in Cisco. He married Mary Lou McCook Goad in 1996 in Abilene and was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one son, Wilford Phillips of Tyler; one daughter, Bernyce Allison of Deer Park; three stepsons, Jim Goad of England, Jerry Goad of Austin and David Goad of California; one stepdaughter, Linda Roberts of Fayetteville, Texas; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Donny David Doster
STAMFORD - Donny Doster, 57, formerly of Commerce, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Commerce Church of Christ with David Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Brigham Cemetery in Campbell, directed by Pemberton Funeral Home of Commerce. Local arrangements were made by Tankersley Funeral Home.
Mr. Doster was born in Amarillo and earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from East Texas State University in Commerce. He moved to Stamford in 1978 from Commerce. He was vice-president of Truco Properties Inc., which included being regional manager of nursing home facilities that included Teakwood Manor in Stamford. He married Judy Freeman in 1986 in Stamford and was vice president of the Stamford Ambulance board of directors. He also was a director of Stamford Memorial Hospital and was a member of Stamford Kiwanis Club and Stamford Men's Golf Association.
Survivors include his wife, of Stamford; one son, Mack Doster of Commerce; two stepsons, Jason Wilson and Cole Wilson, both of Stamford; one sister, Barbara Hubbard of San Antonio; and one niece.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. today at Tankersley Funeral Home.

Nell Bowden
CROSS PLAINS - Nell Bowden, 78, owner of Highway 36 Motel, formerly Odoms, for many years, died Wednesday in Eastland County.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Pipes officiating. Burial will be in Cross Plains Cemetery.
Mrs. Bowden married Gerald A. Bowden in 1986 and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Brad Bowden of Cross Plains; one daughter, Betsy Bowden of Possum Kingdom; one brother, Cye Page of Brownwood; one sister, Estelle Lemmons of Brownwood; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Jack Dennis Thornton
MIDLAND - Jack Dennis Thornton, 73, formerly of Jayton, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating.
Mr. Thornton was born in Royston and graduated from Jayton High School. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and married Eula Vern Rushing in 1946. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1949 and moved to Midland. He worked with the Midland Junior Baseball Association for many years and was a former association commissioner. He was a member of the American and West Texas associations of Petroleum Geologists; Midland Optimist Club and Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Midland; two sons, Forrest Wayne Thornton of Lubbock and J.B. Thornton of Midland; one sister, Marjorie Dale Kisselberg of Brownwood; one grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
