Margaret Stone
BROWNWOOD - Margaret Stone, 73, of Cason Cove at Lake Brownwood, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early with the Rev. Kevin Hollowell officiating.
Mrs. Stone was born in Amarillo and graduated from Plainview High School in 1939. She was a homemaker and was active in the Elks Lodge for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church and was the widow of Maxwell Stone, whom she married in 1954.
Survivors include one son, Robert Marshall of Holly Springs, N.C.; one daughter, Vickie Mitchell of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Jerry Allen and Don Allen, both of Plainview; one sister, Sue McPherson of Houston; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Texas Crippled Children's Hospital.

Jane Bunting
DE LEON - Jane Bunting, 72, of Denton and formerly of De Leon, died Wednesday at her home.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday in Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in De Leon Cemetery.
Mrs. Bunting worked as a retail office clerk. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Ray Bunting, whom she married in 1946 in De Leon.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Redfoot of Denton and Charlotte Philley of Lynshurst, N.J.; one sister, Mildred Hubbard of Little Rock, Ark.; and five grandchildren.

William 'Willie' Laird
BROWNWOOD - William L. "Willie" Laird, 83, produce manager at JRB Grocery for 29 years, died Thursday in a local nursing home after a three-year illness.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Eastlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Bill Allen officiating, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mr. Laird was born at Honey Island and attended Howard Payne College. He moved to Brownwood in 1937. He married Martha Frances Taylor in 1939 in Brownwood and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; one daughter, Pam Shields of Brownwood; three sons, Billy Laird of Lake Brownwood, Jim Laird of Allen and Ronnie Laird of Brownwood; one brother, Elmer Laird of Grandview; three sisters, Elizabeth Gilcrest and Odelia Roberson, both of Liberty, and Emma Atkinson of Grapeland; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to Buckner Children's Home, Buckner Benevolences, 5200 S. Buckner, Dallas 75227.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Mary Anna Petty
COLEMAN - Mary Anna Petty, 89, of Arlington and formerly of Coleman, died Thursday in an Arlington nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with James Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery.
Mrs. Petty was born in Burnet and attended school in Littlefield in Coryell County. She worked as a seamstress and was a homemaker. She moved to Santa Anna in 1930, Bangs in 1941, Novice in 1949, Coleman in 1955 and Arlington in 1994. She was a member of Elm Street Church of Christ and was the widow of Matthew Petty, whom she married in 1923 in Lampasas.
Survivors include three daughters, Anna Mae Byrd of Arlington, Lillian Rathmell of San Antonio and Billie Joy Williams of Millersview; four sisters, Dollie Alexander of Lampasas, Frances Parks of San Saba, Odessa Parks of Bay City and Nancy Doyle of Moran; one brother, Leon Stewart of San Saba; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Juanita Martinez
Juanita Martinez, 69, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Uecker officiating, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.
Mrs. Martinez was born in Marathon and moved to Abilene in 1973 from Del Rio. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and was the widow of Juan Martinez.
Survivors include six sons, Rodolfo Martinez, Juan Martinez Jr., Alfredo Martinez, Jose Martinez and Robert Martinez, all of Abilene, and Ruben Martinez of Bryan; five daughters, Isidra Serrano, Gloria Vasquez, Elizabeth Gomez and Rosa Martinez, all of Abilene, and Velma Martinez of San Angelo; one brother, Celto Corando of Sonora; two sisters, Rosa Garcia of Rock Springs and Maria Marurrjo of Del Rio; 38 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Edward Kohutek
ROWENA - Edward R. Kohutek, 80, painter and carpenter for many years before retiring, died Thursday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Protestant Cemetery with Msgr. Kevin Heyburn officiating, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home of Ballinger.
Mr. Kohutek was born in Granger and lived in Pilot Point, Groenwald and Miles before moving to Rowena at a young age. He won the Golden Glove heavyweight boxing championship in 1939 in Abilene and married Claudine Malish in 1941 in Rowena. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, of Rowena; two brothers, Anton Kohutek of Taylor, Texas, and Amos Kohutek of Anaheim, Calif.; three sisters, Emma Trojcak, Mary Perotti and Christine Mitchell, all of San Angelo; and six nephews and four nieces.

Zane McNeill
ALBANY - Zane K. McNeill, 43, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 6:30 p.m. today in Johnson Cemetery on State Hwy 6 south of Albany with the Rev. Bruce Stovall officiating, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home.
Mr. McNeill was born in Winters and married DeLisa "Sissy" Davis in 1985 in Albany. He formerly worked as a trooper for the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was employed by Albany Chemical Co. at the time of his death. He was a member of the Abilene chapter of Football Officials Association and Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Albany; two daughters, Shannon McNeill of Wichita Falls and Amy McNeill of Amarillo; two sons, Zane Phillip McNeill and Jake K. McNeill, both of Albany; his parents, Jon K. and LaVoy McNeill of Wingate; three brothers, Dick McNeill of Wingate, Kent McNeill of San Angelo and Flint McNeill of Midland; and three sisters, Judy Scott of Wink, Jan Oden of Albany and Jill McClellan of Abilene.

Elsie Lauw Kohutek
SWEETWATER - Elsie Lauw Kohutek, 80, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Salem Lutheran Church in Roscoe with the Rev. Keith Kreitzer officiating. Burial will be in Roscoe Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Kohutek was born in Dewitt County and was a homemaker. She moved in 1946 to Inadale, where she farmed, and to Sweetwater in 1983. She was a member of First Salem Lutheran Church in Roscoe and was the widow of Emil Kohutek, whom she married in 1940 in Miles.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Feagan of Sweetwater; and one grandchild.

Worth Gilbert 'Shorty' Gafford
MUNDAY - Worth Gilbert "Shorty" Gafford, 95, died Friday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Johnson Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. E. Hardy Cole officiating, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Meador was born in Coleman and moved to Munday in 1934. He worked as a barber. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was the widower of Irene Burroughs Gafford, whom he married in 1923 in Coleman.
Survivors include one son, Joe "Buddy" Gafford of Drury, Mo.; one brother, Warren Gafford of Stuart, Fla.; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mary Ellen Reed Meador
SAN ANGELO - Mary Ellen Reed Meador, 73, formerly of Breckenridge, died Thursday.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in San Angelo First United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. in Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder, directed by Johnson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Meador was born in Breckenridge. She was the widow of Roy Verner Meador Jr., whom she married in 1947 in Breckenridge.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Hewitt and Valli Ann Kerr; one brother, Gilbert Reed; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to the music program or building fund at San Angelo First United Methodist Church.
