Lavinia Harris
Lavinia Harris, 88, died Wednesday at a local nursing home. Her body was cremated.
Mrs. Harris was born in Birmingham, Ala. where she was a graduate of Birmingham Southern College. She did graduate work at Richmond School of Social Work.
She married John Bunch Harris in 1944 at Ft. Bragg, N.C. She was active in the Social Work profession in Houston where she moved in 1949. She had been a counselor in Houston ISD for over 20 years. She moved to Abilene in 1986.
Mrs. Harris was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Temple Fourment of Abilene; one sister, Eliza Brunson of Mobile, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Windcrest Alzheimer's Care Center, 6050 Hospital Drive, Abilene, Texas 79606.

Lillie Mae Hicks
COMANCHE - Lillie Mae Hicks, 86, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Hall & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Raymond Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Indian Creek Cemetery directed by the funeral home.
Mrs. Hicks was born in Hasse, Texas. She was the widow of J.J. Hicks whom she married in 1929 in Comanche. Mrs. Hicks was a homemaker and a member of the Sidney Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Raymond Hicks of Comanche; three daughters, Billie Reed of Comanche, Joyce Ward of College Station and Mary Hall of Sidney; two brothers, Bill Creek of Marble Falls and Jack Creek of Goldthwaite; one sister Mamie Vance of Marble Falls; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Indian Creek Cemetery Association, Comanche, Texas.

Zachary Shawn Ortega
BROWNWOOD - Zachary Shawn Ortega, infant son of Elsa Garza and Joe Ortega died Thursday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Babyland of Eastlawn Memorial Park of Early directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Survivors include his parents, Elsa Garza and Joe Ortega of Brownwood; one brother, Jonathan Andrew Ortega of Brownwood; his grandparents, Boni and Allcia Iberra of Brownwood, Valentin and Concepcion Ortega of Del Rio and Ike Garza, Sr. of Coleman; his great-grandparents, Manuel and Margarita Herra, Sr. of Oxard, Calif. and Andres and Hartencia Rodriques of Mexico; and several aunts and uncles.

Erma "Jerry" Sturm
MERKEL - Erma "Jerry" Sturm, 83, died Tuesday in Abilene.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel with Rev. Brad Reeves officiating directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sturm was born in Findlay, Ohio. She was the widow of Ralph K. Carlin and William L. "Bill" Sturm.
Mrs. Sturm was a secretary for a naval weapons center at China Lake, Calif. and a secretary at Point Mugu, Calif. She was a member of several card clubs and a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Larry Sturm of Moreno Valley, Calif.; one daughter, Judy Kingston of Merkel; one sister, Velma Fout of Findlay, Ohio; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Zetta Pierce
BROWNWOOD - Zetta Pierce, 95, died Wednesday in a Goldthwaite nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Eastlawn Memorial Park directed by the funeral home. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Mrs. Pierce was born in May, Texas. She spent most of her life in Brown County where she was a homemaker. She was the widow of O.L. Pierce whom she married in 1923. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Brownwood.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary June Riley of Vero Beach, Fla.; two sons, Gene Pierce of Nashville, Tenn. and Howard Pierce of Marble Falls; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Marie Hurst
COLEMAN - Marie Hurst, 79, formerly of Houston died Thursday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble directed by Stevens Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hurst was born in New Jersey where she lived until age 13. She moved to Houston and lived there until moving to Coleman four years ago. She was the widow of Joe Hurst and was employed for 27 years at Frito-Lay. She was a Christian.
Survivors include two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Erin Linn Klappenbach
GORMAN - Erin Linn Klappenbach, 64, died Wednesday at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today with Bob Beeman officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery directed by Higginbotham Funeral Home.
Mrs. Klappenbach was born in Austin. She was a housewife and an Episcopalian.
Survivors include two sons, Richard and Steve Klappenbach, both of Houston; one daughter, Lisa Hilt of Houston; one sister, Gerry Chism of Brinkley, Ark.; one brother, Rudolph "Rudy" Haile of Fort Worth; and nine grandchildren.

Guinn Edward Caskey
TUSCOLA - Guinn Edward Caskey, 81, died Wednesday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Parker Cemetery near Grapeland directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home.
Mr. Caskey was born in Grapeland where he graduated from high school in 1932. He married Oleta Cox in 1933 in Grapeland. He was a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He also worked for 34 years for Lone Star Producing Co., now Ensearch. He lived in Grapeland, Tyler, Bronte, Breckenridge, Ranger and Gordon before moving to Tuscola in 1974. He was a charter member of the American Legion Post in Breckenridge and a member of the Tuscola post. He was a member of Winona Baptist Church near Tyler.
Survivors include his wife, Oleta Caskey of Tuscola; one son Kenneth Caskey of Houston; one daughter, Gweneth Hendrix of Tuscola; and one sister, Eva Cummings of Grapeland.

Sandra 'Sandy' Lee Lund
Sandra "Sandy" Lee Lund, 48, died Wednesday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Highway 277 South, with the Rev. Arthur Lowe officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Lund was born in Minneapolis, Minn., and moved to Abilene from Alamogordo, N.M., in 1991. She married Mark Lund in Tucson, Ariz., in 1976. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Abilene and was a volunteer worker with Boy Scouts.
Survivors include her husband, Mark Lund of Abilene; a son, Brandon Lund of Abilene; her mother, Maggie Schug of Hopkins, Minnesota; four brothers, Gary Schug, Dan Schug and Bruce Schug of Hopkins, Minn., and George Schug, Jr. of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; and three sisters, Robin Schug, Pam Nicholson and Shirley Schug of Hopkins, Minn.

Mary Virginia Harris
ROTAN - Mary Virginia Harris, 85, died Thursday at a Waco nursing home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Weathersbee Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Scott officiating. Burial will be in the Belvieu Cemetery of Rotan.
Mrs. Harris was born in Comanche. She was the widow of Printice C. Harris whom she married in 1931 in Rotan. She had lived there most of her life. She has lived in Waco for the past 15 years. Mrs. Harris was a homemaker and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Bill Adair of Tracy, Calif., LeWayne Harris and Walter Harris of Hewitt and Hubert Harris of Axtell; four daughters, LaRue Baker of Euless, Louise Wood of Brownwood, Carolyn Harris of Euless and Regenia Tumbarello of Uvalde; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
