Ollie Rivers Mapes
Ollie Rivers Mapes, 95, of Houston, sister of an Abilene resident, died Friday in a The Woodlands nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Elmwood Memorial Park with Dr. Tom Thomson officiating, directed by Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Mrs. Mapes was born in Coleman County and ranched in Ballinger for 29 years. She was the widow of Samuel Fred Mapes, whom she married in 1924 in Ballinger.
Survivors include two daughters, Marjorie Jean Simpson of Houston and Mary Elizabeth Harral of Whitney; two sons, Fred D. Mapes of Wichita Falls and Charles D. Mapes of Crane; one sister, Thesia Iona White of Abilene; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Fred Giles
Fred N. Giles, 92, died Saturday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Elmwood Memorial Park with Luther Hollowell officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Mr. Giles was born in Trent and graduated from North Texas State University. He moved to Abilene in 1952 and taught at Lincoln Junior High School until retiring in 1969 from the Abilene school system. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was the widower of Mary Wells Amerson Giles, whom he married in 1932 in Hillsboro.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice Alderman of Odessa; one brother, Max Giles of Abilene; one sister, Mrs. C.T. Ellza of Cisco; and one grandchild.
Memorials may be sent to West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene 79605; Hendrick Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1922, Abilene 79604; or Sears Methodist Center Benevolent Care Fund, 3233 S. Willis, Abilene 79605.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Petra Rodriquez
ROTAN -- Petra Rodriquez, 93, died Saturday at her daughter's home in Abilene.
Services will be at 6 p.m. today in Weathersbee Funeral Home Chapel. A second service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Rotan First Baptist Church with the Rev. Eleazar Maciel officiating. Burial will be in Rotan Cemetery.
Mrs. Rodriquez was born in Matamoros, Coahuila, Mexico, and was a homemaker. She moved to Fisher County in 1927 from Smithville. She was a member of Ambler Baptist Church and was the widow of Isaias Rodriquez, whom she married in 1919 in Bastrop.
Survivors include three sons, Santiago Rodriquez of Abilene, Ike Rodriquez of Rotan and Daniel Rodriquez of Moreno Valley, Calif.; four daughters, Maria Rodriquez and Petra Rodriquez, both of Abilene, Lydia Yanez of Rotan and Rachael Martinez of Moreno Valley, Calif.; 43 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.

David Ray Hinojosa
BROWNWOOD -- David Ray Hinojosa, infant son of Louis and Diana Hinojosa of Brownwood, died Thursday in a Fort Worth hospital.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Eastlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Dan Wright officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Other survivors include one sister, Miranda Hinojosa of Brownwood; one half-brother, Jonathan Moreno of Brownwood; two half-sisters, Ashley Moreno and Julie Hinojosa, both of Brownwood; his grandparents, Ray and Alberta Moreno, and Cosme Hinojosa, all of Brownwood; his great-grandparents, Delores Moreno of Brownwood and Lupe Barrigan of Lancaster; and four aunts and one uncle.

Johnny Martinez DeAnda
BROWNWOOD -- Johnny Martinez DeAnda, 57, lifelong local resident, died Saturday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early with the Rev. John Villarreal officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. DeAnda was born in Brown County and attended school in Brownwood. He married Bobbie Bratton in 1978 in Brownwood and worked for the Texas Youth Commission for 10 years. He was a director of C.T.O. and received the first Chicano of the Year Award in 1972. He was a member of the Jaycees and Milton Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; one son, Joe Paul DeAnda of Brownwood; four daughters, Mary Elizabeth DeAnda, Gloria Field and Frances Leinbaugh, all of Brownwood, and Alice Cole of Birmingham, Ala.; four brothers, Joe DeAnda of Proctor, Raul Martinez Sr. of Granbury, David Martinez of Brownwood and Raymond Martinez of Huntsville; two sisters, Elvira Ortiz and Raquel De Le Cruez, both of Fort Worth; and seven grandchildren.

Helen Selby
BALLINGER - Helen M. Selby, 75, died Friday on a cruise liner in the Caribbean.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dale Schultz and Robert Cavanaugh officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Selby was born in Hillsboro and graduated from Abbott High School in 1938. She graduated from North Texas State University with a bachelor's degree in 1941 and from Hardin-Simmons University with a master's degree in 1958. She taught at Southland, then moved to Ballinger in 1946 and began teaching there the following year. She retired in 1982 after 35 years with the Ballinger Independent School District, then worked for Dr. John Green for several years and for Ballinger Memorial Hospital. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Retired Teachers Association. She married William "Bill" Selby in 1940 in Denton.
Survivors include her husband, of Ballinger; one daughter, Billie Brown of Ballinger; one son, Tommy Selby of Corpus Christi; one brother, Walter Duff of Elkhart; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or to the donor's favorite charity.

James Thomas Phillips
James Thomas Phillips, 63, died Saturday in Dallas.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at 17th and Mesquite Church of Christ with Curtis Johnson officiating, directed by Curtis-Starks Funeral Home, 542 E.N. 7th.
Mr. Phillips was born in Haskell. He attended school in Haskell and was employed by Duck's Real Estate Co.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Phillips of Lubbock and Yolanda Phillips of Lamesa; four brothers, Jalil Hakim of Milwaukee, Wis., Robert Henny of Abilene, Vernon of Los Angeles and Douglas of Kansas; four sisters, Bessie Samuel, Vernece Hunter and Ethel Bryant, all of Abilene, and Lathita Ahmod of Milwaukee; three stepchildren, Debra Butler, Charles Hunter and Delwayne Hunter, all of Lamesa; five grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
The family will be at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. today.

Thomas Yarbrough
Thomas L. Yarbrough, 70, of Abilene died Saturday.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Oplin Cemetery in Oplin with Doyle Pruitt officiating, directed by Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy. 277 South.
Mr. Yarbrough was born in Oplin and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include one son, Elvey Yarbrough of Abilene; two daughters, Carol Cristadoro of Frisco and Rhonda Jaso of Wylie; one brother, Bailey Yarbrough of Brownfield; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ernestine Tucker Verner
PALESTINE, Tex. - Ernestine Tucker Verner, 72, formerly of Abilene, died Sunday.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Muse Cemetery with the Rev. David Darst officiating, directed by Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mrs. Verner was born in Kaufman County and was a nurse's aide. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She was the widow of Charles Briscoe Verner.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Franklin of Neches and Iris Hodges of Lubbock; seven sons, Charles Patrick Verner of Orlando, Fla., Richard Greg Verner and Michael Eugene Verner, both of Abilene, Robert Briscoe Verner of Waco, Roger Dale Verner and Thomas Franklin Verner, both of Lebanon, Ore., and Dennis Randall Verner of Hawley; one sister, Vera Nelson of Albany, Ore.; 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Hattie Bell (Key) Jones
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Hattie Bell (Key) Jones, 79, died Saturday.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in East Lawn Cemetery, directed by W.F. Gromley & Sons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jones was born and attended school in Potosi. She moved to California and worked at Mare Island Naval Yard. She retired from Weinstocks Department Store in 1976. She married Frank A. Jones in Abilene; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Ann Jones of Sacramento; one son, William "Bill" Jones of Roseville, Calif.; one brother, Horace Key of Potosi; and two grandchildren.
