L Z Nichols, 76, died Tuesday from injuries received in an automobile accident in Gatesville.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Buffalo Gap Cemetery with Weldon Gann officiating, directed by North's Funeral Home, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road.
Mr. Nichols was born in Palo Pinto County and grew up in Abilene. He was a longtime Abilene resident and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a mechanic, carpenter and car dealer for many years.
Survivors include four sons, Jerry Nichols, Bill Nichols and Danny Nichols, all of Angleton, and Ken Nichols of Abilene; one brother, Kenneth Nichols of Yuba City, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
The family will be at 225 E.S. 27th.

Andrew 'Andy' Ussery
JAYTON -- Andrew "Andy" Ussery, 70, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Jayton Cemetery with the Rev. David Fletcher officiating, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Aspermont.
Mr. Ussery was born in Abilene and married Effie Freeman in 1955 in Lovington, N.M. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked as a carpenter. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, of Jayton; one son, Jack Ussery of Abilene; one daughter, Grace Ussery of Crane; two brothers, Charles S. Ussery of Mesa, Ariz., and Ernest B. "Chalk" Ussery of Buchanan Dam; and seven grandchildren.

Marie McDonald Goodin
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Marie McDonald Goodin, 88, mother of an Abilene resident, died Wednesday in a local retirement center.
The body will be cremated. Private services will be held in University Terrace Good Samaritan Village Chapel. Arrangements are being made by Graham Mortuary and Mesilla Valley Crematory.
Mrs. Goodin was born in Sheridan, Ark., and was a homemaker. She returned to Las Cruces in 1954. She was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and was the widow of Marion J. Goodin Sr.
Survivors include one son, Jeff Goodin of Abilene; one daughter, Quala Maphis of Boulder, Colo.; two brothers, Jimmie McDonald of Hot Springs, Ark., and Donald McDonald of Little Rock, Ark.; one sister, Sue Crutchfield of Dallas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Velda Fulcher
SLATON -- Velda Fulcher, 79, formerly of Abilene, died Wednesday in a Lubbock care facility.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Englunds Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Cleve Kerby and the Rev. Howard Quiett officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. in Buffalo Gap Cemetery.
Mrs. Fulcher was born in Comanche County and married Truett Fulcher in 1938 in Abilene. She was a former member of the Slaton Art Club. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Huguenot Society of America and First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Rodney Fulcher of Abilene; one sister, Garnet Quiett of Snyder; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

Thelma Dean Trammell
NOVICE -- Thelma Dean Trammell, 85, of Norman, Okla., and formerly of Novice, died Wednesday in Norman.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Rough Creek Cemetery in Coleman County with the Rev. Audie Cathey officiating, directed by Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.
Mrs. Trammell was born in Palo Pinto County and moved to Coleman County in 1942. She was a homemaker and moved to Norman, Okla. in 1996. She was a member of Novice Baptist Church and was the widow of Joe Trammell, whom she married in 1942 in Ballinger.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan Osborn of Norman, Okla.; one sister, Jean Harvick of Texas; three brothers, Lois Gregg of Houston, and Jarvis Gregg and Charles Gregg, both of Athens, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Opal Boger
MUNDAY -- Opal Boger, 80, owner and operator of Opal's Beauty Salon for many years, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Munday First United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Sterling officiating. Burial will be in Johnson Memorial Cemetery, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Boger was born in Sherman and was a longtime Munday resident. She married James Boger in 1958 in Munday and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Munday; two brothers, Carl Booe and J.B. Booe, both of Munday; three sisters, Hazel Roden of Seymour, and Gladys Hunter and Mary Frances Stewart, both of Munday; and several nieces and nephews.

Vernie Rae Canant
Vernie Rae Canant, 68, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. H.G. Barnard officiating. The body will be cremated.
Mrs. Canant was born in Chickasha, Okla., where she graduated from high school, and moved to Abilene in 1946. She worked as a nurse at both Sears Retirement Center and Care Inn of Abilene until retiring. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Charles Canant, whom she married in 1954 in Dallas.
Survivors include two sons, Russell Charles Canant of Harrah, Okla., and Clifford Ray Canant of Carlile, Pa.; one daughter, Terri Adams of Abilene; three brothers, C.J. Cotton of Arkansas, L.L. Cotton of Houston and Gene Cotton of Merkel; one sister, Leona Miller of Abilene; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 1342 Palm.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

Mary Lou Sloan
Mary Lou Sloan, 88, formerly of Abilene, died Tuesday in Houston.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel.
Mrs. Sloan was born in Merkel. She was a member of First Christian Church in Abilene and was the widow of Ted Sloan, whom she married in 1936 in Merkel.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Cass of Houston, Bunnie Lou Myers of Poulsbo, Wash., and Sherrilyn Sibold of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one brother, Bill Comegys of Houston; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Lula Beall
Lula L. Beall, 99, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel with Howard Lang officiating, directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Mrs. Beall was born in Merkel, where she grew up, and was a homemaker. She farmed in Taylor County for many years. She lived on the West Coast in the 1940s and in Oregon in the 1950s. She returned to Abilene in 1993. She was a Methodist and was the widow of Noble Bruce Beall, whom she married in 1915 in Merkel.
Survivors include one daughter, Opeal Wiggins of Abilene; one son, Billy Wayne Beall of Eugene, Ore.; one sister, Beulah Cox of Fort Worth; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 402 Jeanette.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
