Gene Franklin
Gene Franklin, 83, of Potosi, lifelong Taylor County resident, died Thursday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Highway 36 Church of Christ with Ed Headrick officiating. Burial will be in Potosi Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Franklin was born in Taylor County and married Lena Belle Taylor in 1936 in Fort Worth. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps' intelligence division during World War II. He worked as a barber and was a stock farmer. He was a former Wylie school trustee. He was an elder and charter member of Highway 36 Church of Christ and also was church treasurer for 33 years.
Survivors include his wife, of Potosi; two sons, Ted Franklin of Irving and Terry Franklin of Abilene; three brothers, Jack Franklin and Reed Franklin, both of Abilene, and Lannie Franklin of Potosi; one sister, Marie Underwood of Hobbs, N.M.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Sammye Steddum Higgins
ALBANY -- Sammye Steddum Higgins, 88, died Friday in Albany.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Albany First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Tunnell officiating. Burial will be in Albany Cemetery, directed by Morehart Mortuary.
Mrs. Higgins was born in Mills County and graduated from high school in Berryhill. She worked as a licensed vocational nurse at hospitals in Albany, Kermit, Pecos and Fairfield. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was the widow of Ocie Lee Steddum, whom she married in 1930; and Ed Higgins, whom she married in 1969.
Survivors include three children, Mary Belle Steddum Jones of Mentone, Ocie Mozelle Steddum Bartee of Albany and Thomas D. Steddum of Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico; three sisters, Imogene Cox Burrus of Abilene, Savonne Cox Giddins of Midland and Carlene Cox Craver of Breckenridge; one brother, Glen Cox of Haskell; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Remodeling Fund or a favorite charity and left at the funeral home.

Florence Chadwell
RANGER -- Florence E. Chadwell, 82, of Lake Livingston and formerly of Ranger, died Friday in Houston.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. James Upshaw officiating, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.
Mrs. Chadwell was born in Clyde and married Roland J. Chadwell in 1935 in Carlsbad, N.M. She worked as an accountant and bookkeeper for more than 30 years until retiring. She lived in Houston for many years until moving to Lake Livingston in 1980.
Survivors include her husband, of Lake Livingston; three sons, Roland G. Chadwell, James R. Chadwell and Thomas W. Chadwell; one brother, Travis Bryan; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph Steggall Sr.
CISCO -- Joseph E. Steggall Sr., 80, died Sunday in a Waco hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dutch Baziel officiating. Arrangements were made by Chambers-Wilcox Funeral Directors.
Mr. Steggall was born in Anamosa, Iowa, and married Linda Alman in 1973. He was retired from the trucking business. He owned and operated the White Elephant Restaurant from 1991-94.
Survivors include his wife, of Lincoln, Neb.; six sons, Lyle Steggall and Rodger Steggall, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Donald Steggall of Chicago, and Michael Steggall, Brian Steggall and Andrew Steggall, all of Cisco; four daughters, Charlotte Miller of Torrance, Calif., Margaret Dumas of Hayward, Wisc., Holly Schedule of Bedford and Patrica Older of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one brother, Francis Steggall of Marble Falls; three sisters, Julia Berta of Marble Falls, and Bernice HonKomp and Pat Hauson, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Johnnie Lee Alexander
SWEETWATER -- Johnnie Lee Alexander, 91, died Thursday in a local care facility.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Roscoe Cemetery with Phil Collard officiating, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Roscoe.
Mrs. Alexander was born in Mobeetie and lived in Nolan County most of her life. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Friendship Club in Roscoe and Church of Christ, and was the widow of William Jasper "Bill" Alexander, whom she married in 1927 in Sweetwater.
Survivors include two sons, Darwin Dean Alexander of Houston and Stanley G. Alexander of Austin; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

James 'Jed' Harrison
CROSS PLAINS -- James Dalton "Jed" Harrison, 72, brother of two Eastland residents, died Thursday at his son's home in Terrell.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland with the Rev. Jim Odell and Alvin Hutchins officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery.
Mr. Harrison worked in the trucking and ranching business.
Survivors include his wife, Jimmie Beth Todd Harrison of Cross Plains; one son, Neil Craig Harrison of Terrell; one brother, John Harrison of Eastland; one sister, Burma Lee Bradford of Eastland; two grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Belva Curry Whittington
RULE -- Belva Curry Whittington, 86, of Lubbock and formerly of Rule, died Friday in a Tahoka nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Rule First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Burial will be in Rule Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors of Haskell.
Mrs. Whittington was born in Pinkerton in Haskell County and graduated from Rule High School and West Texas State University in Canyon. She taught school for 42 years and her career included Ballew, Bunker Hill and New Cook, all in Haskell County, and Hall County and, for eight years until retiring, Tahoka. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Jess E. Whittington, whom she married in 1942 in Potter County.
Survivors include two brothers, John B. Curry and Rogers Curry, both of Lubbock; one sister, Mrs. Robert Darnell of Haskell; and many nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Jean Horn
Elizabeth Jean Horn, 74, formerly of Houston, died Friday in a local care facility.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mark's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kelly Schneider officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Horn was born in Cisne, Ill., where she graduated from high school, and moved to Abilene in 1992 from Houston. She was a member of St. Stevens Episcopal Church in Houston and was the widow of Ronald Ralph Horn, whom she married in 1952 in Houston.
Survivors include one son, Richard Horn of Abilene; one daughter, Heather Ann Burleson of Shepherd; and one granddaughter, Abigail Horn of Abilene.

Bobby Joe Ramsey
Bobby Joe Ramsey, 59, died Friday in a local hospital.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Monday in View Baptist Church with the Rev. George Rake officiating. Arrangements were made by Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Mr. Ramsey was born in Cottonwood and attended school at Butterfield, Mount Pleasant and Wylie Central. He served with the National Guard. He worked in the oil field, road construction and helped build the Amstead Dam in Del Rio. He was an Eagle Scout in Troop 72 and was the widower of Elizabeth "Cookie" Clark Ramsey.
Survivors include three daughters, Audrey E. Heard of Mexia, Tracie A. Williams of Abilene and Retha Elkins of Paris, Tenn.; two sons, Butch Hester Jr. of Henry, Tenn., and Timothy D. Ramsey of Abilene; his parents, Joe and Edna Ramsey of Caps; four brothers, John Clayton Ramsey of Irving, Joseph Wayne Ramsey of Tuscola, Jim Eugene Ramsey of Faxon, Tenn., and James Howard Ramsey of Abilene; eight sisters, Margaret Alene McQueen of Locker, Wanda Marie Wolf of Greenville, Susie Francis Wallace, Linda Joyce Voyles, Dixie Louise McCracken and Jean Carrol Parsons, all of Abilene, Mary Helen Nurmi of Tye and Mildred Annett Liske of Alaska; 21 grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
