Fred Lloyd Kerstell
Fred Lloyd Kerstell, 33, died Saturday in a Snyder hospital.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory. The body will be cremated.
Mr. Kerstell was born in Hammond, Ind., and moved to Abilene from Bowler, Wisc. He worked as an oil rigger for Hack Drilling Co. Inc. He married Lisa Velez in 1982 in Mosinee, Wisc., and was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sons, Francisco Kerstell and Frederick Kerstell, both of Abilene; two daughters, Amanda Kerstell and Deidre Kerstell, both of Abilene; his parents, Chuck and Anita Kerstell of Arizona; two brothers, Dwayne Kerstell of Wisconsin and Chuck Kerstell Jr. of Arizona; and three sisters, Beatrice Kozlowski, Brenda Meis and Annette Foch, all of Wisconsin.

Shirley June Miller
WHITESBORO -- Shirley June Miller, 62, relative of three Big Country residents, died Monday in a Sherman hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Whitesboro First Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Funderburg officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, directed by Huff Funeral Home.
Mrs. Miller was born in Rotan and worked as the Precinct 6 justice of the peace in Grayson County. She was a member of the Justice of Peace and Municipal Judges associations, and First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred Miller of Whitesboro; one son, Wendell Bockman of Bonham; four stepsons, Ronald Miller of Fort Campbell, Ky., Larry Miller of Atlanta, Alfred Miller Jr. of Abilene and Gary Miller of Hobbs, N.M.; one daughter, Shirley Ann Speck of Odessa; her mother, Faye Woolsey of Roby; three brothers, James Huckaby of San Marcos, Jerry Huckaby of Artesia, N.M., and Rickey Huckaby of Levelland; two sisters, Barbara Garner of Abilene and Sandra Cobb of Plains; and 13 grandchildren.

Luther Martin Rogers
CLYDE -- Luther Martin Rogers, 95, formerly of Cisco, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel in Cisco with Jim Hall officiating. Burial will be in Moran Cemetery.
Mr. Rogers formerly lived in Moran and married Murl Hagemann in 1986 in Cisco. He was a farmer and rancher and was a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, of Clyde; one sister, Ruth Jones of Ukiah, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Alva Stanley
BROWNWOOD -- Alva M. Stanley, 88, lifelong local resident, died Tuesday at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Grosvenor.
Mrs. Stanley was born in Bell County and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Brownwood and was the widow of Carl Russell Stanley Sr., whom she married in 1929 in Temple.
Survivors include five daughters, Alva Neoma Ingram and Claudine E. Wilcoxen, both of Cisco, Alma LaNell Alberthal of Fredericksburg, Leta Marie Petzold of Brownwood and Joan Rose Tubbs of Odessa; one brother, Charles Ray Rose of New Braunfels; one sister, Maurine Lanmon of Evant; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Katherine Ann 'Kay' Maynard
LORAINE -- Katherine Ann "Kay" Maynard, 91, died Monday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Loraine Cemetery with the Rev. Glenda Johnson officiating, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home of Colorado City.
Mrs. Maynard was born in Chicago and was a homemaker. She moved to Loraine in 1942. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was the widow of Clarence Leslie Maynard, whom she married in 1932 in Fort Worth.
Survivors include one stepson.

Florencia Barrera
ROTAN -- Florencia Barrera, 89, died Monday in Fort Worth.
Mass will be said at 10 a.m. today in St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Johnrose Hayden officiating. Burial will be in Hobbs Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Barrera was born in Mexico and was a homemaker. She moved to Fisher County in 1947. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was the widow of Simon R. Barrera, whom she married in 1938 in Rotan.
Survivors include three daughters, Hortensia Barrera of Rotan, Maria Herlina Barrera of Fort Worth and Oralia Massey of Kennedale; one son, Raul Barrera of Fort Worth; four sisters, Josephina Soliz and Antonia Barrera, both of Rotan, Basilia Rodriguez of Grand Prairie and Luisa Maldonado of Fort Worth; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth Welsh Watkins
Ruth Welsh Watkins, 75, died Wednesday at her home.
A memorial Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Family Catholic Church with Msgr. Fred Nawarskas officiating, directed by Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Mrs. Watkins was born in West Hope, N.D., and grew up in Galesburg, Ill. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1940. She married William J. Watkins in 1948 and moved to Abilene in 1971 from Midland. She was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for 22 years and also was a board member and volunteer of St. Vincent De Paul Society. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Watkins and Pat Watkins, both of Abilene; five daughters, Susan Watkins and Denise Dennis, both of Abilene, Maureen Thornhill of Lewisville, Aimee Holleman of The Woodlands and Lisa Miller of Englewood, Colo.; and 19 grandchildren.

Annie Lee Harris Paul
Annie Lee Harris Paul, 86, died Monday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. T.L. Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, directed by Curtis-Starks Funeral Home, 542 E.N. 7th.
Mrs. Paul was born in Brenham, where she attended school, and moved to Taylor County more than 50 years ago. She worked as a licensed vocational nurse at Abilene State School and Hendrick Medical Center. She later was employed by Valley Faucet. She was a member of the Grand Court Order of Calanthe for many years and the Senior Missionary Society at St. John Baptist Church.
Survivors include many cousins.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Ruby Stinson
SNYDER -- Ruby Joyce Stinson, 93, owner and operator of Stinson Drug from 1965 until the business was closed in 1992, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Nan Swanson officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Gardens, directed by Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Stinson was born in Scurry County. She was a member of the Texas State Pharmaceutical Women's Auxiliary, Altrurian Daughters, and the women's group at First Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of James Wilmeth Wade, whom she married in Snyder; and Lee Thomas Stinson, whom she married in 1944 in Big Spring.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jimm Floyd of Snyder; four sisters, Cleora Gilmore of Houston, Faye Polk of San Francisco, Mary McPherson of Abilene and Milton Vicary of Hermleigh; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church or a favorite charity.
