Cecil Meaders Brown
MERKEL -- Cecil Meaders Brown, 93, died Tuesday in Abilene.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Kennedy and Everett Beaver officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Brown was born in Dahlonega, Ga., and graduated from Abilene High School in 1923. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1929 and master's degree in 1956, both from McMurry College. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and taught high school and coached in Eldorado, Abilene, Eastland, Coleman, Lefors, Noodle, Anson, and back in Abilene until retiring in 1969. He also was a football official for 25 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was the widower of Grace Lee Cranston Brown, whom he married in 1933 in Abilene.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Meaders Ezzell of San Juan, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Stephanie Gaston
BUFFALO GAP -- Stephanie M. Gaston, 48, died Thursday in an Abilene care facility.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Buffalo Gap First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Jones officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Gap Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home of Tuscola.
Mrs. Gaston was born in St. Louis, where she graduated from high school, and married David Gaston in 1982 in San Antonio. She formerly worked as an office supervisor for a veterinary clinic in San Antonio. She lived in St. Louis and San Antonio before moving to Buffalo Gap in 1995 and was a Catholic.
Survivors include her husband, of Buffalo Gap; twin children, James Gaston and Jennifer Gaston, both of Buffalo Gap; her parents, William and Biulah Sexton of San Antonio; two sisters, Barbara Pruitt of St. Charles, Mo., and Michelle Kahley of Tacoma, Wash.; and one brother, William "Billy" Sexton of San Antonio.

Chester Abbott
HASKELL -- Chester K. Abbott, 71, employed by Amoco Pipeline for 37-1/2 years until retiring in 1984, died Wednesday in a local hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Haskell First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Turner and Dr. Troy Culpepper officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Abbott was born in Ada, Okla., and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Mary Morris in 1947 and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8231 in Snyder and First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Haskell; two daughters, Theresa Vest and Darlene Stokes, both of Snyder; two sisters, Edna Warner and Martha Knight, both of Ada, Okla.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Alfred Gene Loper
RANGER -- Alfred Gene Loper, 66, formerly of Eastland County, died Tuesday in Big Spring.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Evergreen Cemetery with Chaplain Dean Thomas officiating, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.
Mr. Loper was born in Eastland County and graduated from Morton Valley High School. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received two bronze stars and one silver star. He worked in construction and the oil field for many years and also was a farmer. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include three brothers, M.R. Loper of Kermit, A.C. "Buddy" Loper of Odessa and Wayne E. Loper of Midland; six sisters, Wynema Rogers of Grand Prairie, Alene Bailey of Lubbock, Imogene Harper of Austin, Gay Nell Tull of Wichita Falls, Dawn Rice of Las Cruces, N.M., and Yvette Overstreet of Roswell, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.

Odessa Riley
HASKELL -- Odessa Riley, 76, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Haskell Church of Christ with Dale Huff officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Riley was born in Prairie Hill and was a homemaker. She moved to Haskell in 1962. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was the widow of Thomas Riley, whom she married in 1942 in Haskell.
Survivors include six sons, William Thomas Riley and Odest Riley, both of Los Angeles, Edward Lee Riley of Oakley, Calif., and Roy Lee Riley, Charleston Heston Riley and Daniel Mick Riley, all of Haskell; one daughter, Iris Regina Riley of Haskell; two brothers, J.T. Thomas of Haskell and Lloyd Thomas of Pasadena, Calif.; one sister, Billie Jones of Los Angeles; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Marvin Nichols
BROWNWOOD -- Marvin C. Nichols, 88, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Placid Cemetery in McCulloch County, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mr. Nichols was born in Placid and married Sarah Royall in 1989 in Brownwood. He was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; one stepson, Michael D. Lamb of Brownwood; one daughter, April L. Gray of St. James, Mo.; one brother, Morris Nichols of Benbrook; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Esta Speer Jennings
HURST -- Esta Speer Jennings, 86, former Big Country school teacher and formerly of Hurst, died Thursday in Irving.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery in Colleyville, directed by Lucas Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jennings was born in Eastland County and taught school for more than 40 years in Texas until retiring. Her teaching career included Poe Chapel, Ovalo, Clyde, Iona, Palo Pinto, Tom Bean, Sherman and Hurst. She was a member of Hurst Baptist Church and was the widow of Robert Hugh Jennings.
Survivors include four sons, Robert Lee Jennings of Denver, William Jerry Jennings and Jack Hugh Jennings, both of Dallas, and Jon Speer Jennings of Irving; and eight grandchildren.

Kenneth Eugene Fowler
Kenneth Eugene Fowler, 64, died Wednesday in an Albuquerque, N.M., hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Masonic Cemetery with the Rev. Louis Johnson officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Fowler was born in Vernon and moved to Abilene in 1952. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and worked as a truck driver for Bilbo Freight Lines and Coca Cola. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2012 and attended Elm Valley Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Reta Fowler of Abilene; one son, Ronnie Fowler of Abilene; three stepdaughters, Kim Speight and Cynthia Daniels, both of Abilene, and Melody Clinch of Conroe; one brother, Steve Fowler of Abilene; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

M. Oscar Johnson
M. Oscar Johnson, 79, died Friday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with the Rev. Wayne Oglesby officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Johnson was born in Vernon and married M. Juanita Brown in 1939. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and moved to Abilene in 1959 from Vernon. He worked as a salesman for Buckeye Supply Co., an oilfield and pipe supply firm, for 10 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two daughters, Sharon Kay Hood of Red Oak and Dianne Perkins of Arlington; two brothers, Melvin Johnson and Vern Johnson, both of Burleson; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
