Roy Montgomery
COLEMAN - Roy B. Montgomery, 70, of Giddings died Saturday at a La Grange hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Coleman City Cemetery, directed by Walker Funeral Home.
Mr. Montgomery was born in Carlsbad, N.M., and lived in the Odessa area most of his life before moving to Giddings 10 years ago. He worked in the oil fields and was a Methodist.
Survivors include one daughter, Belinda Pampell of Giddings; three sons, Mike Montgomery of Gouldbusk, Sam Montgomery of Giddings and Roy Montgomery Jr. of San Antonio; three sisters, Betty Vogel of Albuquerque, N.M., Theda Smith of Phoenix, Ariz., and Patsy Anderson of Houston; and 14 grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday.

William Jean Roberts
SWEETWATER - William Jean Roberts, 94, died Friday in a local hospital.
Services were Sunday at Broadway Baptist Church with the Rev. Lyndel Hix officiating. Burial was in Sweetwater Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Roberts was born in Tom Green County and married Elizabeth Herridge in 1936 in Ballinger. He moved to Sweetwater in 1940 and was a retired government trapper. He also was a cowboy, rancher, truck driver and rodeo worker. He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Sweetwater; three daughters, Betty Jean Bowman of Hilltop Lake, Elaine Pittman of Lubbock and Patricia Ann Wann of Winnsboro; two sons, Ross E. Roberts of Grand Prairie and James L. Roberts of Sweetwater; 13 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Jewel Nelson
BROWNWOOD - Jewel Nelson, 90, died Saturday at a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Lubbock City Cemetery with Farron Young officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mrs. Nelson was born in Parker County and moved to Lynn County in 1912. She lived in New Home and was county commissioner for Lynn County in 1977. She was a homemaker. She married Lucian Keller "Heavy" Nelson in 1927; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Wayne Nelson of San Saba County; one sister, Mary McCurdy of Santa Maria, Calif.; two brothers, Landon Smith and Boyd Smith, both of Lubbock; two granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

William Wallace Moorhouse Sr.
MUNDAY - William Wallace Moorhouse Sr., 84, died Saturday at a Haskell hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Hall officiating. Burial will be in Benjamin Cemetery in Benjamin, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Moorhouse was born in Benjamin and lived in Throckmorton and Seymour before moving to Munday in 1951. He was an insurance and real estate agent for 58 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He married Kathryn Condron in 1937 in Vera.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Bill Moorhouse of Round Rock; one daughter, Ann Moorhouse Gibbs of Tuckers-Town, Bermuda; one sister, Francis Amelia Brewer of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Leota Griffin
Leota L. Griffin, 74, of Tye died Monday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tye Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Tye Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy. 277 South.
Mrs. Griffin was born in Plainview and graduated from Paint Creek schools. She worked for Abilene State School for 17-1/2 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Tye Baptist Church. She married Frank Middleton in 1978 in Jones County; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include four daughters, Marilla A. Barley of Tye, Jennifer J. Haugen of Richland, Wash., Gretta K. Kriner of York, S.C., and Clemma D. Turner of Pasco, Wash.; her mother, Janie W. Packwood of Abilene; one brother, Edward B. Packwood of Old town, Idaho; one sister, Patsy L. Presnell of Spartanburg, S.C.; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Esther Ray Smith
BLACKWELL - Esther Ray Smith, 91, died Monday in Blackwell.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Blackwell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Adair officiating. Burial will be in Blackwell Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
Mrs. Smith was born in Dallas and moved to Blackwell in 1912. She was a homemaker and a member of Blackwell United Methodist Church. She married Cecil Smith in 1926 in Blackwell; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Cecil Lewis Smith of Blackwell and Dixie Smith of Fort Collins, Colo.; one sister, Lillie Schwedler of Carrollton; two brothers, George Sweet of Jayton and Edwin Sweet of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Minnie Lou Nix
EASTLAND - Minnie Lou Nix, 76, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Eastland City Cemetery.
Mrs. Nix was born in Lubbock County and grew up in Slaton, moving to Big Spring after marriage. She graduated from Howard College as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and worked at several hospitals in Big Spring. She moved to Eastland in 1966 and worked for Eastland Memorial Hospital, Northview Development Center and Eastland Manor Nursing Home, retiring in 1992. She was a member of Daugherty Street Church of Christ. She married Henry Stormes in 1936 in Slaton; he preceded her in death. She married Truman Nix in 1957 in Big Spring; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include four daughters, Edith Thompson of Austin, Rosa Caldwell of San Angelo and Mary Fokken and Ann Vaughan, both of Houston; two sons, Bill Stormes of Ranger and Gene Stormes of Odessa; 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Grace Posey
KNOX CITY - Grace Posey, 84, of Arlington died Sunday in Arlington.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Knox County Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Posey was born in Spencerville, Okla., and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Thomas Posey in 1936; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Grace Watson of Arlington; one brother, Carl Abston of Lubbock; one sister, Callie Covington of Duncan, Okla.; two granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.

Larry Don Rider
COLEMAN - Larry Don Rider, 52, of San Antonio and formerly of Coleman, died Sunday in San Antonio.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Stevens Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Northway officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery.
Mr. Rider was born in Coleman, where he grew up and attended school. He was a Navy veteran and lived in Houston, Del Rio and Coleman before moving to San Antonio 19 years ago. He was employed by Painters Supply in San Antonio and was a Baptist. He married Karen Conner in Leon Valley in 1990.
Survivors include his wife, of San Antonio; one daughter, LuRena Ogden of Floresville; one son, Jay Rider of San Antonio; his mother, Hazel Rider of Coleman; one brother, J. Rex Rider of Coleman; four grandchildren, one niece, one nephew and many other relatives.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
