Raymond Smith
COLEMAN -- Raymond Smith, 84, lifelong Coleman County resident, died Wednesday in a local care center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Coleman Cemetery pavilion with the Rev. Gary Boyd officiating, directed by Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith was born in Burkett, where he graduated from high school, and worked as an oilfield driller. He also owned and operated S&H Well Servicing. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was the widower of Valeta Helberg Smith, whom he married in 1936 in Brownwood.
Survivors include two daughters, Betsy Smith of Pensacola, Fla., and Molly Jones of Waco; three sisters, Sylvia Watson of Abilene, Betty McKinney of Fort Worth and Laverne Stark of Coleman; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Opal Belle Loewen
HASKELL -- Opal Belle Loewen, 74, died Thursday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Willow Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Lusk officiating, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Loewen was born in Hale Center and moved to Haskell in 1970. She was a homemaker. She worked in home health care until becoming ill. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Marlin Loewen, whom she married in 1978.
Survivors include three sisters, Ardith Reynolds, Bessie Muller and Anna Marshall.

Daniel Oon Keong Mar
FORT WORTH -- Daniel Oon Keong Mar, 69, father of two Big Country residents, died Monday in Fort Worth.
No services are planned and burial will be in Montreal, Canada. Arrangements were made by Greenwood Funeral Home.
Mr. Mar was born in China and married Margaret Jewell Henry Rigdon. He worked as a chef.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel Mar of Clyde and Danny Wong of Montreal, Canada; one daughter, Polly Speaker of Big Spring; three stepchildren, Glen Overton, Donald Overton and Vickie Fontana; and six grandchildren.

Mary Grindstaff
KNOX CITY -- Mary E. Grindstaff, 95, died Thursday in a local hospital after a long illness.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Willow Cemetery in Haskell with the Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating, directed by Smith Funeral Home.
Ms. Grindstaff was born in Palo Pinto County and attended business college in Dallas. She worked as a secretary in Dallas and moved to Knox City in the early 1970s from Bowie. She was a farmer and returned to Knox City in 1988. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and Business Woman's Club, both in Dallas, and First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Ava Merritt of Lamar, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to Knox City Pink Ladies Auxiliary.

Christina Atwood
Christina C. Atwood, 53, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Mass will be said at 10 a.m. today in Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Fred Nawarskas officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery near Cross Plains, directed by North's Funeral Home, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road.
Mrs. Atwood was born in Rhode Island, where she grew up. She married Leonard "Gene" Atwood in 1968 in Rhode Island and was a homemaker. She moved to Abilene in 1970 and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Abilene; four daughters, Suzanne Perez of Stephenville, Jodie Helfer of Carrollton, and Christina D. Atwood and Johnnie Atwood, both of Abilene; one brother, Joseph Teixeira of Bristol, R.I.; two sisters, Mary Lou Russo of Holliston, Mass., and Ann Wajda of Barrington, R.I.; and four grandchildren.

Rose Bennett Robinson
Rose Bennett Robinson, 90, died Monday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Mount Moriah Baptist Church with the Rev. L.W. Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, directed by Curtis-Starks Funeral Home, 542 E.N. 7th.
Mrs. Robinson was born in Milam County and moved to Taylor County in 1939. She married Walter Robinson in 1942 in Taylor County. She worked for Dr. Sol Estes and family for 18 years until retiring and was a member of the usher board for 40 years at Mount Moriah Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Vernon Robinson of Englewood, Calif.; two nieces; one nephew, Willie Lockett of Abilene; and many other relatives.

Edgar Lee Patterson
Edgar Lee Patterson, 69, bus driver for 17 years for City Link until retiring, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with the Rev. T.C. Melton officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Patterson was born in Stonewall County and grew up in Hamlin. He married Geraldene Nash in 1949 in Rotan. He moved to Abilene in 1951 from Rotan and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He worked in the oil field for many years. He also was a service station owner and operator. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2012 and was a member of Elmcrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sisters, Juanita P. Perry of Galena Park and Margaret Isbel of La Porte; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.

Lottie Adell Simpson
JACKSBORO -- Lottie Adell Simpson, 97, of Abilene and formerly of Jacksboro, died Thursday in Abilene.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Coker Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Wylie officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. in Medlan Cemetery in Graham.
Mrs. Simpson was born in Eliasville and was a retired telephone operator. She was the widow of James Willis Simpson.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Rufus Burwell Edmundson
DENTON -- Rufus Burwell Edmundson, 86, formerly of Abilene, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Bell Avenue Church with the Rev. Buddy Owens officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Crossroads, directed by Mulkey-Mason/Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home.
Mr. Edmundson was born in Rice, Texas, and married Mary Nancy Swafford in 1936 in Corsicana. He worked as an assistant substation engineer for West Texas Utilities for 40 years and was a member of Bell Avenue Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Denton; one son, Gerald Ernest Edmundson of Denton; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Melvin Means
THROCKMORTON -- Melvin Means, 76, of Bedford and formerly of Throckmorton, died Wednesday in a Bedford hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Merriman-Archer Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bill Felts and Mike Fortenberry officiating. Burial will be in Throckmorton Cemetery.
Mr. Means was born in Throckmorton and married Barbara Ann Rackley in 1962 in Louisiana. He was a retired salesman. He lived in Lubbock, Abilene, Ruidoso, N.M., and Paris, Texas before moving to Bedford in 1998. He was a past president of Ruidoso Downs Muleskinners Association and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, of Bedford; two daughters, Lynda Nelson of Abilene and Jo Ann Robinson of Los Alamos, N.M.; one son, James Means of Abilene; three stepsons, Terry Fitzgerald of Paris, Texas, Billy Fitzgerald of Bedford and Jackie Fitzgerald of Leesburg, Ga.; two brothers, Clyde Means of Breckenridge and J.R. Means of Temple; one sister, Clara Belle Hudson of Graham; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Marvelene Williams
STEPHENVILLE -- Marvelene Williams, 71, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Lacy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Baggett officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was born in Rotan and married OB Williams in 1946 in Abilene. She was a homemaker and lived in Stephenville for 48 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Home Demonstration Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, American Ex-Prisoners of War Auxiliary and First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Stephenville; one son, James Terry Williams of Big Lake; one daughter, Charlotte Ann Laughlin of Ozona; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be sent to Stephenville First United Methodist Church.
