Boyd Duncan

COLEMAN - Boyd Duncan, 75, died Tuesday in a Temple hospital.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Coleman First Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Boyd and Roger Hammonds officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery, directed by Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Duncan was born in Valera and attended school at Loss Creek, Buffalo, Junction and Coleman. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and married Jane Smith in 1948 in Coleman. He worked in law enforcement for many years, including several years as Coleman police chief. He was a charter member of Double C Riding Club and also was a member of Exchange Club and First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Coleman; two daughters, Mary Terry and Karen Haynie, both of Coleman; two sisters, Mary Lee Kelley of Dallas and Gladys Jones of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Genova Lee Aishman

RANGER - Genova Lee Aishman, 84, died Wednesday at her home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Ranger First Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathan Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.

Mrs. Aishman was born in Paducah and graduated from Ranger High School in 1931 and Ranger Junior College. She and her husband owned and operated grocery stores in Ranger, Comanche and Andrews before retiring from Quality Food Mart in Ranger in 1975. The couple owned and operated a campground in Ranger until 1979. She was active in the Ruth Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church and was the widow of Weaver Aishman, whom she married in 1934.

Survivors include one son, Tom Aishman of Ranger; one daughter, Kay Clements of Wilmington, N.C.; one brother, R.V. Robinson of Ranger; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Robert 'Bob' Shields

SANTA ANNA - Robert "Bob" Shields, 71, of Odessa and formerly of Santa Anna, died Wednesday in a Brownwood hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman with Tommy Briscoe officiating. Burial will be in Santa Anna Cemetery.

Mr. Shields was born in Whon and attended school in Santa Anna. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He lived in Santa Anna for several years before moving to Odessa, where he was a longtime resident. He was a retired drilling consultant and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4372 in Odessa. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Shields of Odessa; one son, Bobby Lynn Shields of Austin; one daughter, Susie Hoagland of Austin; his mother, Maud Shields of Santa Anna; two brothers, Myrl Shields of Brownwood and Leo Shields of Santa Anna; four sisters, Edith Gilbert of San Angelo, Leona Frazee of Oklahoma, Evelyn Wright of Fort Worth and Lonell Thate of Santa Anna; and five grandchildren.

Mildred Hymer

HAMLIN - Mildred Hymer, 82, named Woman of the Year in 1985 by the Hamlin Chamber of Commerce, died Tuesday in a Breckenridge nursing home.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Foster-Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tracy Watson officiating. Burial will be in Hamlin East Cemetery.

Ms. Hymer was born in Anson, where she graduated from high school, and moved to Hamlin in 1950. She owned Mildred's Beauty Shop for many years. She moved to Breckenridge in 1993 and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Cowan of El Paso and Jane Asher of Breckenridge; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

V. Emory Smith

COMANCHE - V. Emory Smith, 97, died Tuesday in a local nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Dr. Van Christian and Dean Summers officiating, directed by Hall & Sons Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith was born in Carthage and taught school in Jeff Davis County and El Paso until retiring. He also worked at the McDonald Observatory and moved to Comanche in 1989 from Atlanta. He was a Methodist and was the widower of Mitta Mayes Smith, whom he married in 1937 in Dallas.

Survivors include one sister, Doris Vernon of Mustang, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to Methodist Children's Home in Waco.

Zena Sue Newkirk

CLYDE - Zena Sue Newkirk, 77, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Bailey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Clyde Cemetery.

Mrs. Newkirk was born in Pittsburgh, Texas, and was a homemaker. She moved to Clyde in 1973 from Abilene and was the widow of James Troy Newkirk, whom she married in 1953 in Plainview.

Survivors include two daughters, Hazel Mae Jacobs of Burleson and Barbara Jeanette Ruddell of Clyde; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

H.F. 'Hank' Shifflett

SWEETWATER - H.F. "Hank" Shifflett, 20, of Abilene and formerly of Sweetwater, died Thursday in an Abilene nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sweetwater Cemetery with the Rev. Henry Floyd Shifflett Sr. officiating, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.

Mr. Shifflett was born in Sweetwater and moved to Abilene in 1997 from Fayetteville, Ark. He was a Pentecostal.

Survivors include his parents, Mary Ann Shifflett of Clyde and H.F. "Beau" Shifflett of Fayetteville, Ark.; two brothers, Matthew Shifflett and Travis Shifflett, both of Clyde; one sister, Natasha Shifflett of Clyde; his maternal grandmother, Christine Easter of Farmington, Ark.; and his paternal grandparents, Dorothy and the Rev. H. Floyd Smith Sr. of Sweetwater.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday in the funeral home.

Ruth Hazelle McMillon

LAWN - Ruth Hazelle McMillon, 82, died Wednesday in an Abilene care facility.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Tuscola First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jack Stevens and James Martin officiating. Burial will be in Tuscola Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home of Tuscola.

Mrs. McMillon was born in Winfield and graduated from Lawn High School. She worked as a clerk and officer-in-charge at the Lawn and Tuscola post offices for a total of 20 years until retiring in 1978. She lived in Lawn for many years before moving to Abilene in 1993. She was a member of Chapter 31, Order of the Eastern Star; and Tuscola First United Methodist Church and was the widow of Asa C. McMillon, whom she married in 1931 in Winters.

Survivors include one daughter, Lady McGee of Lawn; three grandchildren, including Danny Blankenship of Abilene; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Ezell Birmingham

COLORADO CITY - Ezell Birmingham, 79, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Ulis Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell County Cemetery, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.

Mr. Birmingham was born in Idabell, Okla., and was a chef with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to Colorado City in 1945 and worked as a chef after the war. He married Doris Green in 1993 in Abilene and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, of Colorado City; six daughters, Bennie Tryon of Arlington, Rose Marie Tryon of Aspermont, Glenda Falls and Doris Coleman, both of Fort Worth, Monica Pruitt of Snyder and Cheryl Birmingham of Colorado City; five sons, John Edward Green, David Birmingham and Derrick Birmingham, all of Colorado City, Ezell Birmingham Jr. of Arlington and Dewayne Birmingham of Snyder; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
