Jess Vandiver
CHILDRESS -- Jess W. Vandiver, 89, father of an Abilene resident, died Saturday in Childress.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Childress First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery, directed by Johnson Funeral Home.
Mr. Vandiver was born in Comanche County and moved to Childress County in 1917. He married Lenna Johnson in 1938 in Childress and worked as a maintenance foreman for Gate City Electric until retiring in 1973. He was a charter member of Slurppers Coffee Club and also was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Childress; one son, Wendell Vandiver of Childress; one daughter, Byrda Woodard of Abilene; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Rex Ray Williams
BROWNWOOD -- Rex Ray Williams, 89, died Friday in a local hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early with the Rev. Kenneth Green officiating. Burial will be in Blanket Cemetery.
Mr. Williams was born in Bangs and attended school at Sand Creek. He married Vada Hall in 1933 in Brownwood and farmed in Blanket for 20 years. He helped construct Camp Bowie and was a fireman at the camp's training facility. He worked as a carpenter for Waldroup Construction for many years and was the first carpenter hired for the construction of Brownwood Community Hospital. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; one son, Joe "J.C." Williams of Dayton; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Marjorie Cleo Chandler
SNYDER -- Marjorie Cleo Chandler, 76, died Friday at her son's home in Snyder after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Snyder First Baptist Church Chapel with Charlie Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Snyder Cemetery, directed by Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Chandler was born in Hastings, Okla., and lived in Snyder for many years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of North College Avenue Baptist Church and was the widow of D.D. "Hunk" Chandler, whom she married in 1938 in Poolville.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Campbell of Snyder; two sons, Doyle Chandler of Snyder and James Chandler of Jourdanton; three sisters, Stella Leatherwood of Jacksboro, Oleta Lingle of Springtown and Mildred Thomas of Azle; four brothers, Carley Plowman of Decatur, Edgar Plowman of Azle, Joe Plowman of Arlington and Raymond Plowman of Weatherwood; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ervin Hohertz
BROWNWOOD -- Ervin B. Hohertz, 76, died Friday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. today in Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Phillip Graf officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery east of Priddy, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mr. Hohertz was born in Priddy and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Viola J. Meyer in 1944 in Priddy and moved to Brownwood that year. He was a retired repairman of Pouncy's Refrigeration and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; one sister, Meta Painter; and four nephews and one niece.

Betty Lou Pearson
STAMFORD -- Betty Lou Pearson, 66, died Saturday in a Hamlin hospital after a sudden illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl with the Revs. Stan Leaf and Kent Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, directed by Tankersley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pearson was born in Decatur, Ill., and married Emil Pearson in 1951 in Ericksdahl. She was a homemaker and was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl.
Survivors include her husband, of Stamford; two sons, Mark Pearson of Avoca and Keith Pearson of Stamford; one daughter, Birgitta Neal of Avoca; three brothers, Tom Kalinski of Missouri, Robert Kalinski of Ben Wheeler and Joe Kalinski of California; one half-brother, Leroy Plunkett; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Clinton Virgil Langford
HASKELL -- Clinton Virgil Langford, 94, died Friday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Eastside Baptist Church with the Rev. David Page and Travis Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Langford was born in Stephenville and was a farmer and rancher for many years. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and was the widower of Ruby Baxter Langford, whom he married in 1927.
Survivors include one daughter, Margie Langford Cardwell of Haskell; four sons, R.C. Langford of Rule, Clinton Virgil Langford Jr. of Stamford, and Harley Langford and Doyle Langford, both of Haskell; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 604 Ave. D, Apt. A.

Winnie Viola Sanders Reed
STAMFORD -- Winnie Reed, 87, of Lubbock and formerly of Stamford, died Friday in a Lubbock nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Orient Street Church of Christ with Cliff Cobb officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery, directed by Tankersley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Reed was born in Albany and was a homemaker. She worked as a cook in the Stamford school district. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was the widow of John Haywood Reed, whom she married in 1931 in Anson.
Survivors include two sons, Carl Reed of Lubbock and Grady Reed of Fullerton, Calif.; one daughter, Bonnie Cotton of Huntington Beach, Calif.; one brother, Elroy Sanders of San Angelo; and four grandchildren.

Alice Louise Carter Sims
Alice Louise Carter Sims, 82, died Sunday.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Kevin Kennedy officiating, assisted by the Rev. Rickie Rister. Burial will be in Midway Cemetery.
Mrs. Sims was born on the Morrison ranch in Jones County and attended school at Stith. She lived in the area all her life and was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She married William Erven Sims in 1951 in Abilene.
Survivors include her husband, of Abilene; and three sisters, Marie Chastain, Mary Clark and Christine Martin, all of Abilene.

Charles Cordon
Charles R. Cordon, 67, died Saturday at a local medical facility.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory. Burial will be in Dudley Cemetery.
Mr. Cordon was born in Alicia, Ark., and was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force as a mechanic. He was a special therapy trainer at Abilene State School for 12 years and a salesman for Abilene Mobile Homes for six years. He had lived in the Dudley area for 24 years, moving there from Abilene. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, A.A.R.P. and Retired Enlisted Service. He married Jean Mathis in 1970 in Hollis, Okla.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one stepson, Jerry Wayne Knapp of Arlington; one brother, E.J. Cordon of Little Rock, Ark.; one sister, Shirley Everhart of Wellington, Kan.; a nephew and a niece.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.
